Quite possibly the best performance of anything ever.

I've watched this video about ten times already today. And after I upload it, I'm gonna watch it again. There's a reason this woman got long standing ovations every night. If the length scares you, skip ahead and start the video at about 3:20.

Wow, Jenn, that woman totally put all she had in her into that song - that was stunning.

This doesn't have the ending I'd prefer, where she holds that last note out forever over three orchestral punctuations and then a final chord. But, this clip has everything else that matters. :)

If I tried just one of those screams I wouldn't be able to sing for a week. The strength of her voice is amazing. Imaging doing that once a day.

I cried. There's so much passion going on there.... my only frustration is the "gospel jaw" that's going on. It's absolutely terrible for your vocal chords, and very distracting while she's singing, but that's a very difficult thing to break singers from when they've grown up singing Gospel in churches..... she was amazing. Thanks, Daniel! :)

There's more raw emotion in that voice than in any other woman's voice in history.

Jennifer Holliday: Educating girls who THINK they can sing one ballad at a time! Did you know she won the Tony AND the Grammy in 1982 with this song?
And Aubrey, I'll see your "Smile" and raise you one "Over the Rainbow"--they way it was meant to be heard...

answer two quick questions, please...for my own curiosity...

1. Do you know the song "His Eye Is on the Sparrow"?
2. How old are you? (approximate ranges are acceptable for those of you who are vain)
  • rmiller
Funny, notice how there wasn't a single response from anyone under 40 until after 8:45 AM!
    by rmiller at 12/24/09 9:53AM
  • sparker
yes, but there was someone over 40 who responded before 4am - and I'm betting they hadn't gone to bed

I think our dads have led that one, but I'm not completely familiar with it like many others. And I'm 23.
