Question 11-18-08 09:40pm CST
In Alabama, licensed ministers can perform weddings. Do preachers in churches of Christ generally hold some sort of legal state license that allows them to perform weddings? I have a friend who preaches out of state that I plan to have perform my wedding, and want to make sure he legally can in Alabama. I know some of you are or descended from preacher-folk, so if you have any info, please share it. Thanks!
hooseI think you just need to have a "licensed" preacher. In my experience, most coC preachers do have these licenses... it usually helps with getting into hospitals, prisons, etc. And of course in doing weddings. I'm also pretty sure that it doesn't matter what state that person obtained their license, I think it's good anywhere in the US. But I'm not certain of any of that, so I guess I'm really not much help.
callmehandsI just did my first wedding in Texas and I'm not a licensed minister. I think it depends on the county where the wedding is held. That particular county in Texas told us that they do not check credentials. Good luck with that!

msnbc is conducting an online poll regarding whether or not our currency should say "in God we trust"

also, i could use your prayers. i've been experiencing some pretty debilitating anxiety/panic attacks/ocd, mostly related to health concerns. (you might not be too far off if you called me a hypochondriac.) if you are so inclined, please ask God to take this burden from me, and that if He does not, that I may be joyful in this trial and that my faith may increase and I may learn whatever lesson He is trying to teach me. I really need help maintaining the right attitude during this difficult time.

thanks.

God is good.
jeeunnyI'll be praying for plan B or an avalanche of Joy :)
