Hello Pleo!

Almost forgot Pleo lives on... Just wanted to add an updated post. June has been really, really full. Finished up little league, preached a week in Humble, spent and amazing week at Canyon Lake, and then came back for a week of Southside Lectures. Tonight Sommer's parents and siblings are coming over for a mess of fried crappie and shrimp at our house... then off to Anahuac for Thomas' baseball game (Som's lil bro).

Speaking of Anahuach, please continue to pray for Mickey Suttle. He is a faithful, wonderful brother in Christ who is suffering from an extremely dangerous form of brain tumors. He is resting at home, but it has been a tough go. By prayer we access God's mercy and if our words align with God's providence, great things always happen! So let's all pray for our brother Mickey!

Hope you had a good time.

We'll be in Vidor this tonight for Jesse and Amber's going-away party, and for worship tomorrow. Wow, I guess next Sunday he'll be preaching in Germany!

Ball, Ball and more Ball

Okay, we are truly enjoying the baseball/softball season... it is just getting to that point where it feels like the "its a small world" ride at Magic Kingdom... never gonna end.

We do have some pretty great games coming up for anyone who would like to see Luke or Hannah play.

Hannah starts an all-star tournament in Baytown this weekend. Her first game is Friday night at 8. I think it is at Baytown North... although I'll have to check to be sure. She will then play at least one more game Saturday. (double elimination tournament).

Luke plays Saturday morning at 9 in Mont Belvieu. He has done great this year for being the youngest guy on the team. I just got his stats via email today: 23 at bats. 16 hits. only 2 strikeouts. That's a .700 avg! We play the first place team... so... victory will be sweet.

I know there are lots of ball moms and dads out there... and we can be a tired bunch. But isn't it amazing seeing your kids feel great about themselves?!!! That is by far my favorite part!

Those were some of the best times! We just seemed so close then, always doing things together. Those concession-stand dinners seemed pretty hectic, but they were really happy days.

Busy, hectic, crazy coaches, crazy parents, kids going to bed late 4 nights a week...I wouldn't have it any other way! I love it!

Baytown North? Why are they playing on LL fields?

Okay, I actually don't know where they are playing.... where are the softball fields in baytown?

My Hannah and Weston both played this year. Hannah moved up to coach pitch, and it was amazing watching how much Weston has progressed through his t-ball season. Hannah is done, but Weston still has five more games. It can be VERY tiring, but worth every minute to see them having fun!

Come See A Slugger

No, not the Astros... they are terrible. No, not even Luke... although he is doing well this year.

NO, come see a slugger: Hannah "the bomber" Emerson! She is playing 4 games this weekend! One Sunday at 9am, then at 11, then Sunday night at 5:30, then 6:45... Just kidding!

She is playing tomorrow night, Thursday, at 7:30 (against an undefeated team) ... should be a great battle (we've only lost once)

She plays Friday night at 6pm. And Saturday at 1pm and 4:45. All games are at the ballpark behind Dairy Queen on 146 near I10: McLeod Park.

Price of admission is cheaper than ever ( merely a Vanilla Latte from SB for her dad :)... now that is cheap entertainment!

---BTW - Luke is playing Friday night at 6 as well .... 2 for 1 !!! ---

We never looked at a Pilot, so I can't really say. We were actually looking for slightly smaller vehicles, and if the new Equinox had been out, we would probably have bought it. The only Honda we looked at was the CR-V, and we also looked at (and almost bought) a Hyundai Santa Fe. You probably want the extra space, though.

The Traverse is a little bigger, a little quieter, and has more power than the Pilot. It gets slightly better highway mileage according to the EPA test, but when Car and Driver compared them a year ago the Traverse got worse "real world" mileage. But the difference really wasn't all that significant.

We haven't had any problems with the Traverse, but there is one recall (which we haven't taken it in for). The Pilot may have recalls, too, for all I know: Most cars do get a couple over the years.

You will probably find the Pilot to have nicer materials, better plastics and such, but the final price of the Traverse may be so much lower that it's worth the difference. You can usually get good discount on GM cars.

If you're interested in comparison tests, look here. The Honda came in first in their test, and the Chevy was 5th, but none of the vehicles really stood out from the others. I don't usually agree with their rankings, because my priorities are different. Also, have you driven a Mazda CX-9?

Anyway, we do like the Traverse. I imagine we're going to have it for a very long time.

This is a mistake ...

I know it is, even before I type it. But I am joining the "bring Pleo back" party, so I'm going to blog anyway... knowing that responses will likely not make me feel better.

So, I have an inflamed wisdom tooth situation going on. One is in. Two have yet to show up. But this fourth one wants in bad, and has caused some sort of infection I guess. I am on Motrin 24/7 and have an appointment with the oral surgeon Wednesday. So, and I hesitate to ask... any memorable (preferably hopeful) wisdom tooth stories?

He is doing about the same... talkative and alert, but still hurting. He'll be in Houston another week or so. Check out this caringbridge website. We get regular updates from Bill's son, Scott, via that blog. Let me know if it won't let you in. You may have to set up an account first.

Ambasol will help with the pain and Listerine will help with the infection.

My dad had five wisdom teeth one of which was impacted. When he went into the Air Force they told him that the impacted tooth had to come out.
After three shots of Novocain to the root the tooth still was not numbed. So the dentist proceeded any way and ended up have to shatter the tooth in order to get it out. According to my dad the experience was very painful.
Remember you asked for stories. As far as the hopeful part goes, my dad survived.

I would also like to note that I have all 6 of my wisdom teeth, 2 on the top and four on the bottom.

Only had 3 (aren't I lucky), and had them taken out 3 months before Joshua and I got married. Surgeon hit a nerve and now the left side of my tongue is numb. That was 6 1/2 years ago and no hope for recovery in sight. But....I survived too. I guess that's the hopeful part.

I remember counting down 10... 9... 8... and then the next thing I remember is waking up with a bunch of gauze in my mouth and practically sleep walking down to the car where my mother drove me home. The next two days was pretty much sleeping and only waking up to take pain med. As long as I took it I was just fine. But one time I decided to sleep through, and when I woke up later I totally regretted it.

The worst part about it was... oh never mind. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Honestly, I don't know why you would want to go to the dentist in the first place, I sure you know plenty of people that would pull the tooth for you for free. There might even be a couple that would pay you to let them pull it.

I had mine out when I was still in high school. Mostly because my parents had just paid oodles of money for braces and the dentist said they would mess that up. Anyway, the only story about it I have is that even if you think you feel good enough to 1. get up because you're not feeling any pain...don't! 2. if you think you're fine to drive....don't! You won't stay on the road! hahahaa Thank goodness we had to drive out through Porter where there were no curbs to hit :) haha I have NO idea where I went I just remember attempting it.

I had mine out in college. I apparently quite enjoyed the laughing gas, spent all day sleeping and icing my face, then was a date to wedding the next night with very little swelling. :) You'll be fine!

Jumper Cable Bandit

So, Saturday afternoon Sommer drove her car to the local grocery store and when she came out, her car wouldn't start. I couldn't find any jumper cables, so I called Jason West. He met me down there and we jumped it off. I got home, let it run a while, turned it off, then it started right up.

We let it sit until Monday morning. I tried it out ... click, click, click. Battery dead. So, I couldn't find jumper cables anywhere. I tried all the stores on Eagle drive, no dice. I went by Jason and Emily's house, and he had taken his only set to work. But... he worked across the road at Barbers Hill H.S. So I drove over to grab his out of his truck.

I opened his toolbox, pulled them out and drove home to jumpstart the Durango. I put the cables in my car, drove it to Walmart, got a new battery, and went straight to work.

That evening, he calls. The first thing I say is, "I'll bet your car is dead and you could use some cables, right?" Hey says, "what do you mean? my cables are right here beside me. I thought you had already brought them back." "Um," I said, "no, I still have your cables." He says, "those aren't my cables."

Turns out, I took cables out of a truck he believes belongs to his principal. Oops. And, because I left early today for some thing... important ... g to the olf... I am still a criminal at large.

Funny, I thought while grabbing them: "If a cop drives back here I sure look suspicious. I sure hope he believes me when I tell him I know the guy who owns the truck." Turns out, I didn't. So, thanks nameless authoritarian of young minds ... you save my Monday!
  • maucknot
I'm sure some administrator was looking out the window of the school and said: "Is that George Lopez stealing jumper cables out of the principal's truck?"

Just goes to show what all the thieves know -- you can steal things in broad daylight if you act like you know what you are doing.

^ I didn't include the part of the story where I spent 20 minutes, using every tool in my garage to try and get that battery out ... and couldn't even get the thing to budge! I watched the walmart guy wrestle with it for at least that long. Dodges are mighty protective about their batteries.
