i knew a man

i once knew a man who knew no fear,

walked tall and strong even when danger was near.

fought for the ones he loved so dear,

and for the resting place above...

known far and wide for the deeds he had done.

shown high on a pedestal,

but no more than a mere man.

aged with the years of wisdom that only few can obtain....

hands roughened from the years of hard labor,

but still soft enough to care.

i knew a man once who is now gone,

grieved by those left behind.

left on a journey we all one day would like to be on,

flying up high in the sky.

i walk down a path that only i can go

with a saint on my right and a sinner on my left,

tearing me apart as i carry on...fighting for the way that

i should go.

i know not where i'm going but only where i've been,

the footprints i leave behind reveal my past...but that is all

they are...footprints in the sand.

whats done is done and can't be changed, only i can control

the outcome for which i desire to take....

the path that which unfolds before me.
