Something to Write Home About

Well, it's certainly been a long time since I've posted, but I think I have a pretty good reason to break the pleo-silence. Anyone want to hear a good story?? :-)

Once upon a time, there was a frog. He lived in the Great State of Texas, the land where 's are bigger and so are the egos. There also was this beautiful blue-eyed princess, you see. She didn't actually live in a palace, but she did work in one. And she had much more going for her than just looks. Yes, she had brains and personality and integrity too -- everything this little froggy was looking for. She even knew how to make him smile (something not easily accomplished in a froggy, you know).

Anyway, one day, as the story goes, the fair maiden kissed that frog (on the cheek, of course), and the next thing he knew, he had turned into a handsome* prince. Lucky for him! Soon after that, he found himself making plans to meet her parents who live in the far-away land of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

What will they think of the handsome* prince? Will his be big enough? Will the prince turn back into a frog? Will he croak under the pressure? Is he just dreaming? Tune in next time to find out these answers and more....

*Based on a story in real life - some literary license taken.

Hi, Brian! I'm one of Meghan's many friends in real life and on pleo. Many months ago I heard about you, while you were still a frog. :) So glad you're a prince now! And not just any prince... Meghan's prince!

200,000 miles!!!!!

Wow! Am I a nerd or what?! Can't believe I'm really going to post this. Well, I finally reached the 200,000-mile mark on my car. I wasn't quite there when I got home tonight. So I just drove around for the last couple of miles.

199,999
It was a little anticlimactic when it finally rolled to 200,000. I had been expecting to see a clear "200,000" all the way across, but all I saw was this:

200,000
My neighbors probably thought I was a little nuts for pulling in and out of my driveway twice more, attempting in vain to produce a full turn of the odometer. Apparently, the numbers in front don't come up all the way until you reach 200,001, I suppose. Oh well.

In any case, today, I would like to announce that my '95 Corolla (which has served me faithfully for the past nine years) is...

OFFICIALLY FOR SALE!
She's got quite a few miles on her and several cosmetic issues, but she's been otherwise well-maintained and would make a terrific "first car" for some lucky individual, or for anyone trying to save on gas!

Whatever the reason, if you are interested or know someone who might be, shoot me an email at brianpaher(at)yahoo.com and I'll give you the full details. Here are the highlights:
1995 Toyota Corolla DX Sedan 4D
manual transmission
30 mpg city (33 hwy)
A/C
cruise control
power locks/windows
KBB "private party" value between $1825 and $2265
I'll try to remember to take her picture tomorrow!

UPDATE:

I remembered to get a picture right before Bible class tonight. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but it'll do, I guess...

My Corolla
At least, I did get her good side! :)
  • maryjaneguillot

I don't know what I'm gonna get, but I'm open to suggestions. I do know for sure I won't be getting another Corolla. I've owned 2 in my lifetime, and they have been absolutely wonderful. But, after 17 years, I think I've made my point (not sure what that means exactly, but I thought it sounded good). I will now drive something different. I want to get something fun, but Dave Ramsey says it's gotta fit in the budget. Actually, Dave Ramsey says I gotta pay cash, but we'll see about that. Not yet completely sold on this "no debt" stuff. However, after recently hearing a statistic that 70% of a vehicle's value is lost in the first 4 yrs, I'm pretty sure I'll be getting a used vehicle, whatever kind I choose. I'm just not rich enough to throw money away like that... yet.

  • melissakae
"Dave Ramsey Says"... hahahaha. I find myself saying that a lot lately.

I LOVE my honda accord. :-) OOOH! Get a toyota Spyder. Of course, it's only a two-seater but it's so cute!

as much as I love trucks, with rising gas prices it would NOT fit anybody's budget right now. So don't get one of those.

Consumer Reports has a good "used car" section... you can borrow it from my dad if you don't have your own. :-D

Survivor: Benchley 2008

I'm not sure what I'm getting myself into, but I've been invited to participate in a survivor contest this weekend. Really looking forward to it and honored by the invitation!

Did anyone happen to record the Astros/Rangers game from this past Tuesday night? If so, I'd like to watch it, if you've still got it. Funny story. Maybe I will post about it later.

Okay, so anyone who hasn't signed up for Alex's Texas Rock Lock IV, go do it right now. There's gonna be human foosball!

My favorite Brian Yeager jokes is when he gets on a rant and insults Brian Paher:

    Thou churlish beetle-headed hugger-mugger!

    Thou paunchy idle-headed scullian!

[Thou art] like the toad, ugly and venomous.

    Thou gorbellied full-gorged haggard!

    Thou jarring spur-galled baggage!

Rogue, thou hast liv'd too long.

I never knew so young a body with so old a head.

    Thou wayward dismal-dreaming malt-worm!

    Thou dankish tickle-brained pumpion!

    - Those are just a few of my favorite ones :)
