Weekend - Spring Begins

It's time to do the Spring cleaning, I guess, as we have now ventured into the Spring Equinox (or is that tomorrow?). We plan to go through more things in my old bedroom in Swayzee tomorrow while I'm in town to preach at Normal, and plan to go to the Jamestown meeting tonight (Saturday) with James Hahn on the subject of the Masons. It should be very interesting.

We did make it to Westfield's meeting on Thursday, and did not go to any meetings Friday, as we will be going to meetings from Saturday to next Friday (Gadsden's is next week with Brian Anderson of the Traders Point congregation, as I've been advertising, 7 pm Monday through Friday, 9:30 am and 6 pm on the first day (Sunday) only). We picked up some things at various stores, wheat/gluten/soy free bread for sandwiches this week, pop for me as we were about out, and a birthday card for my uncle - we're having a birthday party for him tomorrow afternoon at Grandma Stroup's house in Swayzee.

No news from anyone about my preaching for them, but I am hopeful the most recent group I've contacted will have some folks down to the Gadsden meeting, and maybe I'll get an invite then. If not, nothing has changed.

Today, we need to wash clothes and get ready for the next six days of meetings. I feel tired already....and we have the pre-drywall meeting on Tuesday, but I did take that day off, and we both have dentist appointments this week. How did that happen?

Oh, well. It's quiet here right now in the ole apartment. It's sunny and 60 degrees, or so says my internet weather information.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

The rain has found us this morning - big time - but I think it's out of here soon. Enjoy the meeting with James. I haven't seen him in years.

It poured rain (like buckets) here tonight. It began during services and continued for an hour or two. I hope James was doing well. We have known him for years. I used to attend in Scottsville KY when he preached there. This is like 35+ years ago.

Thursday

Time for the NCAA tournament to start - our queue boards are now televisions to watch the games at work. We have free pizza being served, but I can't have it - the worst thing for a wheat/soy allergic person, and trying to diet, too. I just ate some carrots and cauliflower for a snack - um, it's not the same. Pizza is one of my favorite things, and I wish I could eat it without getting sick. Sheila does make it at home sometimes, with a gluten/soy free crust mix we find at the Marsh on Michigan Rd.

I had 2 (!) students last night for the Islam class, but had complaints that I did not have passages of the Koran to read. I did go get a copy last night at Half Price Books, but we won't have class again for two weeks due to the Gospel Meeting with Brian Anderson, and few teens have been coming to Wednesday night services since December, so it's hard to say if I will even be teaching my material in two weeks or not. I haven't done much with the Mormon outline, other than gather materials to use for an outline (I already have a copy of the Book of Mormon).

We plan to go to Westfield's meeting either tonight or tomorrow, probably go to Jamestown's meeting on Saturday about the Masons. That should be an interesting study. I still need to get ready to teach II Corinthians 10 in between the meetings, and want to start the Mormon outline sometime this weekend. I also need to write bills, too (Ugh - the paycheck is already gone before the deposit is in the account).

Next week is the meeting all week at Gadsden - please come, it's a lot easier to come to yours if you come to ours, and we have the pre-drywall meeting on Tuesday at noon for the house. Both Sheila & I have dentist appointments this coming week, too. I wish it was all over already.....

Lord willing, we will attend one night at Gadsden. BTW, we didn't get a flyer, so I'm glad you put up the news here. Have you had pizza from Monical's? They have a gluten-free version.

I don't know about soy-free, I just know they advertise gluten free.

We had a nice time last night at Westfield, a lot there who knew Sheila from her church days in Noblesville, so to a few there, I was "Mister Sheila".

Question

I was thinking of a particular chain that I wish was still open, actually several, when I thought that I should ask this forum the following question -

What product or store chain do you wish was still in business, and why?

I did not feel like writing something momentous today. Work has been slow this morning, even though I came in early for overtime.

Hills Department store in Kokomo. I don't know why really other than that's where we bought all of my clothes for school when I was little and I have a lot of memories of being there with Sheila and Donna.
Okay and the big Noble Romans, where you could watch them make the pizzas and the big monster dude would come in on Saturday nights....very much miss that.

I miss Bacon's Department store where Steve (my brother) used to work. Dillards bought them out.
They had reasonable prices, variety, and a return policy you wouldn't believe. They never asked any questions. They took back everything, even things they knew came from another store, or things obviously used. One lady even brought back a dress with the hem out where she was altering it and changed her mind.

I was just telling Gene about Bacon's this past week. It was the best in department stores. Dillard's brought in the uppity-ness. I miss it, too!

Bacon's sister stores were McAlpins, The Jones Store, Gayfers to name a few. Do any of those ring a bell?

I am mindful of the old Biff Burger in Marion (they served tater tots - real good ones, too), and Meyer's (the drive-in), also in Marion. I couldn't have them now, but I used to eat Marathon candy bars when I was young, too. I also miss Burger Chef & Sandy's restaurants, too.

Some chains I remember are the W.T. Grant stores, the Shopper's Fair in Marion, Robert Hall, and

"...until we meet again!" Don't you love it when songs get stuck in your head? I have the silly Lolly-pop computer commercial jingle stuck in mine. Maybe I can get "Happy Trails" going!

Robert Hall was in Illlinois, and was mainly a men's clothing store.

Did I Say There Was No Overtime?

Was I wrong - there have been a rash of storms on the East Coast, and we're taking property and auto claims. Lots of calls for home damages, but I've only had one this morning. Overtime, however, is available, so I'm staying until 7 pm tonight, and will go in early tomorrow (Tuesday). We were planning on going to Westfield's meeting tonight, but we'll try it instead on Thursday.

I did preach a lesson on Jude at the 6 pm service at Gadsden, and caught a few innings of a Cubs spring training game. Work is hectic today, but I will need to start an outline on the Mormon church for the teen class, and read over II Corinthians 10 for the AM class at Normal this Sunday.

Sheila & I did go to the Heart Center on 106th and Meridian yesterday to visit Reva Collier, one of the ladies at Stilesville. She had had an episode with her heart skipping beats, and she apparently had a pretty close call. We saw her there and her husband Leroy also. Reva is 80 and has had a lot of health problems of late, too. She is supposed to get a pacemaker put in today sometime, so certainly pray for her.

Also, don't forget Gadsden's meeting, starting next Sunday with Brian Anderson. 7 pm on Monday through Friday.

PS - BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH!

Sleepy morning, as I'm going in early. Sheila's a bit annoyed that I'm getting ready at the same time, but hopefully it's just for today (although we really need the extra overtime money). I just hope to stay awake until 5:30 (or later, if more OT is available).

Not Working for the Weekend

In other words, no overtime. I did venture out this morning in the rainy, damp, yucky weather - took some money out of the bank, stopped at the Marsh and was accosted by Girl Scouts wanting me to buy cookies (I politely said "No, thank you" twice - entering and leaving), which I could not do because I'm allergic to wheat and soy (and, therefore, most forms of chocolate). I also looked for a specific brand of Enchilada sauce mix - McCormick's, but could not find it at Marsh, nor did we find it at the new Kroger last night. I did find one, but it had wheat flour in it. I don't really need enchiladas today (Sheila fixed some Thursday night), but I always want to stock up if I can. I will check Meijer for them next, but not sure if we'll do it today.

I am preaching tomorrow night at Gadsden, but haven't heard back from the group looking for a preacher just yet. It would be nice to even have a tryout, for once.

No other big plans just yet, hoping to get something done this afternoon.

Have a good weekend.....

If you have opportunity, there is a front page article in the Indianapolis Star today (Saturday March 13) about Swayzee High School's 1964 Regional basketball game that they won in a record 9 overtimes. There was a picture of the south side of town with the sign mentioning the record.

hey bc I grounded Wyatt one Saturday we now have 5 extra people sitting in our pew. I told this to Dennie Mizell and she told me to go ground him again and get some more people...lol.
Seriously, it dawned on me after having to break Wyatt and Jackson's playdate, why don't we take Jackson to church with us. 2 weeks later his mom came with him, the next week mom came with him and his brother and sister. Last Wednesday and yesterday mom, dad, Jackson, Gabby and Sam all came! That's pretty cool.
