New Job!!!

Well, I'm really excited about my new job. I am now officially a phone guy. I have been for the past week. It's been really nice. I must admit, I really do not miss teaching at all. :) I'm glad to be done with it. However, this phone stuff is pretty cool. I like that it pushes me in so many aspects. I'm learning all sorts of new things (as evidenced by all the random dreams of late). Its a customer service and teaching job, so I get to interact with people on a regular basis. We have to wire phone systems, so the physical skills I developed as an electrician get used. And I'm learning programming, which pushes the mental aspect. I really enjoy it, even though it is a tad unpredictable. or maybe because its unpredictable. And of course the best part of the job is that I work with two fellow Christians.

The job was definitely an answer to our prayers. It has been stressful figuring out how to pay the bills. God answered our prayers, and my faith in His promise of Matthew 6 has never been stronger. I am so thankful to have a God that watches over us so well.

I'm also taking on quite a few projects. I've been playing indoor soccer for the past month. I hadn't realized how much I had missed soccer until I got back on the field. I let out a holler on the way home it felt so good.

We've been doing a weekly Bible study lately that I've been teaching on Galatians. I've really enjoyed it. I've taken the things I learned as a teacher and added them to our Bible class. I've been using a lot of collaboration methods. I think it has been very effective. The people in the class have really liked it. I'm finishing up an Ephesians adult class on Sunday mornings next week. I was mean and had my students memorize Ephesians 6:10-18. I've had at least 9 students memorize, and I'm sure others did as well. I was really proud of Lacy, she memorized the verses and quoted it to the class this morning. Not even a hiccup! I get to teach the auditorium class for three weeks a week from Wednesday. I think I'll do prayer. I also have book I'm starting to work on. So much to do. But Kathryn's post about doing what your hands find to do inspired me to keep the course with these sometimes seemingly overwhelming goals.

Lacy and I moved to McKinney. We like it here. We love our apartment. We've almost got to the decorating, and should do it by next weekend when Nathan and Rachel come to visit. Marriage is wonderful. I'm blessed to have such an amazing wife who has made so many sacrifices for me.

Pray for us as we go along that God continues to bless us and that we continue to grow in His grace and knowledge.

I'm glad things are going so well! Congrats on the job!! My husband works in the "low voltage" field, too, and really likes it :)

Books

Hey guys,

Looking for good, clean books. I enjoy mystery, action and sci-fi genres although good story-telling is probably more important than genre. Also if you know if you can find them on kindle or nook would be nice to know too!

Thanks,
Josh

I like "100 Cuboards" and I'm pretty sure you can find all three of the trilogy on Kindle. I've read the first one and plan to read the other two soon. Chris and I both like the Abhorsen series by Garth Nix. I don't remember anything bad in it, but it's been a few years since I've read them. All of those listed are "Young Adult" level, but it seems that's almost all you can do to get clean books these days.

I just purchased "Then Sings My Soul" last night on my Kindle. It has several hymns printed in it and the stories that go with them.

I'll recommend "Son of Hamas," even though it's non-fiction. I could recommend lots books...but that's one I've read recently that I want to encourage others to check out. I know nothing about "kindle" or "nook."

Also: Tim Boaz mentioned you'd be interested in something I noticed: the lampstand in the Tabernacle had almond blossoms, you know...and when Aaron's grew, it grew almonds.

Actually, I have no idea what's happened to that Ruth study. I'll look for it, but I never had it on my computer, and I've gone through a few moves since then, so I doubt I will find it...

^ Thanks for the comment. As far as the Moses/God statements in Ex. 14...yeah, I've heard lessons that argued what God was rebuking what Moses said, and lessons commending what Moses said. :-) Ultimately I think the two statements go together: Moses' comment emphasizes focusing and depending on God. God follows that by telling what we (or the Israelites) should do...an action that can really only be taken after God himself has acted by parting the waters, and further the thing God commands (walking forward on the path he's made) is really not much of an accomplishment compared all the big things God does. To some extent Moses was right: the Israelites just had to silently watch while God parted the sea. At that point, they still had to go forward, thus accepting the opportunity God offered. So taking the statements together, the scene presents our reliance on God, combined with the idea that we still do something, but it puts that "something-action" into a perspective that shows how little it is compared God's action.

I hope that makes sense and seems reasonable.

Another idea: someone suggested to me that Ex. 14:15 is really more a response of the Israelites' cry in v. 10 than some kind of rebuke.
