Sharon forwarded to you an e-mail regarding the Ing family so you are probably aware and may have already helped in some way. There is some other fund raising going on but I wanted to focus a bit and help with a couple of specific needs. I spoke with Steven Deaton and am working to fill a couple of specific needs detailed below. Everyone of you knows of situations to help with and I am confident the each of you helps whenever you can. This is just another opportunity to help but one that has touched me deeply. So here we go.
1) Mr. Ing (Paul) wishes to funeral expenses and arrangements taken care of ahead of time so that his family does not have to deal with this later.
2) I would like to enable this father to spend as much time as possible with his son. In order to be able to take unpaid leave, he must be able to replace his weekly income (very modest) and will be responsible for his insurance during that time (absolutely critical).
My goal is to raise $20,000 to cover these expenses through the rest of the year (4 months). I will be happy to break down the math for anyone who is interested and will personally visit (near Louisville, KY) to deliver and help with arrangements (if needed). This should be VERY do-able.
This is simply an opportunity to help someone personally and to know we made a difference for this family. If you can help in any amount or know someone else who would like to, please read below and contact me at your convenience.
The "Sam" spoken about in the article was one of my former students this past year in Auburn.
Such a special boy, and a sweet family. The article below is a good tribute to Kaylee, but also
speaks of her unique bond with her special brother. Here's some pictures of Sam & Kaylee.
Kaylee Marie Allison (8/5/98 - 8/5/08), 10, had a way with her little brother like no one else
Five-year-old Sam is autistic and very shy, their uncle Tim Speaks said.
“When Sam gets around people, he gets kind of funny,” Speaks said. “But he was very comfortable
with her. She could sit down with him and connect with him. He would concentrate, listen to her
and obey her. It was a special connection.”
Like eye contact and hugging.
“He didn’t hug anybody but her,” he said. “He knew she was his sister. He knew she loved him.
She was like a second mother to him.”
And laughter.
“She could make him laugh when the kid doesn’t laugh,” Speaks said.
Kaylee Marie also brought out the bravery in the little boy.
“He would go into a room he normally would not have if she was in there,” Speaks added. “He’d
tug on her hand to go outside.”
Tuesday, his sister said goodbye.
The oldest daughter of Rodney and Tammy Allison, of Auburn, Kaylee Marie died early Tuesday,
the morning of her 10th birthday.
Kaylee Marie showed symptoms of an unknown illness for less than a day before her death.
She moved to the Auburn area with her parents two years ago, Speaks said. Her parents didn’t even have a
regular physician for her because she never got sick. “All of this happened with a healthy girl,” he said.
When she came down with a stomach ache Sunday, her parents played it safe and took her to the doctor
Monday. The doctor sent them home, saying she probably had a stomach virus, Speaks said.
Later that night, she felt worse and started fainting, so her parents called 911.
“It happened from her walking into her parents’ bedroom at 11 o’clock to 2 o’clock, she was
dead,” Speaks said. “That’s how quick it happened. That’s why it’s a mystery to us.”
Kaylee Marie loved people, athletics, Auburn football and her belief in God.
“She was a strong Christian,” Speaks said of his niece, a member of First Baptist Church of
Opelika. “She lived her faith. People could see Jesus in her.”
Preliminary autopsy results indicate she did not die of a contagious disease, according
to a statement released Wednesday by Lee County Coroner Bill Harris. Further tests are being
done to determine the cause of death.
“Rumors have been rampant concerning the case, but the State Medical Examiner assured me
there is no contagious disease that caused her death,” Harris said in the statement.
John Atkinson, spokesman for East Alabama Medical Center, where Kaylee Marie died, said to
his knowledge, there is no connection between her death and any other recent deaths or
current illnesses in the area.
The family simply wants to know why, Speaks said.
“The thing that hurts so much is it was so quick,” he said. “She was a great girl and touched
a lot of lives.”
Kaylee Marie was heavily involved in gymnastics and swimming, but “she lived for Auburn
football,” Speaks said.
Sitting in the family’s upper deck perch, she proudly wore her Auburn jerseys to each home game.
Described as an all-A student, she would have started the fifth grade at Ogletree Elementary
School in Auburn next week.
“She was smarter than all of us,” Speaks said.
Kaylee Marie’s sudden death has taken a toll on the family.
“I was in the room with her when she died,” Speaks said. “One thing I remember most were the
doctor... and nurses in the emergency room. They were all so emotional. It was a touching moment.”
Speaks will never forget the last three words his niece said to him.
That is so sad, and scary. That will definitely make me listen and take note more when one of my kids say that they have a stomach ache. I hope they are able to find out what the cause was.
that is horribly heartbreaking. please keep me updated, and i know i dont live there but it there is anything the family needs other than prayers PLEASE let me know.
Thanks for posting this. I'm sure your heart must be heavy for the family, and especially for the little boy. I admire your desire to work with these special young children.
Congrats! That's so awesome! You're so awesome! I'm going to miss you so much...and I don't even see you that often. Just knowing you're on the other side of the country makes me miss you. *sigh* Wish we could've seen each other. Have a great day of "lasts" tomorrow! Praying for you!
not a problem...there are a few hotels off of i5 at the hwy 58 and 46 junctions (the 58 comes first and about 15 miles later is the 46)...i don't know how safe they are though...otherwise another option would be to actually find a place to stay in bakersfield and then jump on the 5 from there...but let me know if i can help you further!
Rode my NEW FAVORITE coaster, "Firehawk" (picture 1), where you lay down so you end up "flying" on your stomach. SWEET! NOTICE THE "Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Say No Evil, Smell No Evil" poses! (Other coaster poses in the album!)
Picture 2 is the "Xtreme Flyer" the fourofus paid only $5 to ride (where you pull the rip cord & dive 153 feet or 17 stories at speeds up to 60mph, before it turns into a big swing! :o)
This is a video of Corey & Meagan doing the "Xtreme Flyer"...sorry the videography isn't great, it was me!
(They wouldn't let us use the camera until after we had gone so I didn't get one of when "Brave Dave" (haha) had to pull the rip cord for our turn!)
tonya, jamilo and i did that flyer thing... it was pretty fun... oh and my adventure i was speaking of on facebook, is finding a new job and moving! :)
Loved the pictures! Isn't it crazy how cold it can be there?!!! The first time I was in S.F. was in the late 60's and all I remember was seeing hippies that were high on drugs in this big park there.
His sister, Jenny, was my FC roommate. I never really knew Corey, except from pictures, but his eyes look like hers and I knew his wife's name was Megan. Have fun! If you see Jenny, tell her hi!
No fun about your knee! Yes, you can definitely still join. I'm not being particularly picky about what kind of exercise, and we already have a couple people with special medical conditions. The only specification is that it has to be "designated workout time" and not just house cleaning, mowing the lawn, etc. :) I'll send you an email and an invite to the group!
Ahhh!! I am so sorry! I had a really crazy day with the kids and other family, so I am just now getting on here for a few...I have a homemaking day with some women at church all day tomorrow starting at 9am. Grr.....That really stinks that you are so close...yet so far away!!!!
Looks like you've been having a fun summer! So...is the decision made as to where you are going to teach this fall??? I was wondering what you thought of JCPS! Best of luck, Laura!
hey! so sorry, I just checked my pleonast...ugh...been a little busy lately...I guess you made it out there. if you have any questions feel free to message me and if you want send me an e-mail or call me. I'd be happy to help :)
The concert was amazing...such a talented singer! After about an hour backstage, she finally
came in & we got to meet her! I had her sign her solo album CD :o)
More importantly, this day & everyday, give thanks for our loving Savior
who sacrificed himself so that we can have a Hope in this life of Eternal
Salvation with our Father. Without this Hope, our life on this earth is futile.
We need to bow our heads every day in remembrance and reverence of
our Lord. Let us now go out there and be busy about the Lord's work with
our hands bloody. (Jeremiah 48:10)
Fireworks!!! Don't ya just love 'em??? Even in Auburn, the time
with friends & family watching something as
somehow-"magical" as fireworks was amazing.
The weather couldn't have been better!
Now off to study some more! T-57 HOURS!?!?! ::PANIC::
We flew into Calgary and worshiped with the congregation there both services on Sunday then drove north to Edmonton. Gerald was working in Fort Saskatchewn and we stayed in Sherwood Park and shopped in Edmonton.
OK, I just watched that video of the yoddling girl from below...I was at work when you posted it, so I hadn't watched it yet. That is INSANE!!! Wow! Like, my jaw dropped. That girl has got to find a job somewhere doing that for a living. :)
i can't remember when i posted about CA--I may not have answered on your most recent post, so you may not have seen it. it is below the 7-01 post. would you be living in SF proper or a surrounding town? The only way I would want to live IN SF is if I was in walking distance of most places I had to go. Then I think it would be fun for a short time. I'm not really a 'city girl' so I wouldn't want to make a long term commitment to that. That's just me, but those are some things to think about.
