It's been a good weekend, here are some of the highlights:
-Had delicious chocolate mousse cheesecake for my birthday (the stuff you and I drooled over at Sam's Club)
-Got a car from my dad/parents for my birthday... a gold 2000 Buick Regal LS. It's lovely, and my parents' generosity never ceases to amaze me. My mom also gave me two of my favorite movies... An Affair to Remember and Arsenic and Old Lace. Allison hasn't seen either and I'm looking forward to watching them with her in our new pad.
-Went to church x2 at North Ridgeville on Sunday, got to see all of my old church family. Went to Red Robin & Kory's house with Matt and Allison. It's always fun to hang out with Kory.
-Went up to Lake Erie (Veteran's Memorial Park, for those of you familiar with the area) on Monday. It was beautiful... sunny & 75 degrees. Got a little sunburned. Couldn't swim though, there was a bacteria warning because of the heavy rain the day before. Gotta love Lake Erie.
-Went over to Rachel's house and had a fun cook out with her, her husband Rob, my brother Rob, Allison, Matt, and some other old friends. It was really good catching up with them, and I praise God that Rachel has come back to God and her husband (who is a really nice guy) has put on Christ.
-Had a fire at my parent's house tonight. Good times had all around. Matt, Allison, & I were discussing facial expressions and the physical reasons for why people look they way they do when scared or disgusted. Nettie was nearby, and when we asked why people pull back their lips and show their teeth when they're happy, she said, "Because they can." And when asked why water comes out of our eyes when we're sad, she said, "Because it does." Well, duh. Good stuff.
We're heading back home to Chillicothe tomorrow evening. Pray for our safe travels.
I had the BEST time with you guys yesterday! My sides were just a little achy this morning from all the good belly laughing- which is awesome. I love to laugh and I love to laugh so much that I get sore from it! LOL I'm so glad you guys brought Matt w/you and I am so so happy to have you guys back in my life. Wonderful people you guys are! **tear, sniff, sniff**
An Affair to Remember is my favorite too. Looks like you will make a great mom, you already know so much like not to put food products on their bottoms.
Thanks. The trip to the doggy motel in Grafton is a far enough commute, but appreciate your offer! The north shore of Lake Superior is beautiful. Bob's mom used to like to look for agates along the shoreline because the water was so clear. There are lots of scenic parks, etc. along the shore; and I'm looking forward to getting better acquainted with the inland areas -- the land of 10,000 lakes, I think MN is called.
As Allison said, we had a houseful for the tornado warnings last night. Despite a few scary moments for the kids, it was a pretty fun night! Here are some pictures to prove it:
1 Chemistry Test on Monday, 6/2- DONE
1 Chemistry Paper due on Monday, 6/2- DONE
1 Nutrition Test on Thursday, 6/5
1 Chemistry Final Exam on Monday, 6/9
1 15 page paper on Maya Angelou (yuck) due Monday, 6/9
What are your thoughts on OW? You mentioned not liking her and thus Angelou's connection to her. Certainly, Angelou lived a rough life and made some terrible decisions.
We read "Still I Rise" in China in my English class...it was great. The students were really inspired. I almost jumped on top of a desk and said, "Carpe Diem"....but I didn't
jUlie! Thanks for adding me...didn't know you were on pleo. Great to see you! So are you one of those eternal students...someone who just can't get away from school?!
"We usually notice [our spiritual longings] just as the moment of vision dies away, as the music ends, or as the landscape loses the celestial light. . . . For a few minutes we have had the illusion of belonging to that world. Now we wake to find that it is no such thing. We have been mere spectators. . . . It is not the physical objects that I am speaking of, but that indescribable something of which they become for a moment the messengers. And part of the bitterness which mixes with the sweetness of that message is due to the fact that it so seldom seems to be a message intended for us, but rather something we have overheard. By bitterness I mean pain, not resentment. . . . But we pine. the sense that in this universe we are treated as strangers, the longing to be acknowledged, to meet with some response, to bridge some chasm that yawns between us and reality, is part of our inconsolable secret. . . . We do not want merely to see beauty, though, God knows, even that is bounty enough. We want something else which can hardly be put into words--to be united with the beauty we see, to pass into it, to receive it into ourselves, to bathe in it, to become part of it. . . . We discern the freshness and purity of morning, but they do not make us fresh and pure. We cannot mingle with the splendours we see. But all the leaves of the New Testament are rustling with the rumour that it will not always be so. Some day, God willing, we shall get in. When human souls have become as perfect in voluntary obedience, then they will put on its glory, or rather that greater glory of which Nature is only the first sketch." --The Weight of Glory (pp. 40-44)
I'm ashamed to admit that this is the first time that I've ever read C.S. Lewis. His insights are stunning.
he is on point with stating that we can, indeed, witness the perfection of God in the world around us, and then scarcely put into words what we feel about said perfection and then become completely speechless when thoughts turn to becoming one with said perfection.
Well, I guess I'll let you post on my blog since you were helpful! ;) Thanks - I bet you're right. You're right about C.S. Lewis - he wrote some amazing things. I highly recommend The Screwtape Letters.
yeah, I'm moving the 14th of June! It's exciting and it's only about 30 seconds from Jason and Shellys house which is a plus....My grandpa isn't doing so hot. He has a VERY bad couple of weeks and right now its important for them to find out what the imbalance is so that he can be regulated correctly with the medication. It's super sad that I'm not there enough--I'm going home this weekend though so, I'll get to spend a bunch of time with him hopefully. He still remembers everyone but, he is very outrageous sometimes in his actions and words and it's becoming more prevalent. Thanks for asking, I hope everything there is going well.
I left Nettie out of my last picture post. I talked about how handsome & old Ray was, but Nettie is growing up so fast, too. For those of you that haven't seen her in a while, here's a picture of her. This one's actually from last spring, so she's a year older (and even more beautiful) now! :-)
And for those of you that haven't seen Rob in a while, here he is. He's not so beautiful, but he's old.
Hey you! How fun to talk to all of you again! I enjoy seeing your parents every Wednesday and Sunday and it will be so fun to see all of you again when you are up for visits! Thanks for keeping us in your prayers. Thankfully, our prayers and the prayers of so many others have been answered already. We've had a few bumps, especially with Rob's diagnosis, but we really have been very fortunate people.
