heartbreaker

so...my little 8-year-old cousin, jamie, called me this afternoon to chat. she actually called me a few sundays ago on her NEW cell phone to tell me that she had gotten it. i missed her initial call, and i must say my heart melted when i heard her voice mail. she actually took the time to call me as soon as she got her new cell phone! i was very honored!

today's conversation was short and sweet. jamie was waiting on her best friend to come over to play before evening worship. i asked her a few questions about her summer, and then her friend arrived, so our conversation had to end. i still get a smile on my face when i think about the fact the she called me of all people! i love my jamie :)

family is so precious. never take them for granted! and speaking of family, please welcome my oldest brother, glenn, to pleonast!

PLEASE PRAY!!!

every so often, something happens that forces you to step back and re-examine your "problems" and your "worries"...and you realize that you have no right to even use the words "problems" and "worries". i think you will understand exactly what i mean when you read this...

PLEASE PRAY!!!

in HIM,
isaac grantham holman

"who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? as it is written: 'for your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.' no, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. for i am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
~ romans 8:35-39

AMEN

Hey Isaac. An e-mail has been forwarded to me that you sent out to the brethren at Brentwood about Shea Adair's situation. I appreciate you passing on the news.

However, I don't know if you have heard the latest. Please go to my blog and scroll down to the post before the present one.

Sadly, we found out Shea's story is a complete hoax. Go to my blog for more details.

Again, thank you for your prayers and vigilance. As someone in the comments said, prayer is never wasted.

Hey Isaac, wondering if you might do me a favor.

Some of the folks from Franklin have been getting together to play Ultimate Frisbee on a weekly basis. We had been doing so on Sunday nights following our assembly, but due to shortening days have moved it to Saturday mornings at 9:00 AM. We meet at Pinkerton Park on Hwy 96 in Franklin. We would like to get some more people involved and wondering if some of the folks at Brentwood might like to join us.

I know it is probably a bit late to get anyone there tomorrow (but maybe not), I have meant to get on here all week and just kept forgetting.

Would you pass on the word. There is no real age limit and we don't care if it is guys or girls. However, I will say that it does involve a lot of running and whoever needs to be old enough to throw and catch a frisbee pretty well.

Please let me know if you got this message.

so...

yesterday, i found myself wishing that i could work on a project with one of my co-workers. she and i have worked together before, and i learned so much from her. my confidence and my abilities grew TREMENDOUSLY during our project. i was slated to be her "right hand man"...

but then, we hired a new designer to work with the first designer because of her experience in a certain market segment. and while i was a bit disappointed, i couldn't be too upset because i was slated to run several of my own projects. i wouldn't be able to run my own projects AND help on the other projects...

so back to yesterday...i was standing at first co-worker's desk and just watching her work and really wishing that i were still going to be working with her...

and then today, said co-worker comes up to me and asks me when my projects will be finished...she wants me to help her with a new project next spring!

this may not seem like a big deal to you, but this is the second time that i have really longed to work with her...and the first time i had a desire to work with her, the same thing happened. she just walked up to me and told me that i was going to be working with her...

my bosses told me they never would have put this designer and myself together. we have very different personalities, backgrounds, beliefs, etc...but we work really well together. one of my bosses said, "who knows, God may have put you two together so you can be an example to her"...yeah, that's how our office rolls!

i know God has a plan, and i'm so excited to see it unfold!

personal leadership

this past sunday night at brentwood, jack dugger, jr. presented a lesson on personal leadership. although there were around 300 people present, i felt as though jack were preaching exclusively to me. following are the main points of the lesson:

~ personal leadership is the desire of an individual to take charge of his/her own life

~ personal leadership has no pre-requisites; you can be any race, any color, any sex, any socio-economic background, etc. and be a personal leader

~ personal leadership takes work

~ personal leadership involves four components

1. personal leaders realize that they are responsible for themselves and for their actions - romans 14:7-12; 2 corinthians 5:10; 1 timothy 3:1-3

2. personal leaders have a plan/goal for their earthly life, family, and most importantly, eternal life - ephesians 4:11-15; nehemiah 2:11-18

3. personal leaders have a commitment, a purpose - acts 20:22-24; hebrews 12:1,2

4. personal leaders make good choices - nehemiah 4:1-17

you know why i love being a Christian so much? because when (not if) i mess up, i can start over. i can ask for forgiveness and repent of those sins. i can decide right now to become a better personal leader. and i can ask God for His help to be the best personal leader i can be. and He will help me!

right now, my character, my very essence is being tested. i have been pushed out of my comfort zone many times. and yet, i have struggled and have been scared to death...or at least it felt that way. sometimes i have succeeded, and many times, i have failed.

but one thing i have learned over the past year...the only way to truly fail is to quit. and i am not a quitter. i may struggle and fall, but i will not stay down. i heard a quote the other day from dr. john maxwell. he was saying that one of his friends is never down. and john asked him how that could be. his friend replied, "i am either up, or i am getting up"...WOW!

thanking HIM for the lessons learned in the past,
praising HIM for the newness of the present,
looking to HIM for the opportunities to grow in the future,
isaac grantham holman
