I'm sitting at work right now....at almost 4 AM....about to go check the IV batch...approximately 3 more hours to go. I'm filling in for a pharmacist on the midnight shift for a few nights. It is very strange to be up when everyone else is sleepin and vice versa. Not as bad as I thought i might be, though.

It's been forever since I've updated, so I'm not really sure what to update on...it's crazy to me how time flies now, and I never have enough of it.
*We bought a house in December. Things are mostly the way I want them, but there are still a few things I can't find or remember where I put them. Really bugs me that I've somehow misplaced a scrapbook! I'm having fun decorating the house-Jonathan probably thinks too much fun some days; he's probably getting tired of hanging things.
*I can't believe I've been out of school almost a year. I still feel like a newbie some days, but I'm getting more comfortable. I really like my job.
*I'm so excited that it is spring! The sunshine is wonderful! I've been enjoying some early morning walks lately. :)
*I went to the National Cornbread Festival in South Pittsburg, TN, last weekend-we had no idea that it was such a big deal. We were limited on time, so we didn't get in the HUGE line for cornbread, but we did what we went for-to look at all the crafts. It was a fun experience. I did get fried dill pickles and homemade ice cream out of the deal.
*We also went to Melting Pot for the first time-incredible!! I especially loved the dessert!! :) I just can't resist chocolate!
*I had fun catching up with the girls at Emily's sleepover! I hope to do more of that soon.
*The girls up here got to enjoy wonderful massages from Kathyrn along with getting to spend some great time together.
*Everyone is having babies it seems-I'm excited for everyone and getting ready to spoil them!!
*I really want to find time to go on a vacation soon!
Thanks, if you made it through all my rambling...I think sometimes a lot of this is more for me than anyone. Maybe one day I'll update more regularly and share something interesting.

One tidbit-if you are into scrapbooking, I'm getting more into the Cricut movement-that machine and its toys are amazing. Now, I need to find time for more scrapbooking....
  • sara
We've got a Cricut too! That's actually what I used to make all those coasters :) I LOVE it! We all need to hang out again sometime soon. Maybe we could sneak lunch to Laura one day. I think we could all use a little girl time.

Hey Kelly. I am feeling better from Tuesday. I don't drink enough fluids and I think I got dehydrated Tuesday. They checked my blood and I'm not anemic which I was worried about because my mom was when she was pregnant but it was perfect. They just told me to drink lots of water and eat more frequently. I'm glad I don't have to go back to work too. I just hope that when next friday comes around that TJ still has a job!!! It's very nerve racking. Hopefully we can hang out soon.

Thanks! I'm so excited for tuesday. I almost texted back because a babysitter was looking impossible to find. As long as Drew and Nikki get better by then (drew has a slight stomach bug we think) then we're good to go. I'm sure Will is going to go either way though :) I ordered them online for the over 21 theater. The other theaters were very scarce and I didn't want to take the chance to see if they'd open up more and let the prive seats get gone so I just ordered those. I don't have any idea what time we'll start heading up to bridge street...we might even go for a late dinner. Regardless, I'll text you in the next day or so and let you know what time we're going!

...

I've been meaning to update for ages, but kept meaning to do it when I could post pictures of graduation and our New York trip. Maybe those will come later. The last few months have been pretty eventful and busy:
*I did interview for the residency, but after some long consideration I decided it wasn't the best route for me. I pulled out of running and accepted a Clinical Pharmacist position at Huntsville Hospital. So far it's been a great decision. :)
*I graduated pharmacy school on May 6th!! Those 4 years went faster than I could have imagined, but it is a wonderful feeling to be completely done. At first I didn't know what to do with myself since I didn't have to study, but I'm finally getting to read for pleasure again-I'm enjoying this Twilight series everyone has been talking about. Also trying to focus on improving myself spiritually and physically.
*To celebrate my graduation and our 2 year anniversary, we spent a week in New York City. it was my first experience flying, which went well. The shuttle drive to our hotel, however, was pretty scary! We splurged and stayed in Time Square. It was an amazing week, but we hardly scratched the surface of that big city! We saw Phantom of the Opera from the second row; absolutely amazing! I would love to go back and see more shows and so many of the different parts of the city that we didn't get to see. I'd also like more time to shop! ;) We were exhausted at the end of the week, but it was definitely worth it!
*After our trip I began studying for my board exams and started training at my new job. I passed my boards and am now a licensed pharmacist. I'm still training (they give you plenty of time to get more comfortable), but I may be on my own in October or November. I'm kinda nervous, but there will never be a point when I'm the only pharmacist in the hospital, so I'll always have someone to get advice when needed. So far I really like my job.
*We extended our lease on our aparment for now, possibly looking to build a house. I hope it works out...we'll see.
That's about all that's been happening with me. I'm definitely enjoying this free time that I have now!
  • deanne
Okay, it looks like Kim has set the date of October 4th for the next day. It will be at her parenats lake house on Smith lake. She has said anyone who wants to come down on Friday night and spend the night there can. I'm going to send her your e-mail address so that she send you details. Hope to see you there!!

#1 came up on my list after that post also. The woman I met at ACCP emailed me last night - makes me think it's a real possibility. Melissa said Erin is nauseous every day and barely eats. She even passed out at work once. I think she's in the 2nd trimester and it's getting a little better. Melissa feels bad 'cause her pregnancy has been rather easy by comparison.

New Update!

Well, shethinks I need an update, and I do. It's been a while!
Things are really awesome! December was abosolutely wonderful! I had the month off, and I enjoyed every second. I tried to work a little, but I didn't try hard enough so I was lazy all month. We enjoyed a wonderful week in Gatlinburg with both sets of parents and stayed in an awesome cabin. I've never been there in December; it was great! We really enjoyed the decorations and the shows at Dollywood. Christmas was exceptional; we are so blessed by all the people in our lives. We got a whole lot more than we deserved! Got to see all the family, which is always great.

Enjoyed a Rook tournament at the Montgomery's house on New Year's. I think Samantha fed us like three nights that weekend! The Rook tournament was great fun, and I've now learned how to play poker-at least somewhat.

What has been really awesome is spending time with the couples from Gooch Lane, along with some of our friends from Athens, too. I'm really excited to be at a congregation with so many great people our age to spend time with! Girls' Movie Night #2 is tomorrow night, and we're going to see 27 Dresses. Hope it is as good as it looks. At least, hopefully we'll leave happy instead of sad as we did from P.S., I Love You. That was a good movie, though.

I've got two workout buddies now-Mama twice a week and Samantha 2-3 times a week. That's helping a lot to know someone is counting on me. Maybe I'll be a bit healthier this year. I gave an inservice this morning to seniors at the Madison County Senior Center (which is very nice if you know someone who could use it, by the way). It was on healthy resolutions and how to set goals. I really enjoyed it, and it made me feel good how much they seemed to appreciate it. Plus, my evaluator said I'm a fantastic speaker! That is so good to hear because I get nervous with those sort of things, and sometimes I have trouble speaking clearly. Just shows if I relax, that I do a better job.

I'm at Rite Aid this month, and I feel like I get to stay at home more than I go anywhere to work, which has been a nice change. Next month will be a shocker, though when I have to be at the hostpital from 8-5 M-F. The next month will be even more of a shock, when I'll need to be there at 4-4:30 AM! I'll get through it, and I graduate in less than 4 months (May 6th, 10 AM!!)!!!

Which also makes me think of my residency interview-it's on Feb. 4th. Keep me in your thoughts; maybe I won't be too nervous! It's a whole day thing, though.

Well, this update went longer than I thought it would be. Hope everyone is doing great!

**UPDATE: Just received an email about graduation invitations and cap & gown!!! It's finally close!!!***

That is funny! PCA is the Popular Culture Association, the big conference in my field each year. I have to work on my abstract a little earlier this year so that I can get my money to go. Luckily, it's just in New Orleans, so it should be cheaper this year. I'm living in Village West, and I really like it so far...with the exception of the car alarm going off all day today. That I could have done without. We'll have to get together one of these times I'm back home! How's Jonathan?
    by cori at 08/14/08 3:42PM

I got to go to the OR!

Thanks to everyone who commented, called, sent cards, or visited when Nanny died. It means so much!
Can't believe how fast time flies now! It's almost Thanksgiving and I'm half way through my rotations!! I do stay busy these days though!
*Since my earlier post, I've had two rotations in pediatrics. I abosolutely loved both!! I'm really hoping to get a pediatric focused residency next year so I can be a clinical specialist. It means another year of hard work, but it will be worth it. :)
*In July I had the cardiology rotation. It was interesting as well. I had the opportunity to go see an open heart surgery, but I was scared with my history of dealing with blood that it wouldn't be such a great idea. I did get to go to the cath lab though, which was really interesting.
*Last month, I was at the hospital basically in general pharmacy. One day though, I got to go the OR to follow the pharmacist down there. She would find me a nurse anesthetist in a surgery, and I got to watch the surgery. I was pretty nervous about it, but I did pretty well. The first surgery I did have a litle trouble, but the other two went fine. I got to see them fixing a little boy's broken arm and replacing a knee. The last surgery was a laproscopic surgery, and they were tying the stomach around the esophagus because the patient had treatment resistant refulx. It was a very exciting day, and I was very excited that I got to do it. Now I wish I had attempted the open heart surgery!! Of course, I probably would have passed out in that one first, too.
*This month I'm at the UAB clinc. I like it so far. I like getting to interact with the patient more. Other than all this, I'm getting all my presentations done and preparing to apply for residencies. I got one of my BIG presentations out of the way, and I have a few more smaller ones and my poster at the end. I'll graduate May 6th!!!! Can't believe it's almost here!
*Jonathan is going to school and keeping some money coming in by working at Walgreens. He was at a horrible store but recently got transferred, so it is much better...for both of us! ;)
*Other than that, we're just trying to enjoy being up here. I'm off in December, so we're going with the parents for few days to Gatlinburg. Really looking forward to seeing the lights up there!! We were able to go to the Montgomery wedding. REALLY loved getting to see everyone again!!
*I chopped off my hair...again. May leave it like this for a while....it's amazing how much lighter it feels. Maybe I'll get a pic up one of these days.
*Guess that's mostly what we're up to...spending time with family and friends when we can and staying busy!
Hope everyone is doing well!

Nanny

Well, I know I haven't posted in months, and it has been a crazy few months. Unforunately, the reason I am posting is to ask for prayers for my family. My Nanny (grandmother) passed away this afternoon. We knew it was coming, and honestly we are relieved that she is no longer suffering. It is a glorious thing to know she is in God's care now, and someday we'll all be together again. Nonetheless, it can be hard for us left on earth. I would really appreciate all of your prayers! She was a great Christian woman who worked hard to take care of her family around her. Her family meant so much to her, and I fully believe she was ready to meet her God.
Thanks,
Kelly
