the farm
we have acquired a boyfriend for rosemary (the rabbit)
nate named him peter (original, right?)
he's gorgeously handsome
we have 17 (?) quail now.
we lost a few to their small size and the ability to get out of the section of their cage that was chicken wire and not smaller holed mesh
between their desire to abscond the facilities, the cold weather, and the cat that thinks of everything as his playtoy, two were found - one i'm sure was played to death, the other was likely played to death and then dismembered by a neighbor cat (as Po is too stupid to realize the fluffs are for eating and not just playing with).
another one passed today, which was saddest, as he was the runt bird (if there is such a thing), and i had named him Henry. we had even discussed never eating him, but letting him live with the ducks if he ever had gotten big enough to not fit through chicken wire, but he was too small, stayed too small, was bullied, and died of unknown causes.
the ducklings are sharing their coop with two huge ducks - donald and lucky - who were evicted from a fancy apartment complex and are hanging out with us until their owner can move into a house in the area with a real yard for them instead of a balcony. the ducklings are almost not even ducklings anymore.
it was nice that christina, one of our neighbors (who taught us how to homebrew not too long ago over some awesomely nate-made steaks) came over today asking for the official tour of our yard-turned garden. she has lived in their house long enough to have seen what ours was long before we moved in and she was very impressed with everything we've done, especially since we've planted a plethora of trees and bushes that will be permanent edible additions to the property, long past our departure, whenever that may be.

Lucky duck! -
But I only see 6 ducklings... -
We have wild quail right outside our house. Last year I saw a mama and her three babies following her down the driveway :-) -
Sounds wonderful! -
there are only 6 ducklings, and they are separated from the 2 non-duckling ducks by a short fence that the pekins can't get over. -
Nate told me about Peter the rabbit the other day, and my Peter wondered if you were going to eat him. :P
