Me and Matt
Thanksgiving break was fun...but rather fast. Me and Matt left on Tuesday night went to Chattanooga, stayed wednesday then on Thursday went to Atlanta and then on Friday drove all the way back to Bowling Green so that we could both work on Saturday...not exactly a relaxing break...but it was nice.
And now we only have 3 more weeks of this semester left!!
I'm glad we got to be at West End on Sunday. The a.m. sermon that Todd Chandler did was great. It made me think alot. I think alot of us (as in christians) have a problem with trying to hard to fit in here (as in this world). We aren't supposed to be people of this world. We are a "peculiar people" according to I Pet. 2:9. It's like going to a different country, let's say Africa, your a strange person there, you stick out like a sore thumb. Well, we are in a strange country here. We should stick out. In fact, in order for us to be obediant we must stick out. We should not conform to this world. If we can't find a difference between a christian and a nonchristian in the way they behave or go about every day life then we should be concerned. Todd used the example of Samson. He had to live by the Nazirite vow. And doing all the things that this vow required wasn't just a walk in the park. In everything he had to be very careful...it took hard work to make sure he was doing everything right. This is the case with us...being a Christian isn't easy. We shouldn't have the mentality that after we become Christians we dont' have work at it anymore. As Christians we are continually surrounded by evil...I mean...what is tradition and customary to everyone else may be things that we can't do. I can think of lots of examples, especially living on a college campus...drinking, sex, immodesty...these things are normal everyday things to the world, but they shouldn't be for us. We don't need to compromise our life in Heaven because we're too afraid to be different!
I'm afriad my life has been to easy-going...being a Christian means we have been recruited into the spiritual battle, and I don't think any military person would say that that kind of life was easy...it's hard work. And it's not just a sometime thing...if the military got tired and decided to take a day off then they would be killed by the opposing force...and the same is true for us...if we don't keep at the top of our game then Satan's going to have the opportunity to get us.
"Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing" James 1:2-4
