so today i went to the hospital (i work in the PACU) (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) and i was doing my normal book work for the patients who had just come out of surgery. We were having a bit of a slow time so surgical nurse asked me if i would like to sit in the room and watch a surgery. And of course i jump at the opportunity. So she takes me to the surgeon who gives me scrubs and a hair net thingy and he told me that i could watch a lap appy (laproscopic appendectomy) but it would be a while and he would call the PACU when it was time. so at about 10:30 i got the call and rushed over, putting my hair net thingy on as i ran. So i was given a mask to wear and i walk into the OR and sit down on a stool right next to the patient. well, there was a sheet dividing the neck and head from the body so i couldnt see the head. but all of a sudden i hear them say "ok now the patients name is Austin Price." i know my eyes were huge after hearing this. I thought "wow there's more than one Austin Price." I looked behind me at the chart and saw on it, though, that the name was Austin Jordan Price and the birth date was 10/24/91. i freaked. i felt for sure they would kick me out if i told. so i just sat there starin at aj's stomach as they made incisions and stuck probes in him. but then they asked me where i go to school. i replied "ill be a junior at ABS." they looked at me and said "wow thats weird. do you know him?" i laughed and told them that he was a close friend of mine and that we were distantly related. they just thought it was neat though and kept going. it was the coolest surgery ever though. and after they took the appendix out, i got to hold it and tell them if it was swollen or not. they even let me play with it and all. later on i was with him in the PACU and helped him wake up and help take his vitals and all. then i 'drove' him to his room. everyone (including him) were so surprised i had been there for the surgery. this has definately been the best day EVER!
