Well...today I am homesick. Well maybe I should say Tampa/homesick....I miss my old school, I miss walking down the halls and knowing at least 5 students, I miss old students coming into my classroom asking how my summer was or how many times I went to Disney this past summer (only 4 times if you wanna know), I miss my home-girl Kristen Broecker (a TON!!!), I miss other schoolbuddies....I miss starting school early enough to see the sunrise on the way to work.
...and then I WAY miss my home Disney World! Mickey/Disney stuff is up all over in my classroom and it hit me...I can't add to my decor by going over to Orlando anytime ol' time I want to.
...but I am WAY excited to start a new school w/ some new school buddies!!!!!
strangely, I know how you feel. I got a little homesick on my way back yesterday afternoon! I hope it gets easier for you and I hope your day was great!
Why is change so hard? It means giving up an old part of yourself that wasn't necessarily bad in the first place, but was meaningful...and allowing yourself to cling on to something new. And sometimes...that is really really hard. We'll make it through this new school year together! It was good to talk to you.
I KNOW!! Any time there is a major life change, I feel like it takes forever for me to get used to it. Hang in there....you will acclimate before you realize it--and then one day you'll visit Tampa and notice that it doesn't quite feel like home anymore. Hard for now...I'll keep you in mind :)
Change is hard, especially when we are changing from soemthing that wasn't bad to leave. But...God shows us that change can make us better and stronger! Goodluck with your new school year, just think NEXT school year you will have old students coming into your room asking how your summer was! And these kids will be alot more fascinated with the amoutn of times you've been to Disney!
It is hard. But soon you will make so many new close friends that you will feel so blessed to have friends all over the world. Trust me, I learned this 2 years ago when we moved to Illinois.
Hi Laura! Of course I remember you and Ross! I'm glad to catch back up! Give him a big hug for me. Glad to know things are going really well for you and that I was RIGHT! (kidding- haha!)
Because God wants you to grow from it. I miss you here too! Like Kristin T said, you'll soon be developing relationship with your students. You rocked here, and I know you are going to rock even more there. You've got your boy to support you and we are supporting you here.
I thought Ross was the real Mickey Mouse? He so loveable and cuddlable. Hang in there Gustav is maybe heading your way and it will feel like Fl. I got to meet your mom on line she and your dad sound like wonderful Christians.
I'm glad your 2nd day of teaching at your new school went better than the first day....see? It just takes time & some adjustment. You've got to remember why/who it is you moved for...makes it all worth while!
Good luck with starting all new. I'm with you on the change thing. We've been in Bowling Green 15 monthes now and I'm just getting used to the change. I know it's pretty pathetic. :) Good luck. I know your students will love you.
Well..not much to add ...sides that I'm busy w/ getting things prepared for school. And let me just tell you...Texas School's are way hard-core...and I mean WAY! That's all I'm gonna say.
I will say this about Texas though....the people here (and I mean Texans in general...like even those I don't know) are very friendly and they just...smile more! I could walk into Kroger and everyone I walk past either smiles, or says "morn'" or "howdy" (with which I do NOT respond w/ howdy). At my new school everyone there is so friendly!!!!! I am teaching at a HUGE school...3400 kids...uh...that's a LOT! And so that means they need a lot of teachers!...and pretty much every teacher that sees me, stops, smiles, and puts out their arm/hand to shake it and says, "Hi! Are you new here? Welcome! I'm ..." I feel more at home here than I did at my last school in 3 years!

On a personal note: Ross and I are LOVIN' being so close to each other! I feel so spoiled when I get to see him for an odd numbered amount of days every two weeks instead of two months! Yes...I still miss my dear friends, and family...the palm trees, the Tampa Bay breeze and of course DISNEY...but I LOVE being able to go to dinner w/ him, cook dinner for him, go get ice cream, sit next to him at church, drive w/ him in his truck, just do those things...that some would say are 'boring' but to me are special moments because they are spent with him!!!! love you babe!
i'm so glad you seem to be adjusting well. Glad you like Texas. I have to agree, people here are just naturally more friendly :) Glad you get to see Ross more. how are you liking your apt?
Oh I'm so happy you are liking the atmosphere at your school. That sounds more like Wiregrass. I can't believe we've already had a day off. I missed you tonight at church to talk to about the first days of work. =(
I love love loved it!!! I can't wait to come back. sadly we had to leave early due to Fay and so I didn't get to go to Epcot. I guess that means I will just have to go back soon...haha. Thanks for all your help
I for one am sooooooo happy that you are happy!! A great job, a great guy, and a great church family to worship with....doesn't get much better than that!!! Maybe I should think about bringing my great hawk husband to the great state of Texas since you, my 2 sisters, & 3 nieces are there. Don't tempt me too much! I'm looking forward to seeing you next Saturday in TEXAS!!! I promise not to get off the plane and say "Howdy". :)
One thing that I still can't get over is how big the HIGH SCHOOL football stadiums are! My goodness, they look like college/pro stadiums. Random people buy 'season' tickets to go to games and they don't even have children at the school!!
Well they say everything is BIGGER IN TEXAS. I am so happy you are loving it there and especially being able to see Ross more. My husband and I would love to move there too. With the housing market being what it is we will just have to wait. We are winter TEXANS maybe we will get the chance to meet we are planning to come in Dec. Lord willing. We have many friends in Harlingen, San Antonio, Austin, and now Crosby. The only problem when we actually move is where in Texas. Love the warm weather and friendly people. I think everyones heart is bigger in Texas. Gota love it!
Well You're so tan they may think you are Spanish now, chica!!! Just remember..."No hablo espanol. Yo soy la profesora mejor de esta escuela. Ciao."
That said...I don't speak Spanish. I am the best teacher at this school. Bye.
That's what I have felt every time I turn the television on to watch the 2008 Olympics! Allow me to elaborate:
* first I watched Phelps BARELY win his 7th Olympic Gold...I mean isn't he just amazing!!!!!! What a gift he has!!!!
* this morning I watched women's Badminton...and I ask you...how is that an Olympic game? ...and they're sweating!
* then...I watched Taylor Phinney from Boulder, CO who is only 18, cycle...and I thought WOW!!!! how are those men doing that? then they told the story about him and his parents who are ALSO medalists from Olympics past...amazing!
* and right now I'm watching Women's Rowing...whoa....those girls are buff!!!!!! and what an endurance race!!!
....what sport do you think is the most intense? And by that I mean requires the most intense training? And let's be honest...Table Tennis most certainly is not!
...I would say...swimming...but maybe it's running...no I mean...rowing...ah!!! it's all so crazy!!! Amazing..
i love eating junk food and then sitting down on the couch to watch really in-shape people perform in the olympics. ;) i was almost out of breath after watching that last phelps race!
I would say the marathoners are the most intense. We watched one tonight and it was insane - they are in so much pain and you can see it on their faces. They run 26 miles at a 5 minute/mile pace. I can't even do that pace for one mile.
I'm going to have to say gymnastics are pretty rough... Have you ever looked at the rips in those girls hands?? And those apparatus' are not very forgiving. But the marathon wears me out!!
Hey -- Tim and I watched badminton live at the Atlanta Olympics (they were the only tickets we could get at such a late notice), and it actually is fun to watch... LIVE. I agree, on TV, it is not exciting.
I've not watched much of the Olympics....did watch the Obama/McCain question/answer session with Rick Warren tho. See my post & tell me what you think!!
So this weekend I spent a lot of time in the car....I drove to Tyler, TX and got to see my cousins, and little ADORABLE Clara Lee!!! Then Saturday I drove to Shreveport, LA to spend time w/ my SWEETIE!!! We went boating, had a picnic on the lake, had sushi for dinner, and worshiped w/ some great Christians!! ...but then sadly I had to leave this afternoon.
Now...on my drive back to College Station I took the WAYYYYYYYYYYY back roads....and saw the most beautiful country I have seen in a long time. God is so creative, masterful, and awesome!!!!! And I also saw about 10 Church of Christs buildings on the way too. Isn't it amazing to think that there could be hundreds of fellow brothers and sisters out there that we don't know now...but will one day have singing next to us in Heaven!
Glad you had a safe & spiritually edifying weekend! I'm getting ready to pick up your dad from the airport. I missed him & am ready for him to come home! Worshipping without him by my side is definitely different. I miss holding his hand during prayers. I Love ya La!
