This morning I let the kids sleep a few minutes later than normal. So here is a time-line of our morning. Feel free to try this at your own house!
6:36 a.m. - Wake the kids up.
6:40 a.m. - Ian comes walking into the living room and plops down beside me on the couch.
6:45 a.m. - Maddie walks out of her bedroom fully dressed and informs me that she slept in her clothes. Nice!
6:58 a.m. - Ian asks if the bus has already come. I say "probably" , at which point he runs over to the door and sees that the bus has not yet come.
6:59 a.m. - Maddie asks if she can catch the bus and then proceeds to run through the house, grabbing her backpack and a snack.
7:00 a.m. - After seeing Maddie out the door, I go to find Ian to tell him that we will leave in a few minutes to drive him to school. He is sitting in the middle of his bedroom floor, somehow fully dressed, putting on his tennies.
7:01 a.m. - We run to the kitchen, stuff his binder into the backpack along with his snack and run to the door. Still no bus! Ian runs out the door as we hear the bus coming down the street.
7:02 a.m. - Mom is left in a peaceful house.

I was hit by a ever so slight cleaning bug last night. I have had a pile of homeless cookbooks sitting on my kitchen counter for over a month now. They are all grilling cookbooks that Stacy drug out when he was cooking on his new smoker for the 4th of July. Not sure where they came from, but they had no where to go. So I decided to clean out one of the lower cabinets that I thought was just filled with empty boxes. I know, I know - why do I keep empty boxes? Because when you have a history of packing up and moving cross country every few years, having the original packaging for delicate items can come in handy. So I got that cabinet cleaned out but uncovered a few things that needed to be put somewhere else. So I moved on to the two cabinets in my island. What did I find? Not one, but two George Foreman grills. Why? I have no idea. I know that she gave me one a few years ago, but I have no idea where the other one came from. Really. Not a clue. Anyone in Auburn want a Foreman grill before I take them to Goodwill?
Other oddities I found:
- a Walmart with several bag of Easter sweet-tarts
- 2 boxes from cordless phones
- Blues' Clues cupcake liners
- Halloween treat bags and cupcake liners
- 4 vinyl tablecloths
- several rolls of streamers
Is there some sort of party that I forgot about?
What odd things are you hiding in your kitchen cabinets? |

The kids are puppy sitting this week for these two puppies. Everything has gone fine until this morning. It has been raining here since yesterday afternoon and the puppies' pen is now a mud pit. They were very eager to escape from Maddie this morning. She got them fed but couldn't get them to stay in the pen. Luckily she had their leashes on so they couldn't escape from her. I finally went out on the front porch to look for her and heard her yelling from down the street. Ian and I took off running! We got down there and she was in tears because she couldn't get them to stay in the pen while she got out. Ian helped her wrestle them in there.
Everyone came home, washed up, changed into school clothes and still managed to catch the bus.

In case you do not have the pleasure of going to worship services with Ian on a weekly basis, you might not know that this boy likes to wear a suit. He ALWAYS wears one on Sundays, and most Wednesday nights he will beg me to wear one until I cave in. He went through a stage when he was about 4 when he would only wear button up shirts whenever he left the house. No t-shirts, no polo shirts - just short sleeve button up shirts. He has been a trend setter for a while now.
Anyway - the other day we were at Sears looking for school clothes when Ian wanders over to look at the ties. Really. He comes running over with this blue bowtie in his hand. Please mom, please. Of course I caved in.
So if you need any fashion tips, just come ask Ian.
