So today marks the first day of school. As is our tradition, we have photos of the Kids to mark this memorable time. John Only has two more pictures to take like this... Hard to believe our kids are growing up so fast. Here they are John-10th grade, Courtlyn- 8th and Jared-7th.
We take pictures of our kids on the first day too. It is hard to believe that John is so close to graduating. It seems to happen overnight, doesn't it? I am trying to see the good moments about having young kids right now, instead of complaining. It will be gone too fast!!
Here are some more pictures from our vacation... we are heading south and are in Philly today. We have had a great time other than finding a place to eat that meets with everyone's satisfaction...Here are some pictures from Niagara Falls, Canada; NYC-(Statue Of Liberty, Times square, subway, Rockerfeller Plaza, Radio City Music Hall), and Philadelphia (Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence was signed, and the Liberty Bell... )
Looks like you are having a wonderful time! Tell Jared we like his cast... Jack asked if he could have one!!! I told him, I am sure he will have one someday. (he did not like my answer :o)
It was great to hear about your conversation with Trae last night and the resulting baptism! I had just told David about the wonderful comparison you made about "the ticket" and salvation. It was effective!
Actually, we will have it on Youtube in a few weeks. They, the Braves, usually give us a DVD of the performance. And, since the song is in public domain, we can put it out there without big brother suing us for any copyright violations.
So we have made our way all the way to Gettysburg on Saturday. We've had a great time so far and have seen quite a bit in three days. On Wednesday we drove to Greensboro, NC. Thursday we had to leave fairly early to get to Mt. Vernon to tour the historical home of George Washington. Having been here as a kid, it is really neat to bring kids of your own here
On Friday we went to DC. We got a later start than we hoped but still made it by Metro to our Washington Monument tour.
We visited the Holocaust Museum, Natural History Museum, and the National Archives where we were able to see the Constitution, Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence
We had planned to meet with Bradford Kennedy who is doing some summer school and interning in DC at George Mason University, after the Archives.. when we got connected it started pouring so we had to buy some umbrellas, we walked to a local sandwich shop and had dinner with Brad, and then walked back to the train station, rode with Brad to his stop and then on to ours it took almost an hour to get back to our hotel west of town...
Saturday we slept in a little and thn drove to Gettysburg, PA. After a picnic lunch at the park we went to the museum, saw the movie, and then went on a CD guided Auto tour of the battlefield.
Here are a couple of pictures from the second stop on the tour:
Here is a location of a famous picture from the battle at Gettysburg, it was controversial because of the location and the subject. Who knows what the controversy was about the picture taken at this location....? Here is a clue the location is referred to as Devil's Den.
We plan to worship with Ed Legg's folks tomorrow AM and then drive 7 hours to Niagara. More posts later.
Looks like lots of fun! I can't wait for our kids to be a little older and make that same trip! Miss you guys - don't get lost coming home. You are required for VBS!!
I had to look up Devil's Den; but the controversy is there was a picture taken there showing the body of a dead Confederate sharpshooter(sniper). One accont of the 2nd day of the Battle of Gettysburg tells how the Union army was receiving fire from an unknown point. They discovered the "Sharpshooter's Home" and fired a cannon. After the battle, the Confederate soldier's body was discovered. However, the photo taken of the dead soldier has been proven to be a fake; it is believed that a soldier's body was moved to Devil's Den and the picture was taken.
Thanks to Woody McClendon and his bright idea (didn't realize he frequented chat rooms- subject for a different day), this is going crazy. If you have not seen this yet, you will. Get on Board and let's change the country together!!
Let's just say that Buddy will forever be marked! Claire told me the other day that she didn't think she would ever be able to forgive him. That is not her nature at all! It was HORRIBLE!!!
