Roadtrips, Concerts and a Pup in the Snow

I don't have much to post about, but I'm tired of looking at the previous post. :)

Went to Memphis with these two for MLK. The weekend included the following activities:
-sushi in a Holiday Inn (weird, yet delicious)
-lots and lots of running in the rain
-trolley rides
-MLK museum
-shopping
-Rendezvous ribs
-worship with a small group of Christians that included the singing of Hard Fightin' Soldier (awesome)

Went to Tampa with her for our FC reunion. The three days included the following activities:
-driving
-more driving
-dinner with Grandma
-a lecture
-reunion gathering in Sutton Hall (still smells the same)
-lunch at Old World Cheese Shop or something
-reunion gathering part 2
-coffee with friends
-Cracker Barrell
-IKEA
-driving
-Fazoli's
-more driving
-still more driving

Went to the John Mayer concert in Birmingham. Daniel got sick the night before, so he couldn't go. I volunteered to stay home and let someone else have the tickets, but it's a good thing he declined because I didn't really mean it. Does this make me a bad wife? Probably. What can I say? Seasonal flus come and go, but John Mayer from the 7th row is a rare opportunity. She was a great stand-in date.

OH! And it snowed in Montgomery. It never snows this far south. But, naturally Casey-pup had to get out and investigate.

Puppy's first (snow) steps - she's not too sure what to think of this:

And not too good at walking in it either... Whoops!! Thank you, adjustable shutter speed:

I guess I had more to post about than I realized. And I haven't kept up with my Little Things in the past few posts. I'll pick up where I left off.
19. Good seats at concerts.
20. Remembering a funny story with an old friend and still laughing about it til you cry ten years later.
21. Girl Scout Cookies. Tis the season for Thin Mints.

Love the pics of Casey pup. She's much more handsome than John Mayer. Oh, thin mints, how delicious you would be on my lips. But since I would eat the whole box in one sitting, I will skip them this year.

Sounds like you had fun except for the driving part. I understand that! Thankfully Ryan did the actual driving and I just refereed(sp?) the kids. I don't know which is harder. :) Looks like an awesome concert! I don't like the way he moves his mouth though. It's distracting. Anyways, it was good to see you and I'm sorry we didn't hang out more! Ryan's looking at jobs in GA so who knows maybe we'll see you soon!

Walkin' in Memphis... Walkin' with my feet ten feet off of Beale...

Well, there's been some nasty stuff going around the 'Nast recently. That needs to stop! How are we supposed to love the lost when we can't even love EACH OTHER??!!

Moving on...

All I can say, is that it's been a draining week. Do you ever feel like you're drowning in thoughts/work, yet you look around and feel like you've accomplished nothing?? It's only Wednesday, but my brain is fried. I am so excited to get out of Montgomery and hang out with two of my besties for a weekend.

Friday can't get here fast enough!!!

(I would like to clarify that I will miss my sweet husband very much while I'm gone... lest any rumors get started.) :)

Have fun in Memphis! Have a fried p-nut butter and banana sammie for me. People on here are silly sometimes. As our preacher says, they can go jump in a lake!

I haven't been on here much but I've thankfully missed out on the nasty stuff. How sad. I think sometimes people are more prone to write things than they would be to say them to other's faces. And I'm sure that some have good intentions but still, words can be very hurtful!

When I was young I was kind of mutter through the "feet ten feet off of Beale" part because I had no idea what the words were. Not that it stopped me from attempting to sing the song.

New post just in time for a new year...

It's December 30, 2009. I'm sitting in a recliner next to the glass sliding door that leads to the balcony overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. Nice. I'm waiting on Daniel to finish getting ready so we can go shopping at the Silver Sands Outlets. New Nikes, here I come. :)

I haven't posted in forever. I always sit down to do it, but then feel guilty because I have other stuff I need to be doing and I just can't get my thoughts together long enough to get it all down.

It's been an eventful couple of months. Daniel and I had our first wedding anniversary just before Thanksgiving. He set our wedding cake out on the counter to thaw. We went into the kitchen to get a piece and found that about 1/3 of the cake was missing... yeah. The dog licked all the icing off and ate part of the cake. We just cut that part off and ate it anyway, though. :) It was even better than the day we married!

We went to Birmingham for Thanksgiving and I had my first experience with Black Friday. My family is more of the lay-around-in-a-turkey-coma-and-watch-football family the day after Thanksgiving, rather than getting up at the crack of dawn to get trampled by crazy people. However, Daniel's family is full of experienced pros, so it was an enjoyable experience. I scored the new John Mayer CD, which I plan to hear from the 7th row in the BJCC in February. YEAH!

We hosted 28 people for a Tacky Christmas Party. It was mostly the young adult class from church. We had a good time. We divided into two teams - the Reindeer and the Elves and played Pictionary on a dry erase board with Christmas songs and movies. There was some Dirty Santa, and a very violent spoons game.... in fact, my left ring finger still hurts. Thanks, Lacey.

Casey got her girly parts removed. It ended up being a traumatic experience for her. She bled into her belly after the surgery and the Vet had to open her back up. :( When she came home, she had some nervous habits... Her first night home, at about 2am, I woke up to her wimpering in the living room. In my groggy state, I'm thinking she's bleeding or sick. I walked in to find her with something large and white around her mouth and neck. (I was really groggy, and I couldn't see anything because it was dark, and I didn't have my contacts in) I start to think someone has broken into the house and they're trying to muzzle her or something, but as I get closer, I see she has the trash can lid wrapped around her neck. It's one of those dome lids that has a swinging door. Her sleep schedule was all messed up and I guess she got hungry and went digging in the trash can for some goodies. Anyway, she did it again the very next morning. I took a picture, but unfortunately I don't have my camera cord to be able to load it in. It's HILARIOUS.

We went to Huntsville for Christmas Eve with my mom's family, then drove home to host Daniel's family on Christmas Day. My family came the day after Christmas and spent the night. After church Sunday, we drove down to the beach. We've had a house full, and it's been fun. We are headed home tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to sleeping in my own bed. After all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, I'm EXHAUSTED! But, it's been the best holiday EVERY! We are so blessed. I hope everyone else had a great holiday. Happy New Year!! :)

  • emmaroo
I'm glad it has been your best holiday EVERY! =) Happy New Year to you too!

Does Daniel run? Maybe we can all do a 5K together. I've only ran outside 1X so far, the other times I've done it on a treadmill. The outside run was HARD. I couldn't focus on my breathing and sucked in too much cold air through my mouth and got a bad cough. I am slowly building my endurance but I have so far to go. It is tough lugging around all this loose muscle!!

I need to double check with Nancy and Sheila b/c they had asked me if they could do a together discussion in January or February. If they want to wait till February then we'll need a January leader. I'm thinking Thursday January 21st though. I'll email the group to throw out that date. Ooh, Destin!!!! So there!!!!! Email me info! So it's the big 3-0 for you this year too??? Coooooool. =) We'll celebrate Tim's and turn right around to celebrate yours too.

I guess I'll throw out both nights and let the majority vote determine what night we meet. I'm a little behind in sending it out with everything that's going on with my Dad, and to be honest it's not going to get done right now either. I'm home briefly to get some laundry done and then get the kids from school. Then I'm headed back to Pville.

How to Win the Nobel Peace Prize in 12 Days

Let’s take a look at the president’s first 12 days in the White House according to his public schedule to see what he did to deserve a Nobel Peace Prize.

Editor's Note: Although President Obama had only been in office for 12 days before the nominations for this year's Nobel Peace prize closed the entire process actually takes a full year. According to the official Nobel Prize Web site invitation letters are sent out in September. Every year, the Norwegian Nobel Committee sends out thousands of letters inviting a qualified and select number of people to submit their nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. The deadline to submit nominations is February 1. -- Two hundred five names were submitted for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize, 33 of which are organizations. A short list of nominees is prepared in February and March. The short list is subject to adviser review from March until August. At the beginning of October, the Nobel Committee chooses the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates through a majority vote. The decision is final and without appeal. The names of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates are then announced."

Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize this morning. Over the last decade the only requirement to win the prize was that the nominee had to be critical of George W. Bush (see Al Gore, Mohamed El Baradei and Jimmy Carter).

President Obama has broken new ground here. Nominations for potential winners of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize ended on February 1. The president took office only 12 days earlier on January 20.

Let’s take a look at the president’s first 12 days in the White House according to his public schedule to see what he did to deserve a Nobel Peace Prize:

January 20: Sworn in as president. Went to a parade. Partied.

January 21: Asked bureaucrats to re-write guidelines for information requests. Held an “open house” party at the White House.

January 22: Signed Executive Orders: Executive Branch workers to take ethics pledge; re-affirmed Army Field Manual techniques for interrogations; expressed desire to close Gitmo (how’s that working out?)

January 23: Ordered the release of federal funding to pay for abortions in foreign countries. Lunch with Joe Biden; met with Tim Geithner.

January 24: Budget meeting with economic team.

January 25: Skipped church.

January 26: Gave speech about jobs and energy. Met with Hillary Clinton. Attended Geithner's swearing in ceremony.

January 27: Met with Republicans. Spoke at a clock tower in Ohio.

January 28: Economic meetings in the morning, met with Defense secretary in the afternoon.

January 29: Signed Ledbetter Bill overturning Supreme Court decision on lawsuits over wages. Party in the State Room. Met with Biden.

January 30: Met economic advisers. Gave speech on Middle Class Working Families Task Force. Met with senior enlisted military officials.

January 31: Took the day off.

February 1: Skipped church. Threw a Super Bowl party.

So there you have it. The short path to the Nobel Peace Prize: Party, go to meetings, skip church, release federal funding to pay for abortions in foreign countries, party some more.

Good grief.

I thought ^ was hilarious. In fact, the Governor of Alabama has done more to promote peace than Obama.

Jamie will hopefully go home from the hospital today, and will follow up with his regular doc when he gets back to NYC. His electrolytes are still a little off, and they still don't know what triggered the seizure, but they are letting him out to be with family. Charlotte's status is the same. Please keep them in your prayers.

Prayer Request

**Update**

To add to an already difficult situation: Jamie, Tbirds older brother, apparently had a seizure this morning. He has never had one before. They are currently at the ER waiting on a catscan. He is very confused, and doesn't know why he's in Georgia and why the whole family is there. Hopefully his head will clear in the next few hours. Please keep them in your prayers. Charlotte went home with Hospice care yesterday.

*********

Most of you know my cousin T-bird (Thomas Thompson, to you guys). His mom, Charlotte, has been living with cancer for a very long time. She was hospitalized this past week and they have discovered the cancer has spread to her liver and the blood cells around her brain. Because of this, she can't keep anything down and her body is filling with toxins. The doctors have given her less than a week. She will be going home on Monday, and they will do what they can to make her comfortable.

Please pray for her physical comfort in these next few days, and strength for the family as she leaves us to be with God. Praise Him for a way to salvation!

Be Still My Soul. The hour is hastening on when we shall be forever with the Lord. When disappointment, grief and fear are gone; Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored. Be still, my soul, when change and tears are past. All safe and blessed, O we shall meet at last.
