The whole half-elven bitFor those who don't know
The story goes WAY back to where there were Maiar (Gandalf is one of them) living in the earth. One named Melian married an elven king, Thingol. They had a daughter named Luthien. Aragorn is singing about her when he and the hobbits are making for Weathertop. It's a long (and beautiful) story, but Luthien winds up marrying Beren...a man. They have a child named Dior. The offspring were considered half-elven and had the gift to choose their fate.
Dior(half-elven)====Nimloth
|
Elwing====Eärendil
|
Elros---...Aragorn
Elrond---Arwen
Elros chose the way of man, but Elrond the way of elves. I'm not sure when they stopped choosing what they wanted to be...I don't remember that part well.
So, yes Aragorn is in love with a VERY distant relative. Between Aragorn and Elros are some 30 kings.
He's a type of his ancestors, fallen in the same trap as Beren and Luthien.

thank you for the summary btw. -
I think the ent-wives are bushes the same way the ents are the trees, and a while back they started living further apart or turned into bushes or something like that. -
I'll just wait for Collier to clarify with authority. -
I hate to dissapoint you, but the fate of the Entwives is largely unknown. They had gardens north of Emen Muil (where Sam and Frodo meet Gollum) and the area between the Misty Mountains and the Anduim. During the Last Alliance of Elves and Men (that battle where Sauron is "defeated"), it seems that the gardens were destroyed and the Entwives too. Some seemed to have fled, but no one knows where they went. -
Tolkien doesn't really say where they went -
Elrond: the kind of elves FC kids talk about. Elros: the kind of elves FC kids think about -
but i WANT him to say where they went. I dont like having to leave it up to my imagination! bah! -
can't wait to see Shelob! -
no joke. i was so let down by her not being in Two Towers, where she belonged. -
and was a little worried that she'd go the way of Bombadil, until Smeagol referred to her in the TT. -
and for those of you who love Bombadil, you can check more of him out in The Tolkien Reader -
just thought you'd like to know that my brother is a big geek! -
Hmm...gigantic spider...that is exactly the stuff hollywood wants to show. All powerful little man that sings and bounces...no wonder they left that out. I like Tom, but I undersatnd why they left him out. They'd be crazy to leave out Shelob -
So, I don't think you read my comment earlier. So, I'm going to try again. Do you know if Maria knows a girl from Colombia named Paula Uribe? -
Sorry, I read that when you wrote it, but didn't talk to her until last night. She doesn't think so...but it's possible. Who is she? -
Oh, if you want, just e-mail us at the above address. -
Well, I don't see your email anywhere on here, so I'll just write it here. -
Paula is around your age, and like I said from Colombia. She has been diagnosed with aggressive ovarian cancer, and has asked for the prayers of the saints. So, it would be very good and profitable to pray for her at this time. Thanks! -
OH, and she lives in Cincinnati right now. -
another thing that irks me is that Aragorn just hands over his sword and stuff at Rohan. No biggie! *sigh* Will we see a reforging in rotk??
