Peace out, Pleo

I'm done here. Check my facebook if you're inclined.

True Blood [an update]

[This has nothing to do with vampires]
Today I am in the Dallas area for a business lunch. I'll be meeting a woman from a very large insurance company about positions available here and possibly in the Houston area as well. Resume in-hand, I hope this will be the 2nd big step to entering the "real" world. Whether or not I get a job offer, I'm quite anxious.

Not only is this daunting, but I have only one more class to take before graduating. It seems like it's taken a long time to get to this point, but I know it's for the best. It's allowed me to mature into a young woman and know what it is I want from life. I've been looking at apartments in this area as well and budgeting to be sure I have no problem providing for myself. I'll still be eating "college food" for a while, but that's fine by me.

Step 1: graduate.
Step 2: start a full time career.
Step 3 (which is inter-related to Step 2): move into a cozy apartment.
Step 4: make advancing payments on student loans

This summer is very important to the rest of my life and I'm finally realizing it. I'm healthy, my pets are well-kept, and I have a great support group in Dallas. I caught up with 2 of my college friends a few days ago and was able to reconnect with them. Many of my fellow graduates will be moving here as well.

By the way. Grampa, if you read this, please check your facebook email.

I deeply appreciate all of the support you have shown me through the years. I've worried you, made you smile, been confusing, and tried to learn all I can from you. I still lurk the murky hallways of Pleonast to check on you, so don't think I've disappeared. I'm alive. And I'm kicking.

Time for me to get ready for my lunch, I leave in about an hour. I hope these butterflies dissipate before it gets here. Wish me luck!

Dear College

Dear College

I officially hate how expensive you are. You said you'd teach me a lot, and instead of basking in educational glory, I am in up to my eyeballs in debt. Thanks a ton.

Yours disgruntledly,

Emily

p.s. The bags under my eyes were a nice touch! touche.

VeggieTales Flavored Snacks sounds misleading, but are very good.

I'm up to my eyeballs in debt for my kids' college, and they are too.

when you get out, keep living like a student. i slapped 1k/month at my student loan until it was paid off.

when we get our adoption credit back this tax return, we should be able to pay the last of Jeremy's off. *phew*

we're in the same boat with randall's, and he won't even be done until sometime next year. I try not to think about it if I don't have to.

Msnbc did a documentary on college debt and if it was worth it. I won't spoil it, but it and I were in basic agreement.

A short story about the "good old days": My school cost my parents $300.00 a year and cost me 12 hours a day on duty in the hospital for 6 days a week, 51 weeks a year for 3 years. It was a grind but I am glad that I was there and did that.

Willful progression

While I haven been a fan of the Nast for a while, I maintain a regular
Presence of observation. And I've gotta say that through my
Browsing and browsing I see a lot of the same thing: stagnation.

I myself have been extremely guilty of this vice and am taking
Extreme measure to avoid my inadequacies. My last full semester
About to start and I've never chomped on the bit so much in my
Life!

I've also been taking a more personal route with God for the last
Few months and feel closer to our Higher Power than ever. However,
I do not see enough people persuing spirituality. Oh sure, you come
Off as religious, but look within yourself. Are you really close to God?
Do you truly admit that presence within yourself? Or are you simply
Taking the 6-step program to "salvation"...

Whatever path you find yourself trodding, God is a part of you and
Is there to guide your feet.

So here's my new years resolution list:
1) keep an open mind and avoid bias filters
2) listen more and speak less
3) read... Just read (I am shocked at the lack of knowledge on
Science/world news/philosophy/etc. in this culture)
4) enjoy each moment for what it is, a learning and growing experience
