new job
So I got a new summer job as a math tutor for a very well-to-do family in an extremely nice area of Nashville. So that's fun. I love math. I wish I would have known how much I would like math after working at Mathnasium. But I still do love history the best. My dream job would be to teach elementary math and social studies. Does someone want to hire me for that? Thanks.
For real though, I have got to figure out what my next major life move is going to be. I only have one more year at WKU (and I don't know where I'm living yet!), and after that I don't know where I am going. I can either
-apply to teach at a community college
-apply to teach at a private school that doesn't require teaching certification
-work on teaching certification and apply to teach at a public middle or high school
-apply to Teach for America, which I'm probably going to do regardless of the other options and just see if I make the cut
orrr
-apply to graduate programs to get my PhD in History and then teach college. WHAT?
orrr open a Mathnasium. Not really, but it is probably my favorite job ever. I just don't know anything about business or else I might seriously consider it. But the most likely thing is one of those history related teaching options above.
So, besides having all these totally confusing and out-of-my-hands (mostly) options swirling in my head, I have a lot of free time this summer. Should be reading for my thesis for the fall..I'll get on that. :) And in the meantime, I'm re-reading Lord of the Rings, hanging out with my few Hendersonville friends (lol), looking forward to the final Harry Potter movie, and traveling around. This summer, I've been to Fall Creek Falls, Tennessee; Mammoth Cave, Kentucky; Mt. LeConte/Gatlinburg, Tennessee; and Athens, Alabama. And this weekend, going to Daufuskie Island (near Hilton Head). So excited!
Also, been having a skype Bible study with a reformed (Calvinist) friend just about every week for the last few weeks, and that should continue. It's very interesting. I also had one Bible study with a Buddhist girl. That was interesting. I'm trying to think of something else to study with her besides the basic overview of the Bible we did. We'll see.
Have ya'll read any Francis Chan? I just read Erasing Hell. Solid. Not cheerful. But needed.
I'll leave you with this from 2 Cor 5:
Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses' face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end, will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory? For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation, the ministry of righteousness must far exceed it in glory. Indeed, in this case, what once had glory has come to have no glory at all, because of the glory that surpasses it. For if what was being brought to an end came with glory, much more will what is permanent have glory.
Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end. But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
God's plan is amazing. Trusting in that for all that my uncertain future may bring.
