I just wanted to take the time today while I had it, to wish all of my friends a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving!
Thank God for His love and His promises, His blessings both Spiritual and Physical, for my wife and kids, my whole entire family, my extended family (friends, co-workers, and acquitances) this great country we live in, the men and women who defend it, the freedoms we have because of those men and women who came before any of us, the job I have, and my health and the health of others!
I'm HOPEFUL that I was wrong about the person I didn't vote for and that he's a President who will become as great a leader as everyone thinks, I'm even hopeful that I was wrong about him and that he shuts everyone up and ushers in a new era for this country, I'm hopeful that our country comes to peaceful state soon and the other countries follow suit
I told myself that I wouldn't post about Voting today because I for one am not an avid poster so this post would stay up for a while and two, you probably have been told about a hundred times by now, go vote! Go Vote! GO VOTE!
Really people, you need to think about this incredible responsibilty we have to make sure that this priviledge that so many other countries don't have, is taken for granted and stepped on by soooo many in this country!
I will be the first one to say that yeah, politics is never my cup of tea, and yeah so many times on a National level politics are extremely unappealing, and yeah, politics has turned into "How can I make the people of America feel like I'm leading them diligently, keeping them happy and still get a piece of the pie" instead of "I might lose millions from Special Interest Groups if I chose to go against their stand but I don't care because going against them will make this country stronger as a nation!"
Some people might say, Vote for the lesser of Two Evils or vote for the best Vice-Presidential candidatebecause that's whose going to running this country in a few years. Some might even say well "Big Time Hollywood Actor" or "My Musician Hero" thinks that such and such will make a great president. What??? What??? God help us if we as a a society are being influence by knuckle headed celebrity sinners who know nothing about God, party like their lives depend on it and go through lovers like hats. Lord please come quickly if we are letting these clowns influence us in decision making on who a great president will be.
Our responsibilities as God-Fearing Christians show be to examine The Word, Examine ourselves, examine the candidates who speak as close to what God has to say as possible and less about what our generation needs! Because now more than ever our nation needs leadership that will lead us back to God, not the opposite way.
Get Out And Vote Today! And May God Bless You and Your Decisions!
I did!!! It was a great feeling. Now it's in God's hands and whatever the outcome, God will take care of his own. On a lighter note.. how about my "Braveheart!!"
I recently got this via e-mail and I never knew any of these things about these great heroes of my childhood but reading this made me even prouder to have had these men as childhood heroes and even heroes to this day.
WOW, WHO WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS, IMPRESSIVE!
Captain Kangaroo passed away on January 23, 2004 at age 76, which is odd, because he always looked to be 76. (DOB: 6/27/27)
His death reminded me of the following story:
Some people have been a bit offended that the actor, Lee Marvin, is buried in a grave alongside 3-star and 4-star generals at Arlington National Cemetery.... His marker gives his name, rank (PVT) and service (USMC). Nothing else. Here's a guy who was only a famous movie star who served his time, why the heck does
he rate burial with these guys?
Well, following is the amazing answer:
I always liked Lee Marvin, but didn't know the extent of his Corps experiences.
In a time when many Hollywood stars served their country in the armed forces often in rear echelon posts where they were carefully protected, only to be trotted out to perform for the cameras in war bond promotions, Lee Marvin was a genuine hero.
He won the Navy Cross at Iwo Jima... There is only one higher Naval award... the Medal Of Honor!
If that is a surprising comment on the true character of the man, he credits his sergeant with an even greater show of bravery.
Dialog from 'The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson':
His guest was Lee Marvin. Johnny said, 'Lee, I'll bet a
lot of people are unaware that you were a Marine in the
initial landing at Iwo Jima... and that during the course
of that action you earned the Navy Cross and were
severely wounded.'
'Yeah, yeah... I got shot square in the bottom and
they gave me the Cross for securing a hot spot
about halfway up Suribachi.
Bad thing about getting shot up on a mountain is
guys were getting shot hauling you down. But, Johnny,
at Iwo I served under the bravest man I ever knew...
We both got the Cross the same day, but what he
did for his Cross made mine look cheap in comparison.
That dumb guy actually stood up on Red Beach and
directed his troops to move forward and get the heck
off the beach. Bullets flying by, with mortar rounds
landing everywhere and he stood there as the main
target of gunfire so that he could get his men to safety.
He did this on more than one occasion because his
men's safety was more important than his own life.
That Sergeant and I have been lifelong friends. When
they brought me off Suribachi we passed the Sergeant
and he lit a smoke and passed it to me, lying on my
belly on the litter and said, 'Where'd they get you Lee?'
'Well Bob... if you make it home before me, tell Mom to
sell the outhouse!'
Johnny, I'm not lying, Sergeant Keeshan was the
bravest man I ever knew. The Sergeant's name is
Bob Keeshan. You and the world know him as Captain Kangaroo.'
On another note, there was this wimpy little man
(who just passed away) on PBS, gentle and quiet.
Mr. Rogers was another of those you would least suspect of being anything but what he portrayed to our youth. But Mr. Rogers was a U.S. Navy Seal; combat-proven in Vietnam with over twenty-five
confirmed kills to his name. He wore a long-sleeved sweater on TV to cover the many tattoos on his forearm and biceps. He was a master in small arms and hand-to-hand combat, able to disarm or kill in a heartbeat.
After the war Mr. Rogers became an ordained Presbyterian minister and a pacifist. Vowing to never harm another human and also dedicating the rest of his life to trying to help lead children on the right path in life. He hid away the tattoos and his past life and won our hearts with his quiet wit and charm.
America's real heroes don't flaunt what they did; they quietly go about their day-to-day lives, doing what they do best. They earned our respect and the freedoms that we all enjoy. Look around and see if you can find one of those heroes in your midst. Often, they are the ones you'd least suspect, but would most like to have on your side if anything ever happened.
Take the time to thank anyone that has fought for our freedom. With encouragement, they could be the next Captain Kangaroo or Mr. Rogers.
The Capt. Kangaroo thing is totally awesome. I have heard on many occasions that the Mr. Rogers thing is just a rumor though. I thought of you on Saturday. I am so sorry we couldn't be there. I hope you can foregive me.
here is my reaction to going natural. I agree, for the most part. But there are those out there that get more confidence with a wee bit of make-up. Not talking about completely hooker/geisha/Tammy Faye Baker. I am talking a but of concealer or powder or something small.
You cannot disagree that with confidence comes ven more beauty. :-)
(I like tinted sunscreen...more natural than most with the confidence as well. :-) )
Well, one of my worst fears have been confirmed. I'm officially falling apart heath wise, lol!
During my honeymoon, I was experiencing horrible headaches right in the back of my head. I was diagnosed twice as having tension headaches. I finally diagnosed myself as having High Blood Pressure (thanks Mom!) and my NEW doctor confirmed this!
Having a new doctor, she wanted to start from the ground up with me so she wanted me to do all this blood work... come to find out I have incredibly High Cholesterol!!!
Waiting in the wings is an appointment soon with a Sleep Center, to figure out if I have Sleep Apnea!!! If I am diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, this might be the cause of my High Blood Pressure I'm told, but every good night's sleep will be accesserated with a wonderful mask that I will have to put over my face. Hope my wife remember's that I have this thing on and every morning she doesn't wake up with a blood curtaling "WWUUHHHYYYYAAA!!!"
This blog has turned into a pity party I think! You know what they say, when you get old you have a right to be feisty and cranky, lol!
Anyway, anyone know a great diet that excels in Low Cholesterol, Low Sodium, Low Triglycerides and Low Fat besides "the Air and Water Diet"?
I must go now because apparently I will have to excercise every waking moment for the rest of my life, WOOHOO!!!
Thanks for hearing me rant and rave, Love Ya Guys!
Oh, dear! Glad you've been able to find out what's going on - hope they'll get some treatment set for you to take care of all that! Thanks for your thoughts on my page. :)
When I worked at Rick's office, I think Shelby was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. I'm not sure if he wears the mask or not. Hopefully they find out soon what it is SOON! I know how it gets aggrivating when they can't figure it out! :)
On September the 12th of 2008, I offically married my best friend in the whole world and Heather Cherry became known as Heather Jackson! We had a small ceremony under a tiny gazeebo at the Gruene Mansion Inn in Gruene, Texas! We had all my family except for Lloyd who was kinda trapped in Magnolia and all my family from Heather's side and 3 other families present.
I had to have impromtu groomsmen and I had to make sure that the wedding band was ready to be handed off. My second oldest brother, Gilbert, video taped all of the ceremony which seemed like it lasted about 15 mins. In that time I had 2 ring boxes one had the ring and the other had nothing in it, I gave the empty one to my youngest Christian, unbeknownst to him. When Zeke Flores, Heather's father, asked for the ring as I looked to Christian. He opened the box and nothing was in it!!! For a few seconds, the lil crowd began looking around for the ring on the ground or watching a train wreck begin to unfold. Before anyone could freak out too bad, my best man, David who had the ring the whole time pulls it out of his pocket and saves the day!
Zeke also had a really nice speach prepared and went on to preach to his daughter and I about how we were running from a storm, but there are going to be storms in life that we can't run from. I thought he gave a nice touch to the ceremony and he only almost got choked up once, way to go Pops! After that, we had dinner at the always fabulous, Gristmill!!! We then had an awesome beginning to our honeymoon for the first two days at the Gruene Mansion Inn!
We did end up going to Disney World for the big continuation of our honeymoon, because our house was unscathed except for a bunch of tree limbs on the ground. I got to see Universal Studios, Downtown Disney, Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Unfortunately the headaches right in the back of my head was due high blood pressure, go figure! We ended up making the best of the honeymoon and seeing extended family while we were in Florida. Also while we were in Florida we found out that my in-laws didn't have electricity at their house, so guess who were staying our house while we were gone, and 2 weeks while we came back, lol! It's ok cuz I love them and I truly didn't mind having them. Plus they cleaned up the yard before we came back, TWO WORDS.... Cha! Ching!
We got back home on Saturday afternoon with the promise that we will go back to Disney World and see the other 2 theme parks, Animal Kingdom and Disney-MGM! I also am getting my High Blood pressure under control too. Me and Heather are very happy together and I never thought God could be so great until he joined me with my soulmate and blessed us so abundantly. She not only means the world to me but quite frankly she is my world! Thanks everyone for your prayers and well wishes, it truly means a lot! Do continue to pray for the victims of Hurricane Ike who lost everything in the storm and continue to pray for those people are still missing and their familes who want a peaceful recovery for their loved ones.
WEDDING UPDATE!!!
We will be renewing our vows in October on the 25th, so we will have a small ceremony and then thank all our truest friends who have had our backs the entire time since we anounced our engagment. I'll keep you posted!
