so mel had her birthday last week the same day as a little girl who's mom works with us. we had a little party for them at lunch time. we ate turkey wraps and cupcakes! it was super fun...
here are some pics....
the two birthday girl's and thomas.
my grandma also came and she held thomas most of the day.
oh yeah, i also was asked by a local coffee shop owner if she can buy and sell my cupcakes at her shop! that is super exciting. i'll be meeting with her soon to figure out the details! should be fun! :)
hope everyone has a great week! that's all i have for you now.
Super cute! That would be awesome about the cupcakes! Did you watch "Throw Down with Bobby Flay" this week? He challenged a girl in California who owns a cupcake shop & used to be in an all girls punk rock band. She made amazingly moist red velvet cupcakes w/a cream cheese frosting. Her recipe is on the page i linked. Bobby made (dry) gingerbread cupcakes with carmelized mango buttercream. I DVRed it!
Ha ha! I have the same deal with Bradley. :-) I make him clean all of that stuff out. I think the janitors at school have been cleaning their vacuums or something in my room and I keep finding balls of hair!!! The first time I found one I jumped like it was a spider and ran away. :-)
Playing v-ball with you is one of my favorite memories from FC. My other two years of V-ball there never could compare to that first year with you, Becky, Melaine, Rachel, & Sarah.
want to know how i know? because after changing a RUN FLAT tire that was flat (run flat means it isn't supposed to go flat), my spare was flat too. well wasn't flat but was low. too low to drive. so as i was waiting at a circle k around the corner from my work after slaving away and changing a flat tire in heels, in the humid heat of our monsoon season, i angrily waited for my mom to bring me a portable compressor. did you catch that at circle k? yes, their air compressor wasn't working so i got to sit and wait for my mom to bring me a portable compressor. so around 5.30 my mom shows up (i get off work at 4 so you know a time frame) drove home slowly and pulled in to have my gas light go off! haha at least i made it home.
and on to our bible study. :)
and to get gas this morning. :)
and to have the hole fixed in my tire as apparently i was lucky enough to have a screw go through my tire instead of just hanging out in the rubber. :( (i do think the more expensive your tire, the more trouble you'll have)
but i did have to smile this morning as i was just about to round the corner to get to work i saw a kid jammin out to a portable cd player. i didn't even know they made them anymore! it made me smile.
and i smiled knowing i am wearing blue suede shoes.
I would love to see those shoes! Sorry for all the trouble. Ryan's parents just bought a new car and part of the deal they got was because it needed new tires. Apparently they had no idea that the tires were so expensive. I think Ryan said the cheapest ones they could find were $140 a tire. I guess the tires are really wide or something. Bummer!
You would be good friends with my oldest daughter Emma. Her first word was "shoes" and it's what she wants to try on whenever we go shopping. Sorry about the tire fiasco. Maybe the rest of the week will go better.
I hear ya with the car issues! If it's not our car, it's the truck.. and then the car again. Sorry for your flat. What shoes were you wearing when you changed them? :) I agree with the marriage/kids conversations being outlawed.
LOVE the picture! You are too cute! Sounds like the warranty thing has really paid off! I usually am skeptical about warranties but it sounds like yours has more than paid off!
Oh, poor Liz. Rich did a record breaking flat change on I-17 on the median in the summer on our old VW. First of all, it is illegal to be on the median, but we couldn't get over to the shoulder. Second, we were almost late for the opening of Empire Strikes Back!!! I guess that just aged me, eh? Love the shoes!! The girls and I often see clothes and comment that they look like you. :o)
where in the world are all the gentlemen in Arizona!!?
and yeah i guess you have a good point about the scorpions & such, i don't think i want to trade!
Hey, since your a red-head and have been in the red-headed section. Two people came up to me today while I was out and said "You need to send those girls to the red-headed section" Kaylie response to that was: "But Mommy, I don't wanna go to the headed section"..haha!
oh, I'm not skimping on food... i have a banana with peanut butter when i wake up, then oatmeal after the workout. i've just had lighter meals b/c i've been drinking a lot of water and haven't been that hungry. i'm hoping the extra weight is retained water (since i've been drinking so much) and new muscle. we'll see. :)
we just received a call from the bossman chris davidson who, as you all well know, has been battling cancer for the past year. his reports showed today that all of the cancer is out of his body. the doctor's say this doesn't mean it won't come back but it buys him some more time with his family! he will still be going through chemo just not such an aggressive dosage to maintain his current state.
Just because I have been married four years and will be 28 next week does not mean I should be having babies yet. As a matter of fact, Melanie said the waiting was good! Glad to know I won't be the only one biting people's heads off when they start asking. I'm telling you..one day I will just punch them!
I have had these very thoughts expressed on here. If I were single still, I would be absolutely happy with things. I like the freedom and possiblities that singledom brings.
Well, I'm not married, so in marital senses I am still single. :-)
But even if I were married, I still don't know if I would be ready for a baby.
liz - i want to encourage you the OTHER way. totatly on your time. not other peoples! I am glad you are waiting to find someone just right. Don't rush things. Rushing never gets you into good places, expecially whith relationships. So. KUDOS to you for NOT rushing into things. You will be happier single than in a miserable relationship that you are "stuck" in. Trust me. I speak from experiance!!!!
dude. i'm getting married in november, and less than a year ago, i thought i would never get married. we have said we're waiting a loooooong time for kids. so i know the clock is ticking, and i don't care. i'll have them when i want!!!
and that's what i scream at people when they ask. :) or, i say, "hey, i'll have them if you want to raise them." :)
Too many people get married too early in life. They think they have found "the one" and they better move quickly or else they will never have that opportunity again. This just shows that you are not one of the lemmings that jump blindly off of the "marriage cliff" and you should be honored for it! Trust me when I say that, one day, you will be greatly rewarded for your wisdom and clarity on the issue. As a matter of fact, when you look at all the couples who got married early on in life, fighting over silly things, making the marriage miserable for both parties, in a way, you ARE being rewarded for NOT being that silly. So, good for you!
I'll be in Cali for Thanksgiving and probably not again until next Spring/Summer. My sister catches the same grief and she's only 24 (although some of it comes from me because she bugs me for another niece/nephew and I've told her I'll do that when she gives me a niece/nephew.)
Ha..it is family that can be the worst. I think my mom finally got it. I was so lucky that my dad was telling me to take my time choosing a spouse. He kept telling me there are worse things than being single and that he would rather me be single forever than marry the wrong person! At that point, I at least felt like one person was on my side. :-)
Honestly I think it is very rude for people to ask questions about being married and when you're having children. The only people desisions like that effect are you, sure others may be affected a little but it should always be up to you. It is no one elses business! I'm sorry people are so rude.
A movie you should watch is "Definitely, maybe" with Ryan Reynolds. I like what it says about a lot of things. There is one part in the beginning that you'll have to excuse, but you'll know what that is when you see it.
GOOD FOR YOU!!! enjoy your "single-ness" -- and don't even worry -- you've got PLENTY of time for "other stuff"! I didn't get married til i was 26 and had my first child when i was 29...there is no deadline!
Everyone's right. There's no deadline! Do what's right for you. For the record, you will always be asked questions. Once you're dating, you'll be asked when the engagement is coming. Engaged, when the wedding is coming. Married, when you'll have the first baby. Pregnant, what the gender is, what the name is, and obnoxious comments about your size and the way you look. Most of the time, I try to give people a "free card" and think, "They are just trying to make conversation." Or, "They have no idea they are coming off super rude/nosey!"
While we're venting, I'd like to add to my last comment. The worst comments and questions came when we had a miscarriage. The "my story is worse than yours" type of comments sting the most. The ones that make me feel horrible for even mentioning that I lost the 3 month old baby I had been carrying. What comfort do women think they are bringing when they say things like "Oh, I had 4 miscarriages and I was still able to have children." I agree, I really wish people thought about the way they were coming off before they opened their mouths!
if you are continuing on with this song, you are either a new kids on the block fan or you were sitting with me at the baseball game yesterday.
yes.
i played hookie and went with my mom and grandma to the baseball game and sat in the redheaded section and before the game started they seriously played step by step. i know that the new kids are coming out with some new stuff for a reunion tour but why not play that? why did they have to play the electronic version of step by step circa 1990?! it almost made me sad i didn't have on my acid washed denim jacket covered in NKOTB buttons with my round t-shirt clip making it just the right bit of scrunched so all you can see are their faces on my t-shirt that matches my buttons! don't forget the pegged pleated jeans that i am sure i was wearing too! even had big bangs and a side pony tail and i am sure i was sporting my electric youth perfume. i was the coolest kid around!
next round, let's discuss hypercolor?! anyone remember that?
well anyway, i need to discuss the most awesome experience an 89 year old woman can have. so we are at the game (an hour early mind you) and are hanging out when low and behold darrin sutton (the announcer for the d-backs on tv) comes out to visit us in the redheaded section and sign autographs before the game started. we had our hot dogs and chicken fingers and were about to eat when my mom got crazy and asked him if he would come down and talk to my grandma as she was going to be 90, was a redhead (for 62 years she told everyone, although i think a good 30 of it was from a bottle), and is in the softball hall of fame. withough hesitation he came down and talked to my grandma for a good 5-10 minutes. it was amazing! it made her day. i think it was super cool that he took the time away from everyone else and paid attention to only my grandma. she was beaming the rest of the day (despite when she was sleeping during the game). i must say, i have a bunch of respect for someone in that industry that will take the time out for the little people. :)
here they are.......
p.s. here are today's shoes, so far they are the favorites.
I had no idea there is a redhead section at Chase Field! Is it there every game or just yesterday's? Love the shoes! I can't wait to see tomorrow's pair.
how cool of him to do that! and yes, of course I remember hypercolor. can't remember if i was cool enough to have a shirt, but i think both my brothers did. LOVE the shoes...have you found a certain brand that are anywhere near comfy?
Wow! This post is cracking me up. Did you know I was walking through Dillards about a year ago and NKOTB came on over the speakers? I stopped and then hummed along as I walked out. Somewhere I still have all the stuff because Toby kept telling me it would be worth something. Now when they come back we will still be cool and I can just pull out my old buttons. Ha ha! Love that about your Grandma. I am sure she was very excited. We are going to the D-backs game on Saturday and I am super excited. :-)
Hypercolor. I remember they were only one color in the hot phoenix summer. Kind of defeated the purpose of paying too much for a t-shirt.
Some gals and I tried to get tickets to the NKOTB concert(s) here in Chicago. They sold out. Yes, TWO, count them, TWO, NKOTB concerts sold out. i don't know what this world is coming to, either.
Hey thanks! I love the books. I really only buy them for the kids because thats all I can afford to do, but they have some really great books that I want to get for my classroom as well!
I almost always miss the opening ceremonies but was at my mom and dad's last night and they were watching them. The little boy was hurt during the earthquake and when he was rescued, he went on to save two more of the kids in class. (He was at school when it happened.) Almost all of the kids in his class died in the earthquake. He was asked why he went on to help save his classmates and he said because he was the class leader and that was his job!
ok, so back in...idk...1990 or so, i was student teaching and took some of my girls to see NKOTB...don't get me wrong, i am a CONCERT LOVER, but i have never heard loud like the screaming i heard that night -- it's so different from loud music -- THAT i can take, but the ear-piercing screams of teeny boppers almost did me in! it was a great show though!
