The Pioneer Woman in the ATL

Last night, I joined some friends at the Borders by Phipps. We stood in line for 2 and a half hours so that we could meet The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond. She was also joined by her sister Betsy and her friend Hyacinth. She signed her cookbook and her article in People for me:) Betsy and Hyacinth also signed their recipes and the cookbook. I also got a PW T-shirt, made by the ladies at Wild Olive Tees.

If you don't know P-Dub, you should really check out her website:The Pioneer Woman
Also, Wild Olive Tees is a small company that makes t-shirts for woman and children with a spiritual message. They are very cute, so here's the website if you want to check those out: Wild Olive Tees
Have a great day everyone!

Yeah, while watching Starship Troopers I was wondering if they made it so stupid on purpose. Like as a parody or something.

Not the movie

I posted this last year, but until I find something that better expresses the events and feelings of this event, I will continue to post this:

Yesterday, Dec. 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.

The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with the government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific.

Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleagues delivered to the Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or armed attack.

It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. Very many American lives have been lost. In addition, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.

Yesterday, the Japanese government also launched an attack against Malaya.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked Guam.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.

Last night, the Japanese attacked Wake Island.

This morning, the Japanese attacked Midway Island.

Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.

As commander in chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense.

Always will we remember the character of the onslaught against us.

No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.

I believe I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger.

With confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounding determination of our people - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us God.

I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, Dec. 7, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire.
-Speech delivered to the United States Congress by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Pearl Harbor was that generation's 9/11. The World War II veterans in this country are dwindling in numbers. You can read their obituaries in the newspaper everyday. I would like to say thank you to both of my grandfathers, a soldier and a sailor, for their service to this country, and I would like to thank all of the active duty, reserve, and veteran servicemen and women that are on Pleo. Say a prayer, visit a memorial, thank a veteran. Let us never repeat the treatment our veterans were given returning home from Vietnam, and may we never forget the sacrifices that were made and are being made everyday. God Bless America.

I can't really participate in that discussion; I've only seen about half of an X-men movie, and I'm not sure which one it was. (Where Phoenix, I think, goes berserk.) I was never a fan of X-Men anyway though.

I memorized parts of that speach in high school and still remember it. My parents told stories of learining of the attack and life durring the war (like my mother's older sister teaching school in a volcano near Pearl Harbor during the latter days of the war) and also my dh's uncle is now writing a book about his experiences as a POW in the Philipines (he survived the "Battan death march")

There is a MAJOR difference between then and now. The ONLY reason we defeated Germany and Japan is because our will to win was stronger than theirs. Based on recent wars, starting with Korea, does that will still exist?

Wisdom from Starbucks

When ever I go to Starbucks, I always read my cup. Usually it has "the Way I See It #____" and someone has written a little blurb about his/her perspective of the world. Because we have entered into the holiday season, the cups now say "Pass the Cheer", and give an example of how you can do that.
The blurb from my grande chai latte: "A good way to pass the cherr when you're on the road is to pay the toll for the car behind you. Do this and you might start to look at stoplights as holiday lights instead. Red mean stop and be thankful for the moment. Green means go out and do nice things."
I would submit my own additional thought: Yellow means slow down and look for opportunities.

Going along with recent posts from Eddie and Than, let us all(pointing a finger at myself) be on the look out for ways to serve each other.
Matt. 22:37-40, 23:34-40; I John 2:10, 3:17-18, 4:7-21

Have a great day!

More song lyrics

Welcome to the planet
Welcome to existence
Everyone's here, everyone's here
Everybody's watching you now
Everyboy waits for you now
What happens next? what happens next?

I dare you to move, I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move, I dare you to move
Like today never happened, today never happened before

Welcome to the fallout
Welcome to resistance
The tension is here, the tension is here
Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be

I dare you to move, I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move, I dare you to move
Like today never happened, today never happened before

MAybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go? where you gonna go?
Salvation is here

I dare you to move, I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself, lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move, I dare you to move
Like today never happened, today never happened
Today never happened, today never happened before
-Switchfoot, "I Dare You to Move"
------------------------------------
Hello, good morning, how you do?
What makes your rising sun so new?
I could use a fresh beginning to
All of my regrets are nothing new
So this is the way that I say I need You
This is the way, this is the way that I'm

Learning to breathe
I'm learning to crawl
I'm finding that You and You alone can break my fall
I'm living again, awake and alive
I'm dying to breathe in these abundant skies

Hello, good morning, how you been?
Yesterday left my head kicked in
I never, never thought that I would fall like that
Never knew that I could hurt this bad

Learning to breathe
I'm learning to crawl
I'm finding that You and You alone can break my fall
I'm living again, awake and alive
I'm dying to breathe in these abundant skies

So this is the way that I say I need You
This is the way that I say I love You
This is the way that I say I'm Yours
This is the way, this is the way

Learning to breathe
I'm learning to crawl
I'm finding that You and You alone can break my fall
I'm living again, awake and alive
I'm dying to breathe in these abundant skies
-Switchfoot, "Learning to Breathe"

I love Switchfoot.
