Well, since I haven't really updated on what's been going on with us, I figured I'd do a quick update.
The work at Ardmore is going extrememly well! We just finished a gospel meeting, and it could not have gone any better! We had different speakers each night, and all of the men did a terrific job! I want to thank Jim and Jordan Lovell, Eric Belcher, Mark Nave, Lance Taylor, Brett Westbrook, and Caleb George for the hard work they put in preparing for the meeting. You could really tell each of these fine men put a lot of thought into their sermons.
Laura and I feel like we're getting closer to the members every day. Starting a new work, sometimes it's a little difficult to really get in and know people outside of church. This Saturday we're going white water rafting with several members. Both Laura and I are wanting to have more interaction with the congregation other than services. Does anyone else have problems with this? What do you do to fix it?
Anyways, I've started my career. As some of you know, I took a summer internship at Boeing in Huntsville, AL. I have been informed that they are extending my internship until after I graduate, then they are converting me to a full hire.
Speaking of graduation, I plan on graduating next Spring. After that, I plan on taking my GMAT and enrolling in grad school at UNA or UAH, haven't decided where yet.
Laura and I have been married for over 6 months now. I know that's not a lot, but every day has been a blessing! Our little puppy is such a little squirt. Apparently he doesn't understand the concept of sleeping in and wants to be up at 7:30 to play.
Typically having a fellowship dinner after sunday services in the gym helps with the socialization.
oh wait. :P just kidding.
in all seriousness. gooch lane has started 'work groups' mainly because the elders obviously can't keep up with all of us personally. i haven't participated in a lot of 'work' our work group does, or the real 'meetings' but they have encouraged will and i tremendously in our life 'rut.' typically a work group sends out letters to visitors, sick or someone needing sympathy or prayers, in addition to keeping up with those in the group itself. we've had dinners and stuff with ours and it's been a lot of fun. especially because they're not with the people we'd normally 'hang out with' on the weekends. not that we do much of that anymore anyway.
could you get laura to cook (or buy really lol) us up something good for dessert for friday? if she can't just lemme know and i'll go buy some oreos or something ;)
Congratulations on the job! I heard about the meeting at Ardmore but couldn't make it because I was moving during that week. But I'm glad to hear it worked out so well!
good!! :) and yes i'm going. LOL! well its more like I WENT. haha. ~thank you for doing the class. u did an OUTSTANDING job. I really really miss you teaching us. :'( Yes, you were my favorite I do believe ... despite your HARD questions (jk!!! =D) but thanks again. and no, Tales of Two Cities is still not making sense. lol! =)
Do you know the Townhomes on Hobb St where Kim Dobbs lives? It's at the clubhouse to her neighborhood. Can you guys come? Really Kim is heading this up, I am just helping her get the word out.
we'll come over and play! i hope we can get together too. our social lives have been non existent since...well probably since the last time we hung out! nikki's better, she's taking it slow but she's slowly gaining energy back to do what needs to be done. her knee is still weak and she still has headaches but the doctor said it'd take a little while to fix those.
Well, here I am at work... barely able to keep my eyes open!
Why do you ask? Because I had the wonderful idea to go see the new Batman movie at midnight. Still asking why? I'm not sure! Maybe it was just all the hype around the movie that got me so excited I felt as if I "had to" go see this.
Now don't get me wrong, it was an excellent movie! Ledger's Joker was amazing! Simply amazing! This is one of the few movies that I am actually planning on going to see AGAIN in the theatres (mind you, not at midnight again)! It's that good!
But as the title to my post suggests, I'm sitting here at work thinking, "What in the world were you doing. Why would you do this? You knew you had to work, so why?"
Here's hoping I don't fall asleep on the way home this afternoon!
Since I've been told many times to update, I guess I'll finally bite the bullet and do it!
It's been crazy since I last updated. I think I'll have a quick list of the things that have happened.
1) Got married! Obviously this has been awesome and I love my wife so much!
2) Got a preaching job! I'm preaching at Ardmore church of Christ and working with brother Hobo (Douglas) Eubanks. This has been such a blessing to get to work with a good group of Christians who are so encouraging to both Laura and I!
3) Almost graduated! I've got 3 more semesters to go. I could have graduated in the fall, but a class I needed was only being offered on Wednesday night this past semester. Needless to say, I chose to go to church instead. This pushed me back graduating, but I think I made the right choice.
Those are the major announcements in my life. And since it's been a while since I've posted, let's go over some humorous stuff as well as a soap box issue of mine.
Humor:
Ah, the joys of apartment living. Our new neighbors apparently hate the alarm clocks as much as Laura and I do. However, Laura and I have the courtesy of cutting ours off instead of letting it go off for hours on end. Our neighbors do not have this level of common decency. Now, those of you who know me know that I can sleep through almost anything! This morning however, I was woken up by our neighbors alarm clock. Laura was already woken up and was wondering if it would be rude to hit the wall. I said it would and that they would eventually shut it off. After about 10 minutes, they still had not. Laura banged on the wall lightly to try and wake them up. After a few minutes had passed and that annoying bleeping was still going on, I proceeded to BANG on the wall! What followed was very funny. We heard a loud thump and then the alarm cut off. I'm assuming from the rather large thud we heard, I had scared the person have to death and they fell out of bed. Maybe next time they'll think twice before messing with me in the morning at 5:30 AM!
Soap Box:
The world is definately going down hill. While this should come to no surprise to us as Christians, it is still very sad to see. Laura and I were discussing the other day various issues that we or our children will have to deal with eventually.
The issue I want to talk about is homosexuality. I am afraid that we (or our children) will be faced with this sin and forced to take a stand against. The thing that scares me the most is the unwillingness to do so. Are we afraid of being labeled a biggot? Would we rather just stand by and not cause any problems?
I'm not advocating hate or hate crimes, but rather a stand against homosexuality. Romans 2 is not hard to understand. God intended husband and wife. He created Adam and Eve in the beginning. Under the Old Law, homosexuals were to be killed. That's how God feels about homosexuality.
As a follower of God, are we willing to take a stand for His word?
Anyways, enough pet peeves. Hope everyone is doing well! Come visit us at Ardmore or at Camelot any time you get a chance! Peace!
I'm sure that WAS hilarious with your apartment neighbors! I guess I lucked out in the year that I did rent up here to not have my bedroom next to someone elses bedroom! =)
Hehe I was laughing about that all morning. I told Michelle and she laughed too. Thanks for updating, I love you!! I must go cook supper now before you die of hunger ; )
Glad to hear everything's going well for you two! Apartment living is always interesting--my favorite story was always about the time my car alarm woke up my entire building at 6 on a Saturday morning. They loved that.
Well, hello, stranger! Hi to Laura, too. I love the alarm story... Hearing an alarm every day at 5:30 a.m. would be a great incentive to MOVE! I am NOT a morning person!!!
NO WAY, I had not heard about you preaching at Ardmore. I think that is wonderful. I really like Hobo and Naomi. Hope to see you two newlyweds at our meeting first week of June. Different speakers every night. Mr Hall is on Monday. :)
Eh, you know the world's in bad shape no arguement there, but I don't know that it's necessarilly anyworse that it was 50 years ago. Granted I wasn't alive back then but I do know that homosexuality wasn't invented yesterday, nor were whorehouses, crackhouses, or rape or murder. I for one have a great deal of difficulty believing old peoples stories about "The good old days". I always think to myself: "Oh yea gramps, the good old days of facism, communism, and genocide?? I agree we're too tolerant on things these days but heck, our grandparents used to beat black people and squirt them with firehoses. Are we worse off now than that? I don't think so, I for one think we've made some moderately good progress lately.
HA! :) thanks. It wouldnt be bad at all if it werent for the dvd's. but all of them are about 40 min long. so i get done with WATCHING dvd's around 12. but thats taking 30 min for bible too..(and thats not dvd). and then after lunch i do all of my homework. so yeah..... haha. Its getting harder for sure. and i dont even want to think about that right now.......(college i mean)
yeah...if you don't get it, be VERY happy!!!! I never had a fever so high for so many days! Actually, of all the people I know who had it, no one got as high a temp as I did, which I found strange!
hey!!! =) how are you?? it was good to see you and Laura this week at church! =) glad y'all got to come- I wish I had the chance to get to talk to you when you were there =(
I miss you soo much!! Stasia and I were talking one day..and we both agreed that you were our favorite teacher. WE MISS YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!! COME VISIT!!!-PLEASE! :) Maybe you and Laura can come to our meeting in June. =)
Well, since someone keeps pestering me that I need to update, I guess I can. My life can be summed up in three things: school, work, and my fiance.
First thing, school. School is going well. The semester is almost over, and I'm officially over the hump. I'm definately looking down, but it still isn't easy! I'm finally classified as a Senior starting next semester. I'll have 3 more to go! (About time I know!)
Next thing, work. Work is going...that's about all I can say about it. The first of the layoffs have started. See if this makes sense, the company is bankrupt. They can't keep all of the new hires on staff so they lay them off. That's all fine and dandy, here's the kicker. They lay them off but still pay them 95% of their salary. Pay me 95% of my salary and I'll stay home! And they wonder why this place is shutting down? Oh well!
And the last and best thing of my life, my wonderful amazing and loving fiance. (I don't say that just because she's over my shoulder reading this.) Wedding plans are going well enough. We've got a good bit of stuff finished, but it seems we have more stuff that needs to be done. We're both very excited and can't wait! February 1st will be here before you know it!
Now for some miscellaneous (wow, I actually spelt that right the first time) items.
- The quarter at Pepper Road is almost over! I'll be done teaching for a little while.
- I've got a raise coming at my job. I'm excited about that!
- Super Mario Galaxy is a great game! Rock Band is also fun game!
- Thanksgiving was excellent! The fried turkey, dressing, sweet potato pie, and everything else was amazing! Getting to spend time with my family as well as Laura's was fantastic!
- Christmas shopping...yeah, we're not going there yet.
- Continue to pray for John Gibson's father. It seems that the doctors don't know what to do, he's been on a roller coaster for a while now.
- Continue to pray for Mr. Mike Tucker, her father in law.
- Pray for Laura and I. Pray that she doesn't wake up and realize what she's getting in to!
yes.. i do know... those were good times. i still burst into fits of giggles for no apparent reason and can't stop. i haven't talked to you in such a long time... how are you?
haha thanks. i did a pretty good job for a six month old! =D lol. =D And I bet he's precious!!!! I love yorkies!!!..mom wanted that kind first..then a shih tzu..and then a bichon frise. lol. so we got a mixture of the bichon and shih tzu! =D lol
Is someone getting married soon? ;) Congratulations to both of you! I know that everything will be beautiful. May God bless you as you start your new life together.
