Random Ruminations

a) Sometimes, when I close the refrigerator door and open it again later, I think there will be something new, something better inside. I'm always wrong.

b) When I really think I want to eat something with gluten in it, i.e. pizza, pie, sandwich, and so on, I remember how terrible I used to feel and think better of it.

c) It may be just me, but Dunkin Donuts coffee is tasting more watery. I'm not happy. Of course, it could be the location I'm choosing to utilize. Hmmm.

d) I haven't laughed harder at a Youtube video in quite some time:

e) I'm back in school and it feels good. Mad good.

f) Hoodie weather is perfect.

g) Dracula by Bram Stoker is an excellent novel. Much different than I expected, but superb. It's a classic for sure. And also...

h) ...I like vampiric lore. Did you know the real Dracula was quite the sick fellow? He put people on stakes in his front yard and dined amongst them, dipping his bread in their blood. Sick indeed.

    I thought I noticed DDs coffee being watery, too. I've been adding a turbo shot just to get it back to the right strength. I thought it was just that I've grown accustomed to the rather stiff coffee I brew at home.

I Missed (Posting About) Victory Day!

I try to make it a habit to post about my favorite Rhode Island holiday, Victory Over Japan Day, every year. This year I seemed to have forgotten. Better late than never.

In honor of the end of World War II, and in honor of a country that produces video games I greatly enjoy, I played Civilization IV as the burgeoning Japanese Empire.

I "won" -- that is to say, I walked away with the highest score. But a couple noteworthy things took place:

As Japan I:

Wiped out the Aztecs (is it apostrophe 's'?);
Started a war with Rome, but decided peace was the better answer;
and
Forgot about my earlier peace idea and instead nuked two Roman cities.

Happy VJ Day (last week)!

  • mrs_rosshead
    haha! You're too cute! And, no, it's not apostrophe 's' because it's plural! If it was the 'Aztec's kingdom', then yes, apostrophe 's' because it's something that 'belonged' to the Aztecs!
    Love you and promise your mother you'll only wipe out eintire civilizations on video games ! ; )

Google: Check Out The Neighborhood

We heard there was a house for sale, so we decided to check out the neighborhood.

But instead of driving there, we used Google Maps, zoomed in until we hit street view, then wandered the neighborhood.

You should try it. Just type in this address: 5 Hodges St. Attleboro, MA. I don't know the zip code, but don't worry, Google knows what you're talking about.

There's an apartment complex across the street. A couple houses north is an elementary school. If you travel south, there sits another apartment complex, and a cross street.

Right in front of the house is a poor sap that's stuck in time, almost-but-not-quite looking at the camera. He's forever stuck in a half-look. What I mean is, he's just about to look at the camera, but his eyes don't quite meet the camera lens. Poor guy, I wonder if he knows he's that way. Stuck I mean. Probably not.

The price was good, and the accommodations were perfect. But the area surrounding the house wasn't up to par. It seemed too Woonsockety.

Still, technology marches on.

Side note: We also traveled down the main street in the town I lived in in Oregon. It brought back memories.

Another side note: I wondered how they got the 360 degree view. While traveling down the main street in my old town in Oregon, there was a good shot of the car's shadow. Right on top sat a camera on a stand. You can read about how it works by clicking here, if you like.

    Did you know they use facial recognition technology to automatically blur out people's faces? Someone found a horse in central park w/ its face blurred, too.

    Gotta love technology - I use Google maps when I am driving to a new place and I want to see what it looks like before I get there so that I can recognize it when I get there.
    Courtney that is so funny about Tyler.
