Question?

I've recently been debating with Evan that the Olympics ARE a sport. He begs to differ...

Opinions?
  • slave_of_jesus_jdb
    You shouldn't beg. Its petty.

  • AlanL
I suppose they are a set of sports.

  • slave_of_jesus_jdb
I would have to agree with adam. Your position is incorrect as stands. The Olympics are not a sport. The Olympics are a series of events that include sports.
    by slave_of_jesus_jdb at 02/15/06 1:27PM
  • slave_of_jesus_jdb
But Evan still shouldn't beg. I guess you're both in the wrong here.

  • darrenbob
umm i think its more of an event that contains some sports and some games

i think that each olympic event is a sport.

The Olympics is an event of which sports are a major part. However, Olympics is not a sport.

...Jenny, the Olympics aren't a sport. :) It's an event during which sports are played.

hey, I would agree with Evan. Some things at the Olympics are sports, but I would have to argue that just because something is an olympic event that does not make it a sport. However it probably depends on if you use the denotative or connotative meaning of the word. And I also would like to point out that I did not recieve a thank you. I'll try not to be bitter. :)

Yet Another Spring Musical

The time is here. This year you'll never believe what we are doing for the spring musical.

Gilbert and Sullivan! Amazing isn't!? HMS pinfore....aka...Pirates of Penzance. This show is going to bring back memories from freshmen year. The music in unbelievably like Pirates.

We've a week and one day till rehearsals and I'm no where near being ready for it. I'v had too much fun over the break planning my wedding.

If you're in Tampa this late Jan....try to be "CONSCIENCENESS!!!" of coming to see the show! (line from pirates)

Driven hither by objective influences-- thither by subjective emotions-- wafted one moment into blazing day, by mocking hope-- plunged the next into the Cimmerian darkness of tangible despair, I am but a living ganglion of irreconcilable antagonisms. I hope I make myself clear, lady?

Horses! Horses! Horses! Ding'a Ding'a Ring RING!!

This time of year always makes me think of that song that Meg Ryan sings in Sleepless in Seattle. Such a great movie.

So get this. Last night, some people (girls from hinely or sutton) put christmas signs up all over sutton and hinley and all over campus...that say "Reason for the Season" "Merry Christmas! They're on cars and buildings..everywhere. So this morning they were removed. Why? Maybe some people don't believe in celebrating Christmas (because of it having a pagan/catholoic origin) and the school has to be careful about that.

However, this very morning..."friends" will be having a "little 5 song show" of christmas songs.

Any thoughts?
  • dixiechick
That's one of my favorite scenes in Sleepless in Seattle. I want to find out sings that particular version and put it on a CD. As far as the whole Christmas thing, I don't know.
    by dixiechick at 12/08/05 10:38AM
  • adampual
ah the irony. it's all kinda ridiculous if you ask me. maybe we should just all be scrooges and not celebrate.
    by adampual at 12/08/05 12:03PM
  • jesspico
I hated we didn't get to do a "holiday show"... but that's cool they brought it back this year. I'd say there's a little bit of a contradiction goin on...
    by jesspico at 12/08/05 2:02PM
  • larry
Well... we are told to celebrate Christ's death, not birth... so I've always sort of been aginst the whole "reason for the season" thing. I wouldn't tell anyone else they were wrong for doing it... but I dunno... It's more of a conscience thing.
    by larry at 12/08/05 4:24PM
  • nickomundo
I don't mind saying Merry Christmas, but I do have a problem with the "reason for the season" deal. I don't necessarily have a problem with talking about Jesus's birth at any time, but the reason for the season is not his birth.

And as for the FC friends doing a holiday show, I say: "Whatev." Unless they start singing "O Holy Night" or something of a religious nature, they can be as secularly festive as they want.

    End of Rant.
    by nickomundo at 12/08/05 6:11PM
  • larry
And we shouldn't but the same restirctions on FC as we would a church for obvious reasons. I did have something pop into my head the otherday... perhaps we should make signs that say, "there's a reason for the 1st day of the week."
