So today is mine and Adam's 8th anniversary. We were married at Adam's parents house at 6:30 pm. Outside...August 10th...it wasn't quite as hot as it could have been, a storm came through about 3 hours before actually, and that cooled everything off. The sunset was beautiful, the ceremony was beautiful (if I do say so myself) and I don't really remember anything else about the day. The reception was a blur. I remembering hurrying through photos, we decided to do pics after the ceremony...wish we hadn't but we didn't know better then. I also remember leaving. The car was an absolute disaster. The guys wrapped the car in syran wrap. There was also shaving cream, vaseline, and cans involved. It was awful. And I was starving when we left. Thankfully, someone packed us a basket of food that we devoured as we took the car through a car wash. HA!!! What a night.

We spent our honeymoon week in West Palm, in a little house with a pool. As soon as we got back, classes started back for both of us. Adam had a semester left at TN Tech, and I had a semester plus student teaching at MTSU. We moved into a brand new, but tiny apartment here in Murfreesboro, and Adam drove 1.5 hours each way to and from school each day. He did that for one semester before he graduated. What were we thinking???

We do have a wedding DVD, we watched it a few months ago. All I can think when I watch it is...who are those kids? We were so young...and skinny =) I think we'll watch it later tonight once the kids are in bed. It's fun to remember the excitement and newness that we felt on that day. So many wonderful memories!

Fast-forward 8 years later. We have lived in our home now for 7.5 years, Adam has been at Nissan almost 8 years. I have been a stay at home mommy for almost 5 years. I was lucky enough to get to quit my job about halfway through my pregnancy with Claire. It's been a good 8 years. Sometimes I wonder what the catch is, ya know. Sometimes it's just a little too perfect.

We spent our anniversary weekend together, with no kiddo's! They stayed with Mimi and Pa for two nights, so it was a very quiet house around here. I really enjoyed just being with Adam, and having no schedule and not having to fix breakfast, lunch, and dinner for everyone. I didn't cook at all for three days, for that matter. It was wonderful. We watched three movies, one at a theater. That's unheard of around here!

So tonight, on our actual anniversary, Adam came home with a very sweet card and a pack of scrapbook paper =) We had leftovers, and then went and had some family pictures taken. Michael's in bed, Claire's playing in her room, and all is good.

Here's to 50 more!!!

Glad you guys had a good weekend and anniversary! I'm also glad that you are in our lives and that we can call you our friends. Hope to see you soon...I hear that the Davenport Hotel always has a vacancy, free baby sitting and cheap rates!

Oh and I'm also glad you guys have a wedding video. We don't and, as much as I hate to watch myself on video, I wish we had made room in the budget for it. Your wedding day goes back so fast and it's nice to sit back years later and watch everything and all the people who were there to share that special day.

This post makes me so happy! :) Your wedding WAS beautiful. It's so nice to have it captured on video, isn't it? I'm glad you guys had it filmed, because it was your video that made me sure that having our video was worth the money - and I'm so thankful we have it! I'm SO glad you guys had such a nice anniversary weekend - sounds really nice!

Glad your anniversary was a good one! We didn't intend to have our wedding on video, but my cousin took it upon herself to record it. So, we have it. I've watched it once. I *hate* watching myself on video so it's kind of painful. But, it's funny too. Apparently I was in a bit of a hurry to walk down the aisle. Both of my parents walked me down and I nearly forgot to drop my mom off at her seat. Oops.

We are adding a room... that will be the kitchen... and the old kitchen/breakfast room will be a combo room - breakfast room one end, dining room/gathering room other end. We are pretty excited - have planned to do this the entire time we have been in this house. Just thought it would always be planning.....but it's looking pretty real right now. A real mess. ;-)

I'm almost 18 weeks. We'll find out what we're having on October 1st - I'm too much of a planner to make it a surprise. :)
Thanks for the tip about the surgery - I remember you mentioning to Carrie that Claire had a sty removed. I'm hoping that I can be there when they put her under and bring her out of it...she already has enough trouble with me leaving under normal circumstances!

The guys in blue were just jogging down the street as if they were walking from lunch back to the office. Not showing like some of the "acts" were.... and completely overlooked the girls. She made it in 2:23. Jamie was about 6 min behind her. I'll have to admit it was fun!!! (Since I was not running, it was fun. Had I been running, I would not be here today to type you a message.)

I can't come up with a catchy title, so I'll just skip it...

So I have been avoiding pleo lately, just because I thought it was taking up too much of my time, but when I really sat down and thought about it fb takes up at least the same if not more time, and I don't really feel like I connect the same with people there as I do on an actual blog. So I am just going to do better about spending my computer time wisely, and maybe blog a little more frequently. I have read most of the blogs that I missed the past few months. Even if I didn't comment, it is so nice to see what everyone has been up to. Lots of changes in so many people's lives.

Not here. We're still a family of four, I'm not pregnant, and life is good. =) I know that seems simplified, but it's just the truth. We have traveled A LOT this summer. We just got back from KY, where we visited Phillip and Tracy (I can't even remember how to link!!!) and their precious new baby girl, Abby. It was a fantastic trip. We also went to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Rosemary Beach, FL. Next up is Alabama to see my sister's family. Busy but fun summer!

Both kids are going to do Mothers Day Out in the fall. It's two days a week for 5 hours a day. I am really looking forward to getting the house in order, catching up on scrapbooking, and other crafty stuff, and staying caught up! Everything is behind right now and I can't stand it!

Michael is 2 1/2 and Claire just turned 4. It's fun around here. THey play really well together, and literally, they are just good fun kids. We spend most days here at home, or at friends houses for playdates. We are blessed with SO many friends, and it just makes these hot summer days a little more bearable.

Adam is now a manager at Nissan. He got promoted in April, so that has been an adjustment to say the least. It's been about an extra hour and a half each day, but still a very good job where he is appreciated and respected, and that's just a huge blessing. And he gets to work with cars... he loves his job.

We are searching for land to build a new house on. We would really like 5ish acres, in the country. That's not the easiest thing to find in the county that we live in. Plus we want to stay close to Adam's job. It's killing us because we have house plans and everything. We got really close to buying 9 acres about a month ago, but flood plains got in the way. YUCK. We had a contract and everything, and we got our house ready to go on the market. So for now, we are happily living in our very clean, decluttered, and updated house.

August is going to be a month for me to get back on a schedule with weekly meal preps, scheduling time to do things for others, and visit much neglected family. I operate so much better with a calendar in front of me and a to-do list right beside it. I'm lost without those things, and lately, we have just been flying by the seat of our pants on many things. It's fun sometimes, but I LOVE a schedule...

I am signed up for coed softball again! That's fun. Although my legs don't think the running part is fun! I plan to do some running before the season starts this year, though, so I'm sure that'll help! So if anyone is still reading my blog...what do you have planned for the fall? What has your summer been like? Ciao!

  • simon_says
If I had 10 hours a week with no kid or husband at home, I'd choose sleep over anything else. But you're probably past that stage...

I'm still reading...or, rather, hovering and waiting for something to read! :) I'm going to have two days a week this fall with just the boys at home- I hardly know what to do with myself! What will I do when they are all in school?!

I'm glad you're going to blog more - I miss reading them!
Congratulations to Adam on his promotion - bummer about longer hours, but it's wonderful to have a job you like and where you are recognized!
Good luck on your land search - that sounds so exciting!! Maybe you could find some land up here in Oregon. ;) Oh wait, you wanted to be near Adam's job. hm - I'll try to figure that one out and get back to you!

New Entry button, hello old friend. It's been awhile.

So September has come and gone, and I have been a horrible blogger! Since my last post about our trip to San Antonio, my grandfather who lived there passed away. It was not unexpected, but that doesn't even make the whole process any easier. I went down for the Memorial service by myself a few weeks back. That was weird. No kids, no husband, no responsibilities. Adam worked from home for a few days so I could go. I ended up getting a really horrible stomach virus while I was there, but I was better by the time for the memorial, so that was what counted.

What else...what else...Christmas was wonderful. THe kids were so very excited about Santa this year, Claire and Michael still talk about Christmastime. It really was a good one this year. I have some really fun pictures, but I'm just not in the Christmas posting mood right now. Maybe in a few months...

So this week Adam is working at the Nissan HQ doing some training so it's a extra long couple of days for us. On weeks like this, I need projects to keep me accountable, and to help me be productive. Here is what I've been working on. It's our upstairs bathroom. It has been halfway decorated for a few years now, so with some Christmas money, I picked up a few things at Hob Lob and finished it up yesterday. It's nothing spectacular, but it feels finished now...except for the shower curtain, and some embroidering on my towels.
Also, last night I put up an Uppercase Living clock that I won off a friends blog. She sells it, and was doing a giveaway. I never win anything, so I'm pretty excited. I really love it. It's too low, but that's my fault...I'm not exactly a precise decorator. You should see all the holes in the wall behind the black shelves in the bathroom. BAD. I don't really believe in measuring tapes...Adam can't stand it.

PhotobucketSo anyway, the clock looks great in the bonus room. This room needs some help anyway, but I don't think there's any hope for it. Too much junk, not enough closet space.
THE GREAT SNOWFALL OF 2010!!! Schools were closed...the day before this!
We sledded??? down the driveway. It has a slight incline, it was almost like real sledding.
PhotobucketReally, all they wanted to do was eat the snow.
The weather last week was really mild, so we enjoyed the deck.
PhotobucketAnd the swingset
So far, it's been a crazy January, but I expect Feb to slow down. We are in the middle of a study in James, with some of the 'married with kids' and younger married couples at church. I'm teaching the first and second graders, Adam's off this quarter. The kids are crazy. They love each other so much. I remember people always telling me 'just wait till they're a little older and they can play together and be friends'...well, we're there. And it's wonderful. They don't know what to do without each other. Claire is really enjoying school, and Michael would love to stay there with her. Through most of the school day, Claire goes into the older kids room, to do activities with them. Yeah, that's a proud mom bragging on her smart daughter...indulge me =) She has made some good friends at school, and talks about all the 5-year olds, like they are the coolest ever. It's hilariuos. Michael is a stinker. And he knows it. He'll be TWO YEARS OLD in March. Unbelievable. My boy is a daddy's boy all the way. THere is noone in the world that holds a candle to his daddy in his eyes. It's wonderful. Ok, maybe if I can keep posting my next one won't be forever long. =)
  • snickers63
Good to hear from you again!! Feels good to have a room done... or almost done. We are starting over in the hall bath because of the tub leak. Will keep it the way it looks pretty much - but the popcorn ceiling will GO, and the tub has to go... so the whole bathroom will pretty much be a mess. Maybe I can goad K into putting up the towel racks and that room will be DONE. Finito. After we make the mess. :-p

Great job on the post! Maybe I'll get around to mine soon... So sorry about your grandfather--I know he was very dear to you. That's really nice that Adam could work from home. I love the clock! You are so very creative and have such good taste (well that's what Adam says anyway). The kids are getting way too big! I hope we can slow down enough to get the kids together again... between Dr visits and all they don't seem to get to be kids as much as I would like. Addie had an 'event' yesterday morning. Not sure if it was a seizure or not. It was different than all the others and there was NO fever.

San Antonio, 2009

The Riverwalk
If you've never been to San Antonio, it's a great place to visit...fun, fun, fun. These were some of the sights from the boat ride we went on going down the river. This was my 4th (maybe) time to do the boat ride, but it's enjoyable every time!
The Kiddie Park
This park is just the right size for the kids. Claire was pretty bored with most of the rides, actually, but it was still fun. Weird thing is is that they had to close down a few months ago because a child was thrown from a little rollercoaster. Now huge "UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT" signs are hanging everywhere and the rollercoaster is dismantled!
Bath Time With the Giant Duck
At my Anut Sharon and Uncle Jim's house. If you ask Claire what her favorite part of Texas vacation was, she'll tell you it was bath time with the duckie...and thanks to Sharon and Pawpaw for singing the rubber duckie song. (Hi Sharon ;))!!!!
Enchanted Rock
Wonderful wonderful wonderful! What an enjoyable day!
Heading up. We went all the way to the top of that rock!!!
Ready to toss M over the edge!
Adam found Michael's favorite thing to do...
The two bravest ones of the bunch, me and Pa!
We ran into some long time friends coming down the rock. They were heading up, and we were finishing. It's a small small world, huh!
The Real Reason We Went
My dad's dad (Grandpa) is 94 years young. He thoroughly enjoyed watching the kids play at his feet. He lives with my dad's sister and her husband. He still reads the paper every morning, with his breakfast, and is always interested in what the interest rates are doing =).
This was Adam's parents first time to San Antonio, we enjoyed all the time we got to spend with them. My dad came also, so the kiddo's had plenty of grandparents to play with on this trip.
  • shelbysmom
Glad you had a good time. What great pictures!! I miss all you guys!! Can't wait to see you in a couple of weeks...but we need to set up some time for the kiddos to play!

When we went to Disney World many years ago, we rounded a corner and nearly ran into our Kroger's produce manager and his family. We all just stopped and looked at each other for a second, and then of course did the "it's a small world" thing (which has extra meaning in Disney World). :-)

Well,it definitely needed to be done. And I am definitely glad to have it done. Think we will put the things back right now without flooring.... just to get them out of the middle of the living room... until we decide WHAT we are going to do in the bathroom. And yes, it feels good to have that job behind me, although what I had planned on doing this week was making Ems a skirt.
    by snickers63 at 01/22/10 8:41PM

My kids are growing up. I know, it's a good thing. But, still!

They're so BIG! Michael is 18 months old. Into EVERYTHING. Climbing on everything. Saying everything. Last night at supper, Adam said, "Who wants to say the prayer?" Michael said "I do." "Dear God" and then he looked at Adam with the most proud, happy, sweet face you've ever seen. I'm so thankful for such wonderful, happy healthy children.

Claire is 3 1/2. This girl is her mommy made over. Seriously, we look alike, act alike and enjoy most of the same things. She LOVES to "craft" (that can be cutting and glueing paper, making cards-she suggests that we make cards for people on her own-or stamping). She will help me clean anything, fold towels, and could spend a whole day exploring the outdoors, just like me. And if you ask Adam, she can be a bit moody at times...just like me.

Michael watching Cars, us enjoying that he's using the headphones.
Ever since the day he was born, people told me that he looks like a "little man" . I agree!
I didn't know it was wet out this morning, so we just enjoyed suckers while sitting in some chairs instead of the driveway. Of course, they can't both take a decent picture at the same time!
I tried to get a good smile, but this is what we get. A forced smile. Just like her dad, she can't pose for a picture!
Serious about her sucker!
Of course he can't just sit on his bottom! This kid scares me to death.
So big. So sweet.
Life is good, huh.
  • lindseymarie
Wow! Adorable! They are getting so big! I am getting over Claire not crawling around, but I still keep thinking of Michael as the little baby I held.

Oh. how. sweet. love, love Claire's outfit in those pictures. And Michael's shirt - I had totally forgotten about that! How funny!! M looks like he has a fresh haircut, and that makes him look even more like a little man.

I went through all the girls' clothes this past week, and I needed to say a big THANK YOU again for passing down all of Claire's things from last year. They fit Livie perfectly, and are so much cuter than what we had. I ended up getting rid of a ton of old stuff, and stocking her closet with a totally new wardrobe! It was so fun!!

Thanks for the sweetest comment ever. It made my day. Even if it's not totally true, it was a nice boost that was much needed ;). Love you...

You need to invest in some bricks to put on their little heads. Too big! :)
