I like the look on Rafa's face in this...

Also, I don't know if I got something in my eyes, or nature attacked me in just the right way that allergies (which I really don't have) have come to dominate my eyes.

They burns, precious.

and they are watering and I am cranky.

ugh.

mister_cMan Don King just looks scarey.
lefantstafthat picture makes me so happy.
whipsmileme too
scbrewermine burn today too. I'm not totally sure why.
mill2093And the winner is... Don King. Wait, they aren't boxing.
mjintexasHow can you be cranky with a picture like that staring you in the face?
shellmanDoes this mean that all of the other players at the US Open had better lay down so the Apple Grapple (which sounds like a wonderful dessert) can proceed as planned?
whipsmilegood point!
madtomkiddSo, are you so messed up with allergies your personifying your eyes and calling them "precious"? Hmm? Are you, Smeagol? (^_^)
holly_annmy nose is running and I'm cranky. :( stupid nature.
fullofgracephotoshop yourself over don king and you have a keeper in that picture...
clarinet_jenMy allergies have been horrible lately...I even had to deal with an asthma attack last night.
clarinet_jenmy thoughts exactly.
clarinet_jenHis name is Jim, and it's all happened VERY fast. We went out a couple of weeks ago, then last Friday and yesterday. He's someone I've known for a long time. Last night we decided to make it official.
clarinet_jenI would have to agree with you. Some of the teachers have said I can't stop smiling...they're right. You'll have to meet him!
clarinet_jenok! Hopefully he will start going to church with me soon!
clarinet_jenWho am I telling this to...the kids? Their parents? Pleo? You must specify!!

Happy Birfday, big bro!!!

Annnnnd:
That time of year again!
US Open starts today!

I want this poster so, so much.

Photobucket
mjintexasI thought of you this morning as there was a discussion on NPR about Federer.
clarinet_jenYay for the US Open!
mill2093What about the FedEx cup?
wifeletIt's been relatively cool here, too ... apparently my internal thermostat is just jacked up ... :)
holly_annThat has you written all over it. Nadal kind of looks like he's about to bite Federer's nose off though.
jrayeah, I'm crazy. It was the 24th - yesterday.
nickomundoCan't find any posters, but the t-shirts are cool.

I should be hit in the head for my lack of gratitude 08-22-08 09:39am CST
I think my job might be too easy for me.
I kind of feel as I did in elementary school. I am bored because I am not being challenged.

This is not me trying to sound like a braggart, but I am slightly concerned.

I am also rather concerend that I might not sound grateful and thankful that I have a job in my field. I am SO thankful for that, and I understand that not everyone is as fortunate as I am.

Am I not being content in my life? Am I not being grateful enough?

probably. I need to just shut up.

...

...

...Or perhaps get a challenging hobby.

Or...go back to school? (Come on Mom...you knew I would return some day. It's just niether one of us thought it would be this soon.)

I am thinking about taking a night class here and there and get an AA in a foreign language. Learning a new language has NEVER been easy for me. So that is one thing I am thinking about doing.

Or maybe go for another masters, get a PhD...or go a totally different route.

I have a few more things on my mind as options.

For years I have talked about learning to play the guitar. Unfortuntely, I believe I need instruction on that. I am not doing a very good job at teaching myself.

Or maybe take art classes at night.

I don't know. I just need...more.

More stimulation.
More challenge.

I am scared that my mind is beginning to dull. I need to sharpen it.

I need a whetstone for my mind.

holly_annYeah, I would fill up my non-work time with more challenging things. Unless you really want a new career, in which case I say go for it.

I like your foreign language idea. I've been dying to study Italian but I'm always too chicken to commit. Guitar, too. That's on my list.
mill2093Sudoku!
nickomundoI think you mean whetstone. But that was a good way of illustrating your point. ;^)
tommyswifeI understand, I go through phases! Be thankful and grateful, but never settle. We are just visitors on this earth.
tommyswifeI want to go to law school, maybe in another time and season of my life.
mister_cI am actually getting kind of excited about the fact that I am going back to get my Master's. And I know you too well to think that you will actually EVER let your mind get dull.
mister_cForget taking some kind of class, you should TEACH some kind of class.
kellymckibkibi vote for night art class. :) but i totally understand how you feel, my job is in my field but is mostly skilled grunt work, its my artmaking part of my career that keeps me very challenged.
bigdeborahI suggest learning sign language :) you can use it with ppl here in the US, instead of just just a few times in your life when you go to a foreign country :)
bigdeborahI don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to be more challenged. You seem grateful for your job but also ready and willing to take on more challenges as they come up. I think that's a great quality.
bigdeborahof course, I know many languages are used in the US...I'll just stop there instead of opening a can of worms. :) After going to Italy, I thought it would be fun to learn their language. My fave greeting was not 'ciao' but 'ch-ciao' and the voice inflection that accompanies it :)
mister_cIn January
kregGo to med school! That's what I wanna do!!
madtomkiddA great way to learn guitar is to just ransack tab sites and practice playing them slowly.
kellymckibkibi am a studio tech, meaning I make everything run, fix broken things, and fire all the ceramics pieces at a community clay center. I also teach classes, but i've been teaching now for 6 years and its feeling a bit mundane (except when i get a difficult or really good student) The other half of my time is spent making artwork to sell and exhibit.
mamahastingsJust remember how stressed you were, looking for a job. Your present position may then become a little more interesting. :)
clarinet_jenI'm all about furthering one's knowledge. I know that once I get my masters in music, I'll probably end up taking classes at COD on foreign language or go back and get anothe teaching endorsement in math or reading. And I can always help you with guitar if you'd like.
DessertDivaSeattle winters are rainy. After October it's hit or miss until June or July. Pretty mild, though, except Dec-Feb are chilly. You're welcome any time :) I think Bill was going to come out here in October...come together or come separate. I'm down with anything!
mini_lizziei started sewing and embroidering again! that has worked for me. also cooking and baking. :)

thanks for playing along 08-21-08 09:03am CST
Lauren - When will you come visit me?
I will probably come and visit on Sept. 7th. By that time you should have a little girl for me to meet!!!

Dan- What do you think is the most pressing problem in america these days?
Normally I would say something about public education, but I feel at this juncture I must say the loss of Hank. I miss him. ;-)

Angel- If you could do only one thing today, what would it be?
On a grand scale? Stalk Roger Federer. On a more realistic scale? Spend time with Alex. (ewwwwwww.)

Jamie- I'll play along. When are you coming to visit? :)
I have been thinking about this, and I think I am going to try to set money aside for next Spring...unless, what are the winters like in Seattle?

Suzy- When are you coming to visit? :)
Good question. I should look into that.

Emily - If you could only wear ONE outfit for the rest of your life, like lots of comic book characters do, what would it be?
T-shirt, hoodie, capris and flip flops. Can I mix up the jewlery?

Miriam- If you could visit me in San Antonio, what would you like to do? :)
Go hiking somewhere.

Nick- Mac or PC?
Mac!

Dafne - who are you?
Practically: I am Jessi
Exostentially: I am everyone and everything, as we are all connected.

Craig - Are you Markinson?
What? I, I don't think so...am I?

Lyndie - If you had a super power, what would it be?
To majically transport myself anywhere I wanted to be by a single thought.

Holly- How do you feel about bunnies?
I am in favor of them. I have one, which you know, because you met him. But I am NOT in favor of killer bunnies like in Monty Python and the Search of the Holy Grail or 6 foot, evil looking bunnies like in Donnie Darko. But I like 7 foot bunnies named Harvey.

And - If you had the opportunity to date Roger Federer, would you?
Absolutely.

Lauren - And would you dump Alex to do it (date Roger), or would you figure he'd understand? :)
Alex and I have discussed this... Roger Federer is the only person that he would graciously bow down for. I will do the same for him for Anna Ivanovic.

Steven - What jelly goes best with PB?
I am just going to have to go with my favorite jelly ever, that tastes good in all jelly situations: Blackberry.

Angela - if you had totally made up your mind that you wanted cork floors, but your husband doesnt get it, how would you convince him that the environmentally friendly option of beautiful cork is a way better option than anything else?
Knock him out, put it in and don't tell him it's cork.

Josh - If you had to make the choice, would you give up wearing flip flops or listening to The Clash?
Good question. Playing my loves against each other. I would say that I would give up wearing flip-flops. Ultimately , there are other types of foot apperal. Despite what anyone else says, there is no other band like The Clash.

Faye - Do you have any pictures of the drawings you did on your wall downstairs that your parents? I would love to see those again.
Sadly, no. That was fleeting art that was not preserved.

Deb What's the one thing Jamie (having never been to Chicago before) needs to see/do?
Depends on what he is most passioante about.
Art? Science? Sports? Food? Architecture? Shopping?

bigdeborahoooo...answering a question with a question...you're sly. ;) hmmm...not art, sports (unless it has to do with dirt bikes or ATVs), or shopping. I'll gladly accept more than one answer.
whipsmileYes, I can be very Socratic.
probablyreadingFeel free to mix up the jewelry. I'm a huge earring fan myself. :)
mamahastingsMmmmm, blackberry jelly. I want a biscuit now.
mjintexasI thoroughly enjoyed this post. :)
wifeletI should definitely have a baby girl for you to meet! The question is whether I will be back at church by then. :) I hope.
holly_annHave you ever played the game Killer Bunnies? It's kind of funny sometimes.
tommyswifeAre you not glad that you do not have to give up flip flops? I love those things!!!
mister_cMaybe we can kill monsters and collect shiney things tomorrow?
mill2093Well, I had an advantage of a good paying job while working. In addition, I had a fair amount of scholarships and parents that paid for about 25% of the initial cost. For most of my time in school, I had no need of a loan. With my signing bonus, I figured it was time to get rid of the loan.

She is now the same age as me! 08-20-08 08:48am CST
No more old jokes from Angela.
Today is her birthday and we are both 29!

Woohoo!

Now until April 20, when I turn 30, she can't make fun of my age. :-)

Give her well wishes on her birthday/day off.
