Submission in Prayer

Show me Your ways, O LORD; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day. (Psalms 25:4-5)

Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:10)

These two passages remind me that prayer is about submission and not selfish requests. Here are two quotations for your consideration:

“Prayer starts the communication process between ourselves and God. All the options of life fall before us. At that point we will either forsake our prayer life and cease to grow, or we will pursue our prayer life and let Him change us. Either option is painful. To not grow in His likeness is to not enjoy His fullness. When this happens, the priorities of the world begin to fade away.” Richard Foster

“When we pray, asking God to change a situation, He usually begins with us.” John Maxwell

Great points! What an amazing thought to think that God blesses us, even by changing us, for relying on Him... because He wants to!

While I can understand this, and I know that God wants us to grow, and uses our requests in prayer as an opportunity to provide that growth for us, I wonder whether this suggests that prayers for healing will be answered with the strength to endure the suffering instead. And while that may often be the case, we're specifically told to pray for healing, and to have the elders pray for our health. This is an area where my understanding seems to get poorer as I get older.

^^I understand your confusion. I have the same challenges. Some things we don't fully understand. Thankfully, its all temporary here on earth!

Nice bike! Looks like you might be selling ice cream from the box in the front.

I've never seen a single pear on the tree. Wikipedia suggests that the fruit is usually taken by birds when it is still small and hard, but I haven't actually noticed any on it.
