Back to school.
Well, folks...that's about it for my winter break. It was long, but it flew by. Fortunately, Holly was able to come up for nearly two weeks, but as this winter break comes to a close, I'm gettin' a little nervous about the coming semester. My classes are really core classes that I need for my major. I got my books and spent a fortune on them, knowing that I'll never see any of that money again until I get my degree, and discovered that they are full of what appears to be Latin (well, not really). Needless to say, it'll be interesting. I really have to do well, and don't really worry about that, but it looks like a really daunting task as I take a sneak peak into my semester. Frankly, I can't wait for it to be done. That means only one more year to go before I graduate.
On another note, I have recently acquired, as a gift, a mandolin, and have had plenty of fun becoming some kind of hillbilly freak toting my mandolin around and working on my scales in some attempt to reach the greatness of ones such as Bill Monroe. Well, we'll see...it looks like I have a long road ahead of me.
On a still further note, I have recently found myself on the tread mill. It's been below zero out, and not conducive to running...or much of anything for that matter. Not that I would ordinarily go out and run...but when my breath is freezing in my beard, and the wind chill is -25, I'm not too inclined to do much other than stay inside. Back to the point...I've been running lately, and, in spite of what I may have said in the past, am finding myself getting beyond the breathless stage of suffocation and burning legs, and on to actually enjoying this sport. I'm on a training schedule now that I found on a site dedicated to running. The program is called "The Couch to 5K." That's about 3 miles for you non-metric folks. And "the couch to 5K" about describes me. I can't run that far yet, but the couch part definitely describes me, and I've decided to do something about it. I'm only into the third week of this nine-week program, but I'm feeling good, losing weight, and gaining endurance. I'm hoping to be in a lot better shape by the time that I can see Holly again.
Well, other than that there isn't much going on. Hopefully I'll have a post soon about my new car.
