Improving Ourselves as Students and Teachers of the Bible

Hey all,

Skip Sebree from Greencastle, IN will be giving a series of lessons on improving our study and teaching skills.

April 13-17
7:30 p.m. each night

It will be set up as a class format, so that Skip can interact with us and answer our questions.

The elders (and Skip) want to emphasize that all Christians can benefit from these lessons, not just those currently teaching a Bible class. All of us can benefit from learning how to study God's word more effectively.

A study guide will be provided to go along with the lessons.

If have not received a flyer from me via e-mail, you can go to:

http://www.westbroadchurch.org/events.htm
There you can download a flyer for the meeting.

Hope to see you then!

There is a word of warning, seriously, if your study skills are limited by your inability to pay attention for more than 30 seconds (as is the case for me), then Skip may not be able to help you! Just kidding!

What a shameless plug for our gospel meeting! :) Just kidding. Tommy had mentioned to me about what you were thinking with the men's book club and I thought that was a wonderful idea! I know he is excited about it! I love my book club and I know Tommy wants to read more than he does. He also is almost done with his certification so he will have a little more time for a fun worthwhile pursuit.

Eyeglasses

Today is eyeglasses day.

Joseph gets his eyes examined.

Jessica is ordering new frames, because she lost the first set over Christmas.

Lindsay is getting a check up to see how her glasses are working, and to get an adjustment because they were manhandled by a small child. Hee hee.

Anessa doesn't need glasses yet, thankfully!!!!

But with all of this, I am thankful that God has provided us the funds to pay for our children to get the help they need for their vision. The Brethren at West Broad are very generous.

Anybody have any funny glasses stories? Did you frequently need to get glasses repaired or replaced?

Our boys are always wrestling. Their glasses always get bent out of shape. Most of the time we can fix them at home. One of Bart's lenses always fell out. One time Bart lost his glasses in the grass. It took him about 1/2 hr to find them. We just picked up our boy's new glasses over the weekend. Aaron likes really bold colors so it was hard for me to let him make his own choice. They've kind of grown on me now. Hopefully these new glasses will fare better.

When I was younger I was very trusting and allowed my brother and some friends to lead me around the yard in a human chain with all but the leader having their eyes closed. I was the last unfortunate soul in the chain and they turned, leading me face first into a large tree. My glasses broke right down the middle. I had glasses from a young age and was so thankful when Mom let me get contacts. I am so thankful that the science exists that can provide us with glasses and eye correction. Can you imagine having to go through life with impaired vision? We are truely blessed!

Maleah's glasses came up missing for about a month. My dad finally insisted we go and get her another pair and he would pay for them. Maleah happened to fall out of bed soon after dad's purposal and when she looked up they were hanging inside the lampshade. A certain little sister had put them there! Thanks dad but mystery solved.

Oh, my! I always hated getting glasses! They are so awkward for me! That's why I love my contacts. Funny story? Rex said when I had glasses, I used to crinkle my nose to push my glasses up instead of using my hand. Then he says even since I have my contacts, I still do it. Sometimes I'll even go to push my glasses up, and not have them on. But I think that's what you call senial..

The rest of Mandy's story is that the boy that cut Mable's grass ran over the glasses with the lawn mower and returned all 100 (seemed like that many) pieces to Mable, which then were given to me in an envelope. We were able to take them back to the place of purchase and because of the insurance we recieved a credit on a future purchase. Sure made this Mom thankful for insurance and the Lawn Boy.

I think after us as customers they eliminated that insurance option. Robby's glasses were broken, bent, lensless etc. often. So we got our money's worth in the insurance. The Lsdy that always waited on us in the store wouldn't sell us glasses without insurance. It always paid off.

My favorite is when Sammy comes in from the cold and says "Mama, my glasses are foggy. Please clean them off. of course you can hardly understand him.

I wore corrective lenses since I was 7, glasses then contact when I turned 13. I was one of those people like Velma, from Scooby Doo, where I would have to get on my hands and knees to find my glasses if they fell on certain colored carpeting. In '98 I got the Lasik surgery, paid $4500, and it was worth it, still seeing well 10 years later. I know I've got some funny pics, but hey! it was the 80's!

Confused

This past week, President Obama signed several executive orders.
Two of them specifically really didn't seem to mesh in my small mind.

We cannot waterboard terrorists because that is not how American should do business.

But we can now send taxpayer's money overseas to foreign clinics that perform abortions?

So, paying for infanticide in foreign countries won't harm our image in the world, but interrogating terrorists to stop more attacks will?

Maybe I'm just too simplistic, but that "don't make no sense".

Keep praying, God is in charge, thankfully.

Danny and I have become obsessed with Fox News network, because we are completely shocked at some of the choices he has made....ALREADY!! Obama is already "changing" everything. I can't believe he got to keep his Blackberry.

I honestly don't know why people are so shocked at the choices he's made already, I feel like I was warned plenty ahead of time, and I voted for McCain. I can hope that he will let God guide his footsteps, but Obama's intentions, we will never know until his actions are laid out in front of us.

Yes, thankfully God is in charge, unfortunately not everyone follows that charge.

Joseph and Jessica were baptized!

Hey all,

Tonight Joseph and Jessica (my two oldest) were baptized into Christ. Anna and I are so thankful to God for their hearts that are sensitive to God's will, and it has been wonderful to see their understanding develop concerning their relationship with God.

The brethren at West Broad are such a great encouragement to my kids, and I am thankful that they have been growing up amongst such loving Christians.

Have a great evening!
