Well back to the tea party! I gave one for Peri on her 5th birthday too! She loved it. We had one twist on ours, instead of wearing our dressy dresses and hats, they each wore there favorite "princess" outfit! They were a bunch of Princesses at Tea! It was so cute, they had there tiara's (sp??) and their big royal jewels on, they were all so cute and for that age, they really all enjoyed being dressed up like their own princess! I wish I knew how to put pictures on this thing, I could show you some beautiful princesses!
I sent this email around to some friends and then thought, I should post it and maybe I'll get more ideas! So here it goes:
I am soliciting help for ideas for Ashlyn’s 5th birthday party, which is November 4th. I have always wanted to have, for her 5th, a tea party, but honestly don’t know much about planning a tea party. I called the only tea room in Montgomery this morning hoping to have it there but they don’t allow birthday parties there until the age of 6. So, if ya’ll have any recipes or ideas that would help in my planning I’d be so appreciative!
Get your creative juices flowing and then share your thoughts with me!
Hmmm I think that Sheila did a little girls tea party once while they lived in Saraland, perhaps she will have some ideas. I may be dreaming this though, who knows!
NO your not dreaming it. It was so much fun. Holly I borrowed teacups from everyone I knew (especially Ms. Marilyn). We had it out on my porch. I served scones, biscuits (regular cookies) in different flavors and I had English breakfast tea in a tea pot on each table. We had little spoons and I bought the little sugar cubes at the store so I could ask them "One lump of two?" We watched Felicity, the American Girl Doll movie, because in that movie they took tea lessons for little ladies. They learned how to hold their pinky up when drinking and to put their spoon on top of their cup to show that they've had enough. I would recommend watching that movie. It's cute and may give you some ideas. I gave the girls a lesson in "proper tea" and they really liked it. The best thing of all is that they had to wear their finest dress but a garden hat was a must to come. I had some hats on hand for those that didn't have one. Also the scones you should be able to find a scone mix at the store. Try to have butter pats and some jelly dishes on each table to spread on their scones. Make sure you have milk on the table too, because proper English tea always has milk.
Sorry I know that's a little scattered brained (feeling that way at the moment). Ha! Let me know if you have any other questions. I absolutely loved giving this party. Also do you have any idea when Sarah and Jessies birthdays are? I know one is this month and I didn't want to miss it.
Today is Caleb's first day of 1st grade. The city is building a new junior high that will face our elementary school, so you can imagine how traffic is, not only just first day of school traffic but construction traffic too. Plus, the city redid our parking lot to hold the # of students/cars we have. I think it holds some 165 cars right now. Oh boy, traffic was crazy this morning even after Open House and our principal explaining to everyone how it was going to work today. There must have been a ton of people who missed the memo!
Caleb was so excited! I didn't walk him in today, because of the traffic issues. That probably helped me not to cry too. I was too frustrated with the cars not doing what was asked of us at Open House. Anyway, he ran in, just like he did everyday last year - didn't take him long to get over the "I don't want to go back to school yet" attitude. I can't wait to hear how his first day goes!
Today is the first day of school here in Auburn, too. Silas is starting first grade at home this year, in a couple of weeks. Can't wait for the update!
I have posted several things that Ashlyn has said and I realized that I haven't posted much of the crazy things Caleb comes up with. Kids see things in such a great way, we have so much to learn from them.
Today I got a good one from Caleb....
We were out shopping today, had several stops to make, and the kids did considerably well, they only got 1 spanking each before we left the house for jumping on the couches. (side note, what is it with kids and jumping on furniture, please someone enlighten me?)
In the car:
Caleb said to Ashlyn: "Dude, I just kicked Satan to the ground!"
Caleb said to me: "Mommy, Daddy (pronounced "Da-Ee" [he has always said it that way, skipping over the d's]) said that Satan gets into our head to try to tell us to do bad things and when we listen to him, he wins. He whispers things into our ear to get us to do bad things. So it's his fault when we do bad things."
Me: "Yes, he does try to get us to do bad things, but it's not his fault that we do them. What Satan does is he puts the bad thought into our head and then it's our choice whether we follow him or not. When we follow him and do the bad thing, then he wins because we've followed him. But when we choose to do the good thing then Satan looses because that means we are following GOD."
Caleb: "Yeah, like when we jumped on the couch earlier, that was bad and Satan won. But we were good in the store, so we kicked Satan to the ground!"
Wow, is he all boy or what? :)
Life lessons - they are all around us! Let's take advantage of every opportunity we can to show our children the way, the truth and the life!
