I'm Happy Today!

We are certainly rejoicing today! Our son Drew was baptized into Christ this morning. We are so proud of him for making this decision, and we pray for his growth and faithfulness. Thanks and praise be to Almighty God for His grace and the gift of salvation that comes through our Savior Jesus Christ!

Are You Being Cheerful?

I know I haven't posted anything for a while. I am one of those people who like facebook better than pleo (at least in some ways). Anyway, I have been blessed to be working with the Galena congregation in a gospel meeting this week. It's been very uplifting and encouraging. Tonight's lesson is "Are You Being Cheerful?". So I was just wondering if you have been being cheerful. If so why? If not, why not. It's a little late to affect what I say tonight, but I was wondering how people were doing in this area. Have a happy day, and come see us tonight at Galena at 7:30pm.

No. Not really. Of course it varies day by day. Yesterday I was cheerful. Today I am not so much. Mostly tired and went to the doctor to get stuck with needles. Maybe that's not a good example of what cheerful is. If you could define cheerful, then maybe I am but just don't know it. For me cheerful and happy are on similar planes. If I feel good, I'm happy. If I feel bad, I'm not happy but I can be content. So what would you say? Glad to hear your sermons are going well. We have been enjoying Buddy Payne speaking at Gooch Lane here. Last night he spoke on is it reasonable to believe in God in the Age of Enlightenment? It was really good. He used 2 Bible passages to show that the Bible recognizes the intracacies of life, then he used what scientists have uncovered about the human DNA to show intelligent design. His reason for not using more Bible text was, if people don't believe in God then the Bible isn't important to them. It was really great and I found out that 2 of my children know more chemistry than I ever learned in KY schools!!!!

boy, did dave harrison just flash across my memory!

i am cheerful, because i want to be. i have to really work hard at it, though.
it's hard to shake off the dreaded sadness, but i've always been a fighter.

Monk's remarks say it all. Sometimes you have to work at it but if you are a christian you should be happy. Now that is not to sad that sad things don't happen but alot of people wake up unhappy or sad. You make that choice I think. I chose to be happy because my Lord and Saviour gave me everything that I need, and I have everything to look forward to IF I follow his commands. It's simple and I think thats why alot of people miss it.

India Trip

Many of you know that Simon Harris and I were suppose to leave on the 7th for India. Unfortunately we have had to cancel the trip. Simon has an excellent explanation on his blog, so I did the ole copy and paste thing rather than write my own. Here it is...

Jonathan Purkhiser and I have decided to cancel our trip to India. We were supposed to leave Thursday Jan. 7, but the political situation in Andhra Pradesh, India makes it unwise to go right now. It wasn't an easy decision, but following the advice of two Indian preachers, and many trusted friends in the States we think it is the right choice.

In December, the people in a region of Andhra Pradesh (a state in India) called Telangana began calling for an independent state. Their chief legislator went on a hunger strike, and 20 college students committed suicide to further the cause. The central government of India granted permission for the formation of the new state and total chaos broke out. Politicians from the other regions of the state don't want the state to be separated. MAINLY because the state capital, largest city and economic hub of the region is the city of Hyderabad is in Telangana.

While the violence and unrest are concerns for us, what concerns us most is that much of the state is observing a strike the Indians call a "bandh." In a bandh everything is closed: banks, shops, factories, etc., trains and buses don't run, and many of the roads are closed. It's these conditions that really moved us to cancel the trip. Our intentions were to teach classes for Indian preachers during the day and preach in villages at night. A bandh just makes that impossible.

Unfortunately, it appears that this issue is not going to be settled anytime soon, and there's a chance that the formation of a new state will have wider political implications for the rest of India. So, instead of trying to reschedule the trip, we are going to cancel the trip with the hope of going in the Fall of 2010. I humbly solicit your prayers in regards to the situation, and especially on behalf of the Indian brethren who are facing economic hardship as a result of the crisis.

Thanks to all of you who kept us in your thoughts and prayers. Please continue to remember the Indian brethren at this time.

Sort of expected the loss today; but the Vols will not go as deep in the tournament as the Cats. Of that, I am confident. Very few games we are going to go 2 for 22 from behind the arc (and still were tied with a couple of minutes left on the road against a good team). Cats needed a little humbling so they will work even harder!
