Two more weeks, God willing!
-
As God wills, Troxel, Marla and I will be heading for Germany 2 weeks from today. The time has really been passing quickly! It was just Thanksgiving a day or two ago - right? Anyway, we're excited about seeing Kennon and Chris soon, as well as Chris' family. We plan to spend a couple of days in Munich first to see their Christmas markets, then drive to Leipzig. I'm not sure what the plans will be once we get there.
It's been a year and half since we were there for the wedding. Everything was so hectic at that time, that I hope this visit is a bit less exciting. But a little exciting would be ok. :)
Trying again...
Troxel is trying to coach me on how to use p'nast. I am so totally ignorant about using this site and, unfortunately, either my computer or my monitor make it very difficult for me to actually see the different boxes and instructional words on the screen.
When Kennon was here this past summer, he, too, had trouble seeing the boxes and he knew what he was looking for. I don't. Apparently someone else has had similar trouble.
So, slowly but surely I am trying to learn.
At the same time I joined p'nast last spring, I also joined FaceBook.
I've been really overwhelmed by the 'friending' on that site, since not only are Christian friends on there, but also a host of Scouting friends plus friends from my past.
I really do prefer p'nast but have been bumfuzzled by how to use it, and I've just not had the time to learn.
I hope from today on that I can do better. We'll see.
The past few months--since my original post on here--have been gonzo.
I've been teaching a Bible class for 3rd to 8th graders Sundays and Wednesdays this quarter on two related curricula on worldviews - BridgeQuest on Sundays and The Compass on Wednesdays. [The Compass is not at all related to the fairly recent movie of that name!] They both are based on an apologetic for Why I believe in Jesus Christ. It's been encouraging and clarifying to me; I hope it has been to my students, as well.
Along with this class, and the rest of life, I've also been pretty busy with Boy Scouts.
At the end of the summer I finished being on staff for a Boy Scout Powder Horn - a fun resource training for adults. On the course folks get to try out activities like SCUBA, kayak, mountain biking, climbing, sailing, dutch oven cooking, horsebackriding, shotgun, archery, black powder rifle, hatchet throwing (my first time and a blast!), etc, and then take home a lot of contact information for how to do the same activities with their youth. It's great fun!
God willing, Troxel and I will be the co-course directors for our council's Powder Horn next August and September. We're recruiting staff right now and have already begun recruiting participants. Next year is Boy Scouts of America's 100th anniversary and the year is full already of a lot of different events. Nonetheless, we're hoping that we can have a full course of 48 participants for the Powder Horn.
God provides.
Last Saturday I helped train 35 boys at the Den Chief Conference. God willing, this Saturday I will help train 20+ adults and youth at the Trainers EDGE - a train-the trainer council training event. Tomorrow night I hope to lead the ceremony to give a fellow Scouter his Wood Badge beads. Wood Badge is the Boy Scout training which involves 6 packed days of instruction and learning activities followed by up to 18 months of work on a Ticket - a series of goals giving focussed service to Boy Scouts. Last year I was a troop guide for a Wood Badge course. Five of the seven Scouters in my patrol completed their Wood Badge tickets. The ceremony tomorrow night honors one of these five.
I pray that in all our busy-ness, that Troxel and I will first be lights and salt for the Lord.
Nothing else really matters.

60th birthday celebration
Elizabeth Rigby, Troxel and I had a grand time at our 60th Birthday Potluck and Ceilidh last weekend. It's taken me all last week to recover. Now, we are looking forward to homehosting a Japanese chaperone for 2 weeks, starting this Thursday, God willing.

Howdy in the Lord from Houston!
We've just had the two most pleasant late-May days I believe I've experienced since I moved to the Texas coast about 35 years ago. The weather was mild and rather dry, with a nice breeze in the shade. Praise God!
btw: My WALC (Weekday Alief Ladies Class) at-one-time secret pal, Crystal Garza, this spring gave me a daily devotional book on HOPE. It has essays written by Bible-believing authors over the centuries and has been most encouraging to me.
If there's one thing our uncertain economy and out-of-control culture needs, it's God's HOPE. And God really _is_ Our Only Hope!
May you be encouraged today to love God and others more and to do good works in His Name!

Happy Birthday! I'm not as good as Becky at remembering, but I'm taking her cue and hoping it is your birthday today! :) Looking forward to your party!

Just wanted you to know that you met 2 of my children a couple of weeks ago. My oldest, Brandon, and 3rd child, Rebekah were at the Texas Rock Lock and went with my sister in law to Alief on Sunday. You sent my son a card... Just wanted you to know that they were MINE! Isn't it a great family in the Lord!

Today is a splendid spring day here in Houston, and I hope to go on a picnic for lunch with long-time friend JoAnn Turner. Not only did we formerly worship together for several years, but our daughters were both in the same Girl Scout troop. Lots of fun.
May God bless your comings in and goings out.
