Meal Planning for next week
Lying around in close proximity to a full box of Kleenex ... which will not remain full for long. :(
Maybe I'll find some Zicam at CVS ...
Also, please pray for Baby Mackenna this morning, and for the surgeons working on her, and for her family.
I've never been an Oprah watcher, really. Something in her manner irritates me A LOT. Even living in Chicago, I've never really been tempted to try and see her show taped, etc.
This person cracks me up, though. She decided, for a year, to take all of the advice that Oprah gives on her show. If Oprah says buy it, she buys it. If Oprah says read it, she reads it. If Oprah says do it, she does it.
She's keeping a blog about how all of that affects her life, as well as a running tab of how much all of this costs her. It's pretty entertaining - if you have some time to kill, go kill it over there. You'll like it, I promise. :)
interesting, I will have to ck it out! the only time I watch her is when Dr. Oz is on really, sometimes I catch something that will peak me, but I cannot stand how she interupts when ppl are talking.
I must check out this blog...sounds amazing. I personally have this aversion to Martha Stewart...anyone who think she can get away with such an oblique allusion as, "oh, just like a Dutch painting" is far too removed from the real world in my opinion.
This presidential debate makes me want to go back to school to be a debate coach. Cause I could teach JUNIOR HIGH KIDS to debate better than these yahoos are.
At least, I could teach junior high kids to actually respond to the questions they're asked, rather than parroting what they've memorized whether it's relevant to the question asked or not.
But, they are offering some awfully tasty koolaid ...
EDIT: At least I'm not "green behind the ears" ... PLEASE tell me he did that on purpose ...
they were debating which was more watched: WWF or The West Wing (TWW was the most popular show at the time) and their best point was "WWF is on 4 channels in our dorm, we don't get TWW". Compared to all the other debates, it was great to hear people debate about....nothing. :)
(t) i hate politics. bleh. the debate was on our tv for a few minutes and it inspired me to go put away the folded laundry and load the dishwasher...so maybe it's good for something...
I am about to turn it off I am so annoyed. I can't believe O had the gall to stand up there and say "we have a REAL morality crisis when we are allowing people to die from genocide blah blah blah...". EXCUSE ME?! And you let abortions happen... ???
it must have been laundry and kitchen night!! :D i actually STAYED HOME all day and got a ton done. i was so close to finishing i just had to work in the evening, too!! woohoo!
It drove me crazy too - they just kept saying the same things - most of us could have recited their arguments for them. I didn't expect to be so bored!
I was SOOOO annoyed with both candidates. I watched the whole thing, I guess I felt like I needed to suffere some sort of penence...
but going over the time limit, not answering the questions, interrupting each other, pointing fingers and just rambling on and on...
Don't come to our house if you haven't already gotten the crud that's been going around. People from church are excluded from that, b/c if you haven't gotten it yet, you're not going to. But we got it. :( Or, at least, Matt did. I've been feeling yucky - we'll see if my immune system is in any better shape than his.
Sorry! Hope you all feel better soon ... I talked to Matt for a minute this afternoon and thought he didn't sound good ... I'm glad to know there was a physical reason! :-)
I've spent the morning shopping online. First, I reserved us a place to stay in Gatlinburg. It's outside of Gatlinburg a little (Sevierville), but close enough. Looks fantastic, though!
Then, I got my official grown-up card. I went online to homedepot.com ... and ordered a new oven, to be delivered to my house next week. Our credit cards are going to go crazy!!! We put the funeral expenses on a credit card earlier this week, put half the payment for the cabin we reserved, and now a new oven on the credit card, too!! We pay it off each month, but ... still! This is more action than my credit card's seen in a while!
And the really sad part is ... it makes me a little uneasy. What happened to the carefree girl who LOVED spending money? Where did this new person come from, who's nervous about spending???
At what point did you know you were really, truly a grown-up?
Well, I get worried about spending money..but then somehow when I check my bank statement online there are all these transactions....
I just don't understand..
I think when LJ and I went out for our anniversary last weekend. It felt so nice. We haven't been able to do it in a LONG time. We didn't want to go home!
Last year, Kim and I decided to break down and buy a membership to Sam's. Later on when we were practically skipping hand in hand up the parking lot to the door, I knew no child would ever be excited over something so lame. It was then that I realized I was an adult because 5 years ago, I would have totally made fun of the excited-to-get-a-Sam's Club-membership-and-buy-things-in-bulk version of myself.
Fall break is the 9 and 10 combined with the weekend of 11 and 12 so i will be gone Thursday the 9 through sunday the 12. Making full use of my vacation time :)
NICE! I hope you like it there. We spent 5 nights there on our honeymoon. Being right down the street from the Applewood is a big bonus. We ate there breakfast, lunch, and dinner. :) What dates are you going?
When I became a stay at home mother changed my spending, now saving and not carelessly spending. If we don't pay cash or have a coupon we don't do it. No credit cards for us. Enjoy your trip it is so beautiful--remember the apple barn, seriously!!!
OH one more thing they don't have strawberry jam at the apple barn to eat with your biscuits---just an FYI--my husband got the weirdest look when he asked for strawberry at the apple barn--LOL
DEFINITELY NOT until my first child was born. I did not know what I was thinking! I am a strange one who doesn't really enjoy shopping too much-- EXCEPT at Home Depot! I love doing house stuff and upgrades. We only do them when we have the cash so it's not all the time. BUT, I JUST got done grouting the new tile in our bathroom about 20 minutes ago! I really enjoy it. That is kinda weird, I think. My husband spent his evening writing songs. We are obviously made for eachother! ;) ENJOY your new stove! How nice!
you've gotta drive Cades Cove up in Smokey Mountain National Park. Tons of wildlife (I'm talking deer 2 feet away from the car and bears further away) and lots of history. It's really cool. Website: http://www.cadescove.net/auto_tour.html
Yep, I agree with doing Cades Cove, although it can get pretty crowded. It's still very worth it. Also do the Roaring Forks motor trail. We saw bears on that one! Go to Clingman's Dome. If you're up for a little climb, the view would be awesome in the fall. I've only seen it in the summer time. If the Apple Barn is crowded, there is the same restaurant with different name in Gatlinburg called Applewood Farmhouse. It's one of my all-time favorite restaurants. I'm so jealous of you getting to go! We went for our honeymoon and then we went again last year with Drew and Tabitha (Priest).
If you like barbeque, Bennett's Barbeque is good. They also have a good breakfast buffet. Oh, I almost forgot. We drove on te Blue Ridge Parkway. Pack up a picnic lunch and go for a drive. We drove from it's starting point to Asheville, NC. That took about four hours, but it was such a pretty drive! We took a picnic lunch with us. There's tons of little picnic areas with gorgeous views there. While in Asheville, you could visit the Biltmore Estate. I am convinced, though, that Asheville is in denial it's in the south. You can make a quick trip back to Sevierville via the interstate from Asheville. Just plan on driving a lot, if that's what you like to do. There's plenty of pretty things to see just by driving around. Word of warning: the traffic there is pretty heavy. If you're driving down the Parkway and you plan to go long distances, get in the center lane. It will get you where you're going the fastest. Okay, that's all I can think of to recommend right now. You're going to have such a great time! Once again, I'm jealous!
I knew I was grown up when I got engaged at age 29 and my parents declined to help pay for the expenses because I was past that "age". Whatever that age is...I am guessing it is 29!!! HAHAHA
