Water Night

Was looking through random stuff on Facebook (on Jody's facebook actually) and came across this. I found it amusing. The idea is that you put your iPod on shuffle and the title of the song is the answer to question. You get some fun answers, plus people see a bit of your music library. As you might expect, some answers are truthful (oddly enough), some are plain wrong, and others are bizarre/hilarious.

Cautious Re-emergence

Pleonast is much like crack to me... I'm dipping my toe back in the waters, but I'm going to limit myself as I typically spend way too much time on here.

I saw HBP Tuesday night at the midnight showing. The crew working the movie were a bunch of noobs and couldn't figure out how to position the projection properly. After 5 minutes of adjustments (stopping the movie twice), they finally got it right. Everyone ended up getting a free pass, so I'm not gonna complain much. As for the movie itself, it was good. It was the best of the movies, by far, but sadly it still simply cannot compare to the books. Even at a 150 minute run length the amount of material they left out of the book is staggering. It will be nice that the final book will span two movies (and five hours perhaps?), but honestly, books 4-7 all need 4 hours+ to be done properly (OotP probably needs 5 hours at least). Perhaps 20 years from now when they are considering a remake of the films they will do it properly, but do I really care? No, I don't, because the books are fantastic and no movie will be able to come close to even equaling their greatness. I suppose I would give the film 5.5 out of 7, maybe 6/7. Anyone who has enjoyed the films up to this point will certainly love this movie, but me, I cannot be pleased. ~sigh~

I also saw Public Enemies last week. Highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys movies in general. Depp is just mesmerizing. Very much looking forward to Alice in Wonderland; that film is already looking spectacular. 6.5/7

Been following the Tour de France very closely this year; I have great respect for Lance Armstrong, and the fact that he is doing so well is very exciting. Tomorrow's mountain stage should end Nocentini's care of the yellow jersey and, barring a disaster, Contador should move into first and Armstrong into second. The tour goes through the Alps next week which will reveal if Armstrong can hang on or if he really is the old guy he should be.

Life is otherwise ho-hum. Dad is currently in the Philippines on his 2nd missionary trip (he returns August 17th) and Mom and Ethan are in Ohio, so I have the house to myself. I greatly enjoy the peace and quiet, but some days are rather boring.

Cheers

-Glenn

I'll let ya know if it's great (it will be!)!

Also, the family is going to the Renaissance Festival this weekend. None of us have ever been to one, so we are all really excited.

Finished my new hire paperwork at Amegy today and Monday 8am in Houston I go in for orientation. I'm gonna have to leave at 6am to get there on time. =O Yea for Houston rush hour! :P

QoS

Quantum of Solace was fantastic. Dad and I went to the midnight showing Thursday night/Friday morning. It was, just, wow. So good. The hype may wear off later for me (entirely possible) but this is my new favorite Bond movie (previous fave- Goldeneye), and Daniel Craig is now my new favorite Bond (previous fave- Timothy Dalton).

I'm gonna hafta go see this at least two more times while it's in the theatre!

Also, Dad and I consulted the dictionaries, and according to m-w.com, "sōl'-ace" is an acceptable pronunciation. This makes more sense to my mind what with words like sonar, solar, sober, etc.

  • ninja_penguin
Your credibility just went out the door when you said your previous favorite Bond was Dalton. Seriously, the best Bond will always be Connery.

I'M EMPLOYED!

AAAAAAAAAAAAA!

I just got off the phone with the lady who did my first interview and they offered me a job at Amegy Bank! Not only did they offer me a job, but they offered me a wage that was 17% higher than what I had asked for! I am totally and utterly floored and amazed. I knew that I interviewed very well, but that well? I can only say, when God blesses us, He blesses us well! His providence has been working in my life for the last few months in ways that I could not foresee at the end of July when I quit Petco and left Kansas. I am speechless.

Tomorrow I go in for a personality assessment. Next week, or perhaps later this week, I'll have a drug test. My first day will be Monday the 24th of November.

I'm so excited I could burst.

~glenn~

UPDATE:

For those who missed it, I will be a Personal Banker with Amegy. My official title will be "Associate Personal Banker (floater)." I will be (potentially) working at all of the Amegy branches in the Southeast Houston Division: Friendswood, Webster, Clearlake, Texas City, League City, and Dickinson. Dickinson is the "home" branch, so I'll be based there (which is great, because it's five minutes from the house) and fill in as needed at the other banks, either as a teller or personal banker or both, again, as needed. I was talking to my new boss about the position and she told me that they recruit from the floaters first when permanently located (non-floating) positions open up. The position I have is very much a "get your foot in the door" type position. I don't expect to be a floater very long.

Also in the way of updates, I have a drug screen/fingerprinting scheduled tomorrow at 11am in downtown Houston, followed by a personality assessment at 2pm at the same place I first interviewed. I've never had a drug screen before, and the most I've ever done with fingerprinting is to put a thumbprint on a check. So, this'll be interesting, lol.
