Knitting

A good friend of mine from San Marcos is teaching me to knit. She got me started and let me take home two needles and yarn yesterday. I was on a roll last night, so I decided to unravel it and start from the beginning.

Unfortunately, I couldn't cast on again, so I spent a good part of the evening watching internet videos about casting on. Apparently, my fine motor skills and mimicking abilities are terrible! After watching the same video at least 10 times, Dan, who was reading a captivating political book, finally stopped and showed me how to do it. It turns out that I wasn't the only one learning from the video. I'm still quite hopeless, but maybe I'll get better next week when I meet up with my friend, Gwynne, again.

I'm doing all sorts of new stuff this summer: volunteering at the cooking school, learning to landscape, sew, and knit. It's all been fun, but slow work for beginners.

Here's to new hobbies!

I feel your pain! I really want to learn to crochet and bought books, watched videos etc. My mother said she can't help because she's left handed and I'm right handed. My mother-in-law is an excellent "crocheter" but only speaks spanish and lives in Mexico. She showed my 7 yr old niece how to do it and she picked it up in minutes. At least Dan isn't a 7 yr old! :)

Someone else in your family knows how to do all sorts of needle work including needlepoint, sewing, crewel work, crocheting, cross stitching, and knitting - silly girl! But, casting on is my weakest area!

Dan has always been a closet knitter! Didn't you know that? He is so sweet to help you learn more domestic skills.

Yeah, she helped me cross stitch. I haven't done it a long time; there's still some things I can't do well...knots, backstitch. I want to learn to knit. ~ I need to cash in some of your rain checks! ;)
