Finances

Guys. Balance your checkbook.

Seriously.

It's not good to wait three months to do this.

Don't ask how I know this. I just do.

No kidding. You know, I find this so much harder with Deb and I both using debit cards. It's not that we overspend because of it, but a $2.00 transaction here, $5.00 there, and it takes a lot of time.

Horrible Songs

Have you ever been driving along, listening to some really catchy music, when you suddenly realize what they are SAYING?! Yikes. That happened to me tonight.

I shuddered at the horribleness of the song. They suck you in with the catchy tune...and then broadside you with filthy thoughts.

It's like that ring of gold in a pig's snout - so is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion. It's like the whitewashed tomb. Everything looks so nice and beautiful on the outside...but it's gross inside.

Classical music. Jazz. Something without words.

Getting Used to Church

J: I love Sunday, Dad.

Me: Oh, me too, Son. We get to worship God and be with our brothers and sisters.

J: Yeah. I love church. But I have to get used to church.

Me: You have to get used to it? How?

J: Dad...because your sermons are so long!

I hope I am ready for the brutal honesty my son is going to bring to my life :-) Maybe that's one form of pruning God plans to use on me.

Internet Safety and Accountability

I've been using a product called "Safe Eyes," which is recommended by Dave Ramsey. It blocks questionable sites and monitors online activity - websites, search terms, posted items, etc. I have mine set up to send a weekly e-mail to one of the brothers here in my church and one to my wife. The e-mail gives a quick summary of websites I've visited that week and some of the search terms I typed in. It keeps me accountable. I love it!

Here's a link: http://isafety.tellapal.com/a/clk/5pmpb. If you decide to try it through this link, I get a $10 discount AND you get a free 30-day trial of the software. I would highly recommend it even if I didn't get a kickback :-)

Yeah, but then Daniel would know what he was getting for X'mas. (I do ALL of my shopping online.) :P

Actually, that sounds pretty cool. I think as our girls get older and start being interested in the internet, we're going to utilize stuff like that.
