Don't get me wrong, I would love the opportunity to teach her the gospel and save her soul (Bill too), but Hillary Clinton's speech last night was simply nauseating.
Is it because I've always voted for the Republican candidate?
Is it because she is so far away from the principles of God's word that I so strongly believe in?
What turns me off the most is the seeming insincerity and largely self-promoting purpose in what she says. She wants to be the President soooo bad she would do anything to secure the nomination.
What a contrast with an interview I saw this morning with Mike Huckabee. It was obvious to me that he clearly spoke his convictions. His honesty and candor impressed me.
I don't remember who it was, but I recall hearing of a gospel preacher who would write to each U.S. president and offer to study the bible with them at "their" house. I don't believe any of them ever took him up on the offer. So, you might give it a try.
Started a meeting with Ralph Walker yesterday. He's doing an excellent job preaching and we are enjoying having him in our home. And how encouraging it was to have roughly 50 college students at our home last night for more study and singing.
Hey Tony I really liked the alternative perspective on the book of Acts! It was different but very motivating.. keep up the good work and tell the webmaster to post more sermons. I hope the meeting goes great and God bless
Mid-August in Auburn is better than January 1. Besides, it's cold in January and I prefer hot (okay, warm). Over 20 new young faces have begun worshiping with us and excitement is in the air. Our attendance was over 170 Sunday and the singing reflected the larger fall attendance.
And coinciding with my hard-earned, largely-deserved award today, I would be amiss if I did not mention that Auburn football is just 12 days away and that's a big part of the excitement around here. Again, a new season is better than any celebration on January 1 (unless Auburn wins a bowl game that day). Tiger Walk for the first game will be packed, an awesome tradition. The Eagle should fly (weather permitting) and a raucous 88,000 will cheer wildly for the beloved Tigers. And in 2008, we have zero losses, and we intend to keep it that way...War Eagle!!
And two more sports items:
1 -- Olympics = Awesome!! Phelps is now in my top 5 athletes of all time category. And Usain Bolt is aptly named. That guy is indeed the fastest human on the planet. He broke the world record in the 100 meters despite coasting for the last 20 meters!! If he wasn't into the style points so much, he might have recorded an insane 9.50 time or less!
2 -- Sheli began her volleyball season with her new school, Lee-Scott Academy, with some exhibition games Saturday!! The team has a lot of potential and Sheli had more kills and blocks than she has ever had before. Playing middle for the first time ever and getting more net time is one reason for that, but still, I enjoy watching her dig the most. It's her specialty. And I will savor every moment of this, her senior season. Watching her play the sport she loves with such determination has been a great thrill for me.
"Slight Interest?" I have devoted my blog to Gold Medals throughout the games! - - ^ Please Alan. That would mean we would have to look at him. Didn't I tell you that!
thank you. i was looking at vines last night and will be looking at other dictionaries tonight. i need help with the greek stuff. if nothing else, i'm glad we got each other thinking.
I know, it's really not fair to compare Michael Phelps to guys like you and Kris. You perform spiritually at that level and do it for more than 2 weeks. Phelps get's paid a little :) more, and while I'm amazed and inspired by his accomplishments, I am more so by the work of guys like you and Kris. God Bless you Brother!
I heard one of the announcers say that he ran the 100m in 3 fewer strides than his next closest competitor...to have that kind of speed period (not to mention the fact that he has that speed and is 6'5") is indeed a God-given gift.
Glad it's an exciting time there for you all. We're enjoying the Olympics, too. No wonder some of those guys do so well sprinting..Have you noticed how long their legs are??? We love Phelps, too. Seems like a nice guy. Not sure if you all watch the gymnastics or not, but that's been rather exciting as well.
waiting on Marc Hinds now. I haven't heard an update from him in a while. They are scanned into digital format but they are not yet transferred to the file format that Hinds & I want for better searching capabilities. He probablly needs some help but the software is expensive.
Sheri and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary with a first-ever visit to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and then a quick walk through IKEA in Atlanta. The New York strip I had was one of the best steaks I've ever had, even beating out a filet at Bern's in Tampa a few months back. I know this, she looks way too good and way too young to have 20 years of marriage behind her. (I wish I could say the same for me!) Anyway, it's been a great day. And, we got back in time for me to play softball with the guys and we had a five run last inning to win 16-15 and break our 4 game losing streak.
Happy Anniversary!!! I didn't remember that your anniversary was the day before Chris and Lori's. It doesn't seem right that you've been married for 20 years, but it doesn't seem right that Chris and Lori have been 15 either ( or that I've been married 38!! I love Ruth's Chris and especially IKEA!!!
The coaches preseason football poll has been released. Auburn is probably a legit #11 (the new offense will have to prove itself). The amazing thing is 4 SEC teams in the top 11, 5 SEC teams in the top 25 and 4 more that received votes including Alabama and South Carolina who were the top two teams not to make the top 25.
The Big Twelve placed 5 in the top 14 and the Big Ten somehow placed 5 in the top 25, but the depth of the SEC is amazing. One notable factor has contributed to the SEC's rise in recent years: some of the best head coaches in the game coach in the SEC.
If this post doesn't leave you smiling like it does me, read last night's post below...
well, one of the members down here is close friends with Ricky Carmicheal, maybe we can hook you up with a chance at that 30 foot jump. Ricky lives near T'hassee, FL & his best friend married one of our former members. Ask Kevin & Jess about it.
two things...make that three.. more sermons like last night's and I will have to retire my sandals and buy so steel toed boots...thanks I needed it. You are a wonderful preacher!!! Jesse looked at me as you were talking about Superman and said...we really shouldn't be talking about superman here....I guess he listens more than I give him credit for....and lastly WAR EAGLE!!!! My honey would want me to say go dawgs and since he is the best husband ever I will say it in lower case :)
It looks like the numbers speak for themselves...The Big 12 takes the top conference spot, followed by the SEC, and (as much as it pains me to say it) the Lame 11...er, big 10.
Contingent on the quarterback play, Auburn looks to be very good this year. They have about 3 games that will be a real challenge. I think that this is Auburn's year to do well, and they better take advantage of it, because looking at their recruiting class last year and this year, they are going to be struggling in the near future.
