Update

I kari leigh fontana have decided to take over my mothers blog and do it for her. So here i go filling you people in on wat's been going on. I shall do it like i am her. eh-heh.

Monday my two lovley daughters Kari and Abby went to go see their grand parents and they stayed for 3 days. Now their grandmother is staying a few days with us. I'm sad that my summer is almost over but am looking forward to what the school year might bring. This year i'm teaching Kari Algebra 1 and Abby Algebra 2. It's going to be hard but i'm up to the challenge. Also Tonight Abby and I are going to an Auction with Mark's sister and her husband. I think it will be very interesting. That is all for now, I'll talk to you guys late r.

Oh yes and i'm excited for New Moon. The girls have got me hooked on the Twilight Series. Though i still haven't been able to bring myself to finish New Moon. There's too much of Jacob Black in it. Team Edward all the way!

Summer is flying by and I can't believe we'll be starting school in just under a month. And what I really can't believe is that Abby is going into the 10th grade and Kari is going into the 8th grade. That means this is our 11th year of homeschooling. CRAZY!!!

The Masses Have Spoken...

After reading the homeschooling article Dotty mentioned below, I figured that would be a good topic to put on my blog since it's something I actually know something about.

The article was very pro-homeschooling which was refreshing. I didn't realize that over 4 million children in the U.S. are now homeschooling!

One sentence I thought interesting was "...92 percent of superintendents believe that home learners are emotionally unstable, deprived of proper social development and too judgmental of the world around them, according to a California study by researcher Dr. Brian Ray." These are college-educated, professional people and they actually think 92% of homeschoolers are emotionally unstable? Notice it says they "think". Where is the data to support this reasoning? I "think" this is a huge leap in logic to assume that the majority of kids who are homeschooled are cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.

I know homeschooling was the right choice for us, but that doesn't mean it's right for every family.

I believe the public school system can be as good or as horrible as the student wants to make it. If the student is studious and hard working, respectful and caring, then they will excel in a public school setting. If they don't care if they are even in school, then they will probably not succeed in that setting. There are wonderful public school teachers and not so wonderful public school teachers just like there are wonderful homeschool teachers and not so wonderful homeschool teachers.

I think a case for either method of teaching could be made. There are pros and cons to both sides.

I have been blessed to be able to stay home with my kids and we chose to homeschool. I thank God almost every day for this privilege.

So come on superintendents, give all of us homeschoolers a break, open your eyes and see the positive things homeschooling accomplishes and stop making up things to make public school sound superior.

    The part that got me was "too judgmental of the world around them." What?! Some people just don't think about what they say.

    I'm fortunate that all of the school officials I've been in contact with last year and again this year are very complimentary of homeschooling. That really surprised me. I expected condescension, but was pleasantly surprised.

    I liked the Marie Antionette movie...not alot of dialog but still good. And if you read the summary on Wikipedia it runs almost the same as the movie which I thought was interesting. I did not remember she was beheaded on the guillotine. UGH. I kind of felt sorry for her even though she probably spent France into bankruptcy almost.

I'm down to a yearly post now...before it was at least quarterly!!

The girls and I are enjoying our summer vacation. We've been out on Summersville Lake a few times and that's always fun for our family.

Hopefully, we'll get to NC later this summer to visit all of our family down there. I guess that's it for now...
