Curious how much use Pleonast gets these days?

I like the simpler format of Pleonast -but it seems as though everyone is on FB! I'm getting weary of the crazy on FB though and would like to do more things on this site. I suppose I will just have to float around and see who is still using it!.

I have not joined FB and on the few occasions I've used Vic's I have not liked it. I'm usually on here frequently but we're in Europe right now so I'm not on much.

Bible Study try-out

I am putting together a study for the girls for this fall. Fifteen minute only type of thing. One week of the lessons I'm giving solely to memorization. I'm wondering though if I'm not giving enough time to learn them. The verses are not long, but there are ten of them for the week. I thought I'd put them on here and see if any of you have trouble getting all of these verses memorized in a week's time. :) FYI - I'm starting now even though the girls won't get this as a lesson until a month from now. LOL

1 Thessalonians 5:22
Proverb 23:21
Colossians 3:9
Proverb 27:2
1 Corinthians 15:33
Proverb 1:10
Proverb 6:27, 28
1 Corinthians 6:19. 20
Exodus 23:2a
Proverb 24:1

I'd like to hear your thoughts on it! Thanks! :)

That's a lot to memorize in 1 week. I think that they can do it.

I've just started this with my kids. I am NOT a memorizer, so I tend not to require it of my kids except when absolutely necessary (like multiplication tables). But I thought this was a simple, stress-free way to try to memorize some new verses; it is pretty gentle. You might be able to adapt it to your purposes.

WOW!! That's a lot of verses, Mom.

Thanks Michal! I like the looks of that. We've done various things over the years. When the oldest girls were younger they had verses that were in an ABC list. When they learned most of those I went to verses that focused on a particular trait I wanted them to pick up or get rid of. I like Charlotte Mason - her ideas about Classical learning have been helpful. I much prefer teaching the girls from books than from texts, if possible. I had not explored her memorization method though. Thanks for sharing it!

Haylee- just wait - that's only one week's worth. You are going to learn at least one a week every week all school year! If you can remember the different breeds of American horses you can memorize more verses! LOL

  • brooklyncutie98
Oh! I think Haylee was thinking the same thing as me. That they had to memorize all the verses in one week. Down to the last word. I like the one verse a week. :)

But the memory work is ALL the bible lessons for the week. There isn't any other reading. Come on girls - how many horse club books, kid lawyer, harry potter, etc do you read in a week? And you remember a fair amount of it! You memorize math facts and language skills - you can and SHOULD memorize scripture - it's the whole point to everything! :)

Beginning the moving patterns again

Well - we've been to Arkansas for Dad's surgery. All went well, his joint was very stubborn with many spurs that required the doctor to piece out the ball of the joint rather than just cut it out in one piece. But Dad is recouping nicely with minimal amounts of pain. He is rehabbing while trying not to overdue it.

Now that we are home, it's time to begin all the moving stuff. I have to get the utilities scheduled, truck scheduled, and then begin packing non-essentials. We're going to move some by personal truck loads to alleviate some of the Uhaul load. I don't look forward to the process, but am thankful to have such a nice place to go. We'll see how long it is for.

Praying that I keep my wits about me and keep the girls organized with school stuff during the moving process. Somehow school just gets moved over each year for moving and then we are weeks behind right at the beginning. If I were in Oklahoma I'd just wait and begin after the move - but that will not allow me the required number of school days before the end of June that PA requires.

Off to start a To-DO list.

Yes, I'd miss the lack of regulation here if we moved too! It makes it so much easier. I hope the move goes well!

Looking for a new rent house

I really am tired of moving every year. (sit up straight) But, it must be done - and in this instance, anything to get away from the management company handling the house we are in will be just fine with me. We've found a nice colonial style house that is PERFECT for the girls to play - indoors and out. The ONLY negative with it, is it adds ten minutes to our 40 minute drive to worship services. But there are no houses in the same area we are currently in, so we'll just have to make do.

I will feel so blessed if this house works out. Newer cabinets, new floors, new appliances, walls that are straight, stairs that aren't broken, new windows, central a/c, modern heat, etc - I just won't know what to do with myself. The house will practically keep itself clean since no dust will be able to get in!

We'll see how it goes. I'm sure I'll post again after we've moved -since I don't seem to remember to get on here very often. I really must "pin" it to my tabs.

LOL

Finally getting organized

Well - I'm scared to say it because it might ruin it - but I'm finally getting organized. My desk is clear except for actionable material. My shelves are organized and ready for school to begin. I have almost finished the new poster boards for Caydee -these have the books of the old and new testament on them to aid in learning the books and recognizing the words. I've begun a search for writing and art competitions the girls can enter throughout the year to test out their abilities against other students. I've got six weeks of daily Bible lessons sketched out to do with the girls. I'm almost through "sorting" Proverbs into categories related to a marriage study. I have my calendar filled out, my menus made for the next week, my grocery list printed for tomorrow - it's downright scary! LOL

I've begun attempting to do Flylady again - and teaching it to the girls at the same time. Haylee, Rylee, and Shea all have their own Control Journals. They are doing a wonderful job of checking those in the morning and getting their chores done without reminder from me. We have a pattern set for getting the house clean and it seems to be working well. It ain't perfect - but then a house with this many people in it 24/7 is not likely to be perfectly clean. There's no break in the churning up of dust and stuff! But we've gotten rid of some clutter and have plans for dealing with the rest. Maybe the next move will be a lighter one. The one a year and half from now should be very light - we're thinking about selling most of the furniture and purchasing what we need when we get moved. This will keep the Uhaul from getting so full of heavy things and allow us to get pieces that meet our needs.

Anyway - things are rolling normally for us around here. But with the Lord's help maybe I can keep it from feeling so crazy! Just trying to be a better steward with my time. Next thing on the list - eliminate tv and computer games of any kind until ALL work is done for the day. Try to streamline the use of brain power! We'll see how that goes!

I'd love a copy of your marriage study if you have it on the computer!

I would like a copy of the marriage study also. I strive to be a better steward, but I'm afraid I'm not doing well with that! Thank you for being such a godly example to me. I appreciate it!

Michal and Toni - you both may already have the study - it's The Challenge of Being a Wife by Ruth Hazelwood. I add the Proverbs "sort" as an exercise to see how much instruction and encouragement we are given (it's not limited to Proverbs, it's just where I start since so many of our key verses are there.) If you don't have one - let me know and I'll send you one, I keep extras around just so I can share! :)
