The first day. 08-19-08 09:15am EST
The first day went pretty well. I think I may have been a little too nice. Its a fine line between being mean and getting my point across in a firm fashion. My SIL volunteered in my room all day and she told my mom that I was nice but I got my point across. I took that as being too nice.

I have a good class. I only had 15 yesterday. Very nice. I have never been in a classroom with less than 25, so 15 felt very nice. That is not to say that these little children do not need training. Because they do. Lots of it. It seems that there is something about 5 year olds that causes them to think that I am not talking to them, I must be addressing the rest of the class. For example, when I say, "stay in your seat" "Don't talk while other people are talking" "Raise your hand and wait to be called on" " When the book opens, your mouth closes" (you get the idea)they seem to think that I wasn't talking to them, because they just keep doing everything that I said not to do. We'll have to fix that.

And then there is my screamer. Yes, a screamer. I usually expect a few tears in the morning, but I didn't have that. I had a screamer. This little boy not only speaks no English, he acts as though he has never even heard it. He screamed ALL day. Ask my sister in law, she was there. The other kids were sitting in my room with their fingers in their ears. The principal heard him at the buses and asked about him. I informed her that he had done that all day. She looked shocked. But, he did. It was all day. She said he may need to have a modified school day. So, we'll see how his day goes on Wednesday.

The good new was that thanks to tropical storm Fay, we don't have school today. Yay! The weather is currently a bit overcast. (Very threatening) Hopefully we'll get some rain this afternoon, that would be good for napping. In celebration of our "Florida snow day", we will be having a pajama day at my house. The kids and I all showered last night, so we will be wearing our PJs all day. Kenny still has to work...sorry.

So, today I get to regroup, do some planning for the my lessons for the rest of the week, and wear pajamas. Tomorrow will be back to my 4:45 wake up call. Ugh. I'll keep my fingers crossed for another tropical storm. I won't hope for a Hurricane, just a tropical storm. A day off for some rain and wind is very nice.
beckylboyerI saw this morning that the main storm hit south of you. Glad for that and your "snow day"!
spike427yay for a bad weather day!
yikes on the screamer!
the_earlysPJ day sounds good! I need to plan for the rest of the week. Bleck!
green_gourmetMorgan told me about the screamer. You are right, 5 year olds are challenging anyway(cute, but challenging). But, having a screamer on top of everything else... that has got to be bad. Sorry! I hope he starts to do better SOON and that you get all of our kids good and trained quickly:)
mini_lizziesounds like the first day went ok! it is a shock to be away from parents that long at that age. are you all day or half?
ktembryAll day!
lydiasmotherHow fun!!!! My sister always has a bunch of her children in her class that don't speak english, I don't know how that can work, but it all does, it is amazing what they learn so fast. Interesting screamer, can you imagine if he does that at home when he is upset or something irratating? Yikes. He will get better hopefully soon.
mjintexasGlad that you have a mostly decent clas. :)

And wow on the screamer.
mjintexasand by clas, I mean class.
mellymcGlad it went well! Good luck!
ticketsflorida snow day, haha! love pajama days!
emwhittIt's going well. Thanks for asking. I really like everyone there. And, the schedule is working out just fine - I've just had to learn how to take naps :)

Is this stupid to anyone else? 08-14-08 08:05pm EST
Okay, so today, on my way back to work after eating lunch, I almost hit a lawn guy. I was driving through our neighborhood and the guy was using a blower. Fine. But he was in the street, fine again. I don't have an issue with driving around him. But here is the part I think is stupid. Why in the world do they wear those head phone things? I mean I know that the lawn equipment is loud, but between the lawn equipment and the ear plug things, he had no idea that I was driving up on him. I went to drive around him in the other lane, and he proceeded to keep backing up into that lane. I slammed on my brakes, (and threw up my hands in disgust, I know that wasn't appropriate, but it irritated me), and of course he gave me this look as if the whole thing was my fault. It couldn't have anything to do with the fact that he is using lawn equipment, in the road, and wearing ear plugs to be sure he is completely unaware of his surroundings. That's stupid. I just had to get that out there. Stupid.

In other news, I'm back to work. (YAWN!) I'm back to getting up at 5, and doing the work thing. We had open house tonight and it went very well. I had all but 3 of my kids show up. I was pleased with the turn out. The students start on Monday. That will be an exhausting day, but its always pretty fun.

Anyway, I've been standing all day, my feet hurt, and the house still needs to be cleaned up. I'm out.
mellymcOh man, getting up at 5? Good luck!!! And yeah I think thats stupid
kembryWow, that's so weird. Oh, and your husband ROCKS!
spike427sometimes i'm afraid i'm going to hit a lawn person, too. i know they can't hear me!!
beckylboyerHave a good year!
DessertDivaI think they do that so their ears aren't damaged by the noise of the equipment. But I hear ya, it's frustrating knowing they can't hear you approaching and they're standing in the street - where cars drive!
mini_lizziei like getting up early! i even wake up early on the weekends! i get way more stuff done that way! :)
ryanandnancyGood luck!
lordrasilly lawn person ... did there mother ever teach them to look both ways when backing up into the street?
pettymamaI'm tired is all I have to say!! Can you imagine 5 years of screaming like that?
pettymamaHe didn't scare me off. I had fun organizing :) If you ever need me to help just let me know.
the_earlysbless your heart, putting up with that screamer today! i'm sure you have a headache! i could hear him out at dismissal. yikes! he's got lungs!

Here's the link again: www.ubah.com/w2267
DessertDivaWeird. I've tried several times and it won't work.
globetrotterI just tried it and it worked fine - you just have to cut and paste. Does Usborne sell only children's books?

charliesangeli'm so glad to hear you are doing so well!! Congrats on a new baby! i had no idea you had another baby. Glad you are also still enjoying teaching and Kenny sounds wonderful. I've heard great things about him. We do like the DFW area and we especially love being in Ft. Worth. I have met your uncle Bruce at Northwest and he cracked me up. We live in Keller and really enjoy it. Yes, another baby girl coming in about 10 weeks. We are looking forward to it!! Again, so glad you are doing well.
littlebitFred said that would be GREAT!!! If you could send it soon that would be wonderful and we'll reimburse you the cost of shipping. I'll send you our address on Facebook. Thanks sooo much!
mini_lizziethat is totally what i was thinking but currently he is still a blob of a kid that looks cross eyed as he is only 2 weeks old! HA
mini_lizziep.s. i forwarded it to my mom and told her to share with her friends too. :)
green_gourmetWe are SOOO excited that you are Morgan's teacher. Of course, you may not want to have ANYTHING to do with us by years end...No, really. He is a good boy, just gets a little overcome with excitement from time to time. At least you are like minded and can tell us if he needs a good spanking to keep him in line;)
green_gourmetYeah, we'll be there. Looking forward to it:)

Almost done. 08-03-08 11:07pm EST
I am almost done with the house done. Well, I probably shouldn't say that, because I still have a list of things that I want to do or need to do, but the major things are now done! I finished getting all the wallpaper down in the kids bathroom and Friday night I got it painted (with a little of Kenny's help). I'm sure he would comment on that if I didn't say that he helped. So, he did. Saturday, I finished that room up. I am still looking for the right pics to hang in there, but the big stuff is done. Yay! Then painted the hallway. I still need to paint the master bathroom, but that was last on my list for some reason.

I am now in decorating phase. I have been hanging pictures last night and today. My parents came by after church to pick up my beach chairs for their outing tomorrow, so while they were here, I enlisted dad to hang a few things for me. I still have a few more things to get up and I have pics ordered to put in some of the frames I recently bought. I think I'm going to hang the empty frames just to get them up off the floor and then put the pics in when they come...I'm crazy like that.

I still have things that I want to do, like new blinds, ours are old and ugly, and it makes me feel like I need to tell people that come over, "We still need to replace the blinds...", because I wouldn't want them to think that I like them, because I don't. I still need drapes/window treatments for the living/dining room, kitchen, Jake's room and our room. Kent and Emma's are done. Oh, and I need an entry way table. We actually have an entry way rather than walking directly into our family room, there is a foyer area, so I most definitely need a table. It just seems bare without one. And don't worry, I'm top of that, I have my eye on one. Too bad my pocket book doesn't have its eye on it right now. Still recooping from our trip. Ugh. There are lots of little things that I would like to have and one big thing, a refrigerator. The frig that they left has a broken inside light. That's just annoying. We replaced the bulbs, and it just doesn't work. Oh well. Someday.

Anyway, I did side project in the middle of all of this. I decided last week while watching play with all the tags on his toys and stuffed animals that he needed a "Taggie". I just refuse to pay 25-30 dollars for a piece of fleece with ribbons on it. So I made him one. I went to Joanns and bought a remnant of fleece that was only $4.00 and used ribbon that I had here. I have tons from my bow making. I cut and pinned everything together and then my lovely mother sewed it up for me. I don't actually have a sewing machine. But, it turned out really cute. Picture to come later. I now have to make one for my nephew. My SIL also wanted one but didn't want to pay the price, so I'll hook her up.

That's all for now. Out.
ktembryWow, there were a lot of typos there. I made Kent a taggie. I never actually mentioned his name. Oh well.
the_earlysa taggie?! that's pretty crafty! sounds like you have been really busy @ your house.
the_earlysit is sad that after a year, my house still isn't completely painted/decorated. but i'm working on it! i'm going to try to paint the last 2 rooms before we go back on friday!
sgarner2005Again, SUPER MOM!! Way to go!
mini_lizziewow! you are super mom! :)
spike427you are a whirlwind of activity on your house!!
green_gourmetDoes Baby Boomerang take maternity clothes? I thought about e-bay, but I have a lot of items and it might be easier to try and get rid of all of them at once. I don't know. We'll see.

Christmas in July (or August). 08-01-08 03:20pm EST
Okay, so today is August 1st and I am almost done with my Christmas shopping. I love that. I don't know how often you guys out there go to Target or Walmart, but, I go a lot. I went a whole lot on our trip. I scored big at the Walmart in BG and got xmas gifts for 5.00 and under. Everything was on clearance and was originally 25.00-30.00. Yay! Then today at Target, I was just wandering the aisles and found more clearance things. Moon Sand for 4.00 and a Disney Princess Makeup/Purse set for 3.75. Awesome! For those prices, they will be perfect christmas gifts! Those are only two of my great deals, the list is really long. I may list it later because I am really pleased with myself. I am almost done with Emma and everything was on clearance, 5.00 and under. I am also almost done with Kent, also clearance items, 5.00 and under. I have bought for all my nieces and nephews, also in the same price range. These aren't cruddy gifts either, I just scored really great deals!

So, you may want to head over to your Target or Walmart, but, I may have already cleaned them out. :)

Also, I worked late last night. I'm on a mission to get everything done around the house before I go back to work, which is a week from today. Last night I finally finished painting our bedroom. It has been partially painted for a month now. Then, I took down all the wallpaper in the hall bathroom. That was hard work, but not as bad as I thought it would be. I used my brother's power steamer and got it all down in 2.5 hours. Now I need to prep the walls for painting. It felt really good to get that paper down.

Anyway, I had to go in to work this morning, for a couple hours. Did that and got the kids enrolled in school. Check that off my list. Its getting close...
sgarner2005You sound so much like super mom!!! How do you do it??? :) I do like to do my shopping like that too, I usually don't go out Xmas shopping, just start looking for deals right around now.
lydiasmotherhummm i better get to target then---LOL how bout the super target did you get there?
pettymamaDid you find out who their teachers are going to be?
beckylboyerYou are busy! Good job on the xmas shopping. I usually don't start this early because I have to wait for my volleyball money (I officiate and it pays for Christmas plus savings) to start coming in in September!
littlebitYay!!! I LOVE those kinds of shopping trips :-) On Wed we went with a friend to the Matel/Fisher Price outlet and she has an employee card and gets 50% off so we were able to get K's birthday and christmas and both nieces christmas presents :-)
crazy_mamaWhat girl doesn't want a Disney Princess Makeup Purse? A dream come true!!! Good for you!
DessertDivaSweet deals! Nice work!
