Update

Another eight months has passed since my last update...

Days after my last post my mother passed away--hence the awkward silence from me on Pleo. There never seems to be appropriate words in these situations, so I tend to avoid them. My Dad has had the most difficult time with the adjustment. Hopefully the new year will bring him the fresh start he is looking for and will help him to better adapt to the situation.

When I returned from the funeral, I started my position as an assistant manager at Elavon. I've already moved into managing the funding escalation team. That means I get to deal with really really angry callers. I have a great team of supervisors to manage. It's a difficult job, but I enjoy the fact that it keeps me on my toes. It's slightly stressful not knowing what type of situations that I will face from day to day, but there is a lot of satisfaction derived from the resolution.

In October, we moved into a new apartment...in the same complex. Our basement apartment flooded. Thankfully nothing was ruined that wasn't replaceable. With the help of lots of friends we were able to move into an upstairs apartment the next day. Since the move wasn't anticipated, the boxes were not very organized and it's been a challenge getting everything back in order...but we should be there very soon. We hope to move out of this complex in May when our lease is up...hopefully into a rental home.

Matt just completed his fifth semester of law school--one semester left before graduation. I see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel now. He started an internship in August with an insurance defense firm. They asked him to stay over the winter break and for next semester, so it appears to be a very promising situation. I'm hoping that this turns into a full-time job once graduation arrives. From everything he has described, it seems like a really great place to work.

Those are the major updates of the year. I hope that everyone has a happy and safe holiday season! Hopefully I will be a better blogger in 2011.

Time for my Bi-Annual Update

So, a few things have happened since my last post...

GOOD NEWS

I got the assistant manager promotion I was hoping for. I didn't get it in December, but I did get it this go round. I'm looking forward to starting. I have one more week in my current position to get through first.

I'm looking forward to be a bridesmaid in her wedding this May. Should be lots of fun. Matt and I started dating at close to the same time they did (seven years ago), so I'm glad to see they are getting married now.

We are finally getting washer and dryer hookups in our apartment next week. I'm tired of weightlifting with laundry baskets, so this is very welcome news.

NOT SO GOOD NEWS

Mom did not respond well to the chemo. A couple months ago we found out that the cancer had spread to her lymphnodes and lungs. Her right lung is full of fluid and she is now on hospice care. She is now to the point that she can no longer go to church. She cannot keep down any foods or drinks at all due to severe nausea. Pending approval, hospice is going to put her in the hospital to get re-hydrated with glucose. She would have to be in the hospital about five days because the doctor will need to install an additional port for the glucose. I think this will ease her pain a bit, but I know it's a temporary solution. I think that she is trying to hold on until her 30th wedding anniversary May 16th. Please keep her in your prayers.

My aunt passed away Monday and was buried today. She is my mom's youngest sister and died from complications from pneumonia and lung cancer. She was a Christian as a teenager but has been in the denominational world for the last 30 years or so. This is difficult on my Mom as she pretty much raised her.

So, that's my life right now. It's a bit stressful with everything that's going on, but I try to focus on the positive.

I didn't actually create it. I just found it on Nathan Ward's Facebook, and he didn't create it either. I don't know who did. I hope somebody shows it to Tommy soon though.

Time for another update on life:

I really enjoy my new position. It's amazing how much info people tell his/her manager about his/her life. Really. I know WAY too much about folks' body parts. I'm hoping for a promotion to assistant manager in a month or two. I have to finish my application tonight. Matt says I need to write a cover letter. It's seems a little redundant since I already work there...but I guess it makes sense since there is a place for it on the application. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Mom has another chemo treatment Friday. This is the 3rd round of her new chemo. She gets it once a month. The side effects have been mild for her, but she seems to get weaker with each dosage. We don't forsee her kickin' chemo anytime in the near future. Hopefully, she'll get a pet scan soon so we can find out her status. We are planning on spending a week in Memphis with her this month.

Matt is almost half-way done with law school--just four more exams to go. I'm very happy with the progress. I know that he'll be done soon enough. I'm looking forward to the completion of it all, but I'm a lot more content waiting for him to finish with my management position at work.

Ladies Night Out gift exchange with all the ladies from church tomorrow night. I'm looking forward to the good food and good times. It's funny to see the church ladies "stealing" gifts. Matt is going to jam with some friends and play bluegrass. I guess he deserves a little R&R after all the studying.

So long. I'll update you again in a few months.

Hope you get that management position so folks will quit telling about the positions of their body parts. Keep up the good job of getting that boy through school.

I have some employees that feel the need to tell me every time they have to go to the bathroom and whether it is number one or number two. It's funny what people think their manager wants to know.

Changes

Lots of changes around here:

-Turned another year older and now officially in my mid-twenties. I can stop getting older now.

-Recv'd a promotion. Starting next week I'll be in a management training program. I'm so happy to get off the phones. I'll have my own group of reps that manage and monitor and I'll be able to do everything except officially "fire" people. It should be fun and challenging.

-Mom is changing chemos. The other one has ceased it's effectiveness and they are going to try a different one Friday, if her counts are back to normal. She'll only have to do this one once a month, so hopefully she'll get a few extra "good" days.

-Titans have gone from first to basically worst. So sad. Even the Lions are doing better. ACK.

Enough changes for now. Time to cook some dinner.
