Violins and Archery

Going to see this guy on April 3.

Needless to say, I'm excited! He has broken the record for playing The Flight of the Bumblebee the fastest (one minute, six seconds)!

Here's another one that "Pirates of the Caribbean" fans will like...

Sunday afternoon Chris and I played archery together. I seem to remember some things from 8th grade, but I'm anxious to try again later this week. Chris made us a target out of some boxes and a paper target on front. I have yet to hit it close to the middle, but maybe with practice.

It's supposed to rain today and for the next several days. I'm just glad that it is warmer outside now.

I've written the soprano line for the hymn that I posted below. I'm hoping to put some of the other parts in sometime soon.

Hope you have a great week!

The Voice of the Lord

"The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty...The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire. The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness..." Psalm 29:3-4, 7-8

See the waves crash on the shore.
Hear the thunder, like a lion, roar.
Feel the flames of fire, great
And the wilderness shake.

Powerful, and full of majesty,
The voice of the Lord is in these.

The lame man walks again.
Many healed ones praise His holy name.
Stormy winds, they wail no more.
Sinners' hope is restored.

Powerful, and full of majesty,
The voice of the Lord is in these.

Christians let their lights brightly shine
Telling others of a love divine.
Jesus paid the bitter price
So the world could have life.

Powerful, and full of majesty,
The voice of the Lord is in these.

Snow again...

There's a nasty mix of snow and rain outside right now. It snowed around this time last year, so I shouldn't be surprised, right? Maybe this is the last one for the year... :)

The recital went well on Sunday. It was much fun, and I was invited by one of the teachers to come play again next year when they have it in Nashville. Fun! By the time we got to the end (Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star) there were 53 violinists on stage. Cool!

Teaching went well yesterday. I'm wondering if anyone will opt out of coming today b/c of the weather. It doesn't look bad out, though. I'm giving my first ever violin group lessons on Thursday afternoon/evening. I hope they go well and that people enjoy them.

Today is my father-in-law's birthday. So, happy birthday to him!! We're planning on seeing both of Chris' parents on Friday to celebrate.

Saturday we want to go see Alice in Wonderland. Who else wants to see it? It looks weird, but what Tim Burton/Johnny Depp combo wouldn't look weird? :)

What are your plans this week/weekend?

Sorry to be the one to cancel on you today! I just want to make sure Henry's cold doesn't turn into anything worse. :(

before you go see Alice in wonderland, you should see Edward Scissorhands. That was the first Depp/Burton combo. If you like that, then Alice should be okay, I'm told.

I remember that snow last year. The most I've ever seen in my life. Emily and I drove back that Sunday from Dickson to Memphis and it took us 6½ hours.

Update on Norman Saayman

Thanks so much to everyone who has been praying for Mr. Saayman. He has gone through surgery well and will be in ICU until Tuesday. They operated on 4 of the 5 blockages. We do not know why they didn't take care of all 5. I guess time will tell. In the meantime, please continue to pray for him as he recovers and for his dear family as well.

Things are going well here. Chris is gone for the weekend doing his monthly time with the reserves, but I've managed to stay busy today. Tomorrow afternoon, I'm playing in a concert, so I still need to do some practicing for that.

Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!

I went down to Tampa to see friends, the FC musical, and attend the MOSI singing, so I've had a good weekend so far. :-)

Sometimes blockages may be in arteries that aren't as important as others. Also, it may depend on how blocked it is. Arteries that have less blockage are often more dangerous than ones that have more blockage. They can erupt and cause a clot and death. Sounds counterintuitive, but the physiological reasons make a lot of sense.

New Music

I got a few new songs today on Napster. Including:

"The Way I Am" by Ingrid Michaelson. I've found that I can match her voice pretty closely. That's cool, b/c it hardly ever happens :)

And, a couple of songs from "The Man from Snowy River" soundtrack. That has so many memories. My brother, Jordan, used to watch this movie every year and even called himself "tractor man cowboy" (the tractor man came from living on a farm and the cowboy part came from the main character in the mentioned movie).

I started writing a poem that could be a possible hymn tonight. I'm using Psalm 29 as a starting point. I'll post it if it turns out okay.

On another note, please pray for Norman Saayman. He is my friend from South Africa who is also a preacher there. He is having major surgery tomorrow. Please pray for it to go well and for his family not to worry.

Question for the post: What are some of your favorite secular songs as of late? Post the title, artist, and why you like it (if you want).

Have a great night!

Ashley

UPDATE:

Urgent Prayer Request: Norman Saayman who I mentioned above needs our prayers. He went in to have is pre-surgery check-up and they found 5 blocked arteries to his heart. He is having by-pass surgery tomorrow. PLEASE pray for him.

    Como Tu by Carlos Vives
Suerte by Jason Mraz...This one is in English, too- Lucky by the same artist. But I like the Spanish version better- it just has a better flow to it.

I've also been listening to the album 12 Nights In Hollywood. It's live performances of Ella Fitzgerald. I love these songs. They're just a bunch of standards, but so fun!

I also love finding people that match my voice and my recent discovery is Carrie Hassler- she's a bluegrass artist and I love her voice and it's easy to sing along with for me... plus there's some cool songs on CHHR2 (name of cd)

First and foremost, praying for your friend.

Second, I LOVE new music. One of the greatest ways to find new music is to go through Pandora.com. I also have a playlist of my favorites from 2009 on my blog right now. I like Ingrid Michaelson, but that song has gotten old to me. I love "Be OK" by her even more. I like "The Corner" by Allie Moss, "Momma's Boy" by Elizabeth and the Catapult, and "Nicest Thing" by Kate Nash. Stay away from most of her stuff though because it can be pretty raunchy. I do like Sara Bareilles' "Gravity" and "Fairytale" as well. Here lately, Joshua Radin is my LOVE. He has a few songs that have a few words but most of it is super smooth and it's LOVE between us. ;) I love "The Fear You Won't Fall," "I'd Rather Be With You," "Brand New Day," "Winter," "Do You Wanna?," "Sky" (With Ingrid Michaelson), "Star Mile".... I could go on and on. I've also fallen in love with Kevin Hammond. He's got a bit of a Jason Mraz style in him but is much, much cleaner from what I've heard. I have his song Stronger on my blog, but check out Youtube for more of his music. I'll keep thinking :)

    Praying for Mr. Saayman!

Have you heard some of Regina Spekter's songs? She reminds me of Ingrid Michaelson.

I re-watched the "Man from Snowy River" recently and discovered in the process that the actor did all the stunts himself (including the crazy downhill jump near the end!). I don't normally enjoy westerns, but that one is good! :)
