Finally!

Hurricane Ike was not kind to Ohio, for those who haven't heard. After the 14th, there were 225,000 people without power, but they've been fixing it at a decent rate.

Today there were about 13,000 with no power, they say they'll all be restored by tomorrow but I have my doubts.

I never lost power, but cable (and therefore internet) have been out until today. Currently my cable internet is running at a max speed of 30kbps, which means I am getting .43% of what I am supposed to have. I'm hoping that as they get other nodes in the area back online the speed will increase significantly.

But hey, I've been surviving, and no one tried to break in, so I'm sure I'll make it.

I guess I'll go into a bit more detail regarding the last post. This is something I posted elsewhere just afterward:

Here's my new favorite thing about city life:

Half-naked people who try to break into my apartment.

As I'm about to go to sleep, I hear a bang. I assume someone upstairs dropped something.

I hear a loud crash, accompanied by some cans being knocked over on the table. That was definitely in here, I think.

I get out of bed and move toward the living room, wondering if my cats managed some terrible mayhem.

I see the AC unit on the floor (my apartment has a window air conditioner built into the wall), and a guy's naked torso outside. He apparently sees me too, and a Tommy in his underwear must be a fearsome sight, as he flees.

I dress and decide to hang out in the living room for the remainder of the night while I call the police.

They show up quite quickly, as apparently he's already been inside another apartment tonight. Classy.

So now I guess I will be going in to work late tomorrow, because I want the mounting for my AC fixed before I leave this place. Also I need to figure out how to block off the window in here, they still haven't given us new blinds two weeks after replacing the windows.

Time for a poll?

Who all had someone try to break into your apartment while you slept last night?

What, just me?

Pffft, I am the only one leading a true life of excitement!

    Which is the false premise?

The first premise is assumed to be true in the song.

New hospital update:

After reviewing my finances, they have decided that I really only have to pay them...$15,650.73.

So I can pay $100/month for the next 13 years, I guess.

Hope my truck lasts that long!

Also, I hope I can get them to come down a bit more. The drop was from financial assistance, maybe by scheduling a payment plan or something further reduction can occur.

I'll continue to keep this situation in my prayers. You've got some good observations on your last post that kind of tie in to the hymn lyrics that are on my blog, and also remind me a lot of some of the sentiments found in Gary Henry's book Diligently Seeking God. You can check it out at www.wordpoints.com .
