"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5,6
I was convinced at age 3 that I wanted to be a brain surgeon.
After seeing Little Mermaid at 6, I was convinced that I would grow up to be a Disney princess. Needless to say, that did not pan out as well as I had hoped.
In elementary school, I wanted to be a teacher.
In high school, I had gone full circle back to wanting to be a doctor--that is until I took Chemistry junior year.
Economics class freshman year in college sealed the deal, though. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to change the world (for the better), one dollar at a time. Yeah, it's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it.
Let's see, at one time or another I've wanted to be an atronaught, a professional baseball/basketball/football player (never hockey - I can't skate), bodybuilder, biochemist, actor, and I evetually stuck on biochemist.
I wanted to be a teacher all my life. I never changed from that. It varied on what I wanted to teach, but always a teacher. After about 25 years of teaching, I wanted to be a RETIRED teacher. Yeah for retirement!!
wow, after my first economics class, all i wanted to do was sleep. I always wanted to be an Airforce Fighter pilot. Then decided I didnt like the idea of people shooting at me while I was trying to shoot at them.
i honestly wanted to be a garbage man when i was 4 years old. i thought it was so cool how they got to hang off the truck while it was riding around. i've never been very ambitious...
I just wanted to be grown-up. I really didn't want anything other than that. Of course, my definition of grown-up has always been vague. I remember being 8 and thinking,"If I can just make it to 12, then I'll have everything I ever wanted."
how fun!!! Trevor and his wife Laura don't plan on having one for awhile..so I'll have to wait on the Aunt thing ..oh well I've pretty much adopted the kids at church!
Once, when I was traveling with a friend in Glasgow, Scotland, we took a cab one everning to get from one place to another. The cabby was really nice and super friendly...gave us great advice about what to see and do in the city. The very next morning we needed to get downtown so we took a cab. In the whole huge city of Glasgow, who was it that picked us up, but that SAME cab driver who had given us a ride the night before. What are the odds?
A man about three weeks ago was eating oysters at a Florida restaurant when low and behold, he finds a pearl in his dinner. And not just a pearl, but a nearly perfect pearl, worth thousands of dollars. That's almost unheard of, but.....about a week ago, it happened AGAIN, this time to a guy eating fried oysters in New Jersey. What are the odds?
So strictly statistically speaking (say that 5 times fast), the odds are slim to none. But life doesn't always follow statistics and odds. God created a world of order and set in motion rules, but He also allowed for a world of possibilities within those parameters. It's random coincidences like these that makes us smile and reassure us, that "with God, all things are possible". ~Matthew 19:26
What have you seen that made you ask, "What are the odds"? :)
Girl, you gotta go to the Creation Museum. It's just outside Cincinnati, OH. Let me know if you're interested. It's actually only about an hour from where I live now!
Thanks. I figure I probably offend a lot of people most of the time with my posts, but I think they're funny. Also, save your money and don't go to the Creation Museum.
I’m a huge fan of quotes (or proverbs, rather)—well-articulated words that serve as a kind of Cliff’s Notes of Cliff’s Notes on life from people who have experienced it. I got a little book of quotes for Christmas, and I thought I’d share a few of my favorites….
“We cannot tell what may happen to us in the strange medley of life. But we can decide what happens in us—how we take it, what we do with it—and that is what really counts in the end.” ~ Joseph Newton
“Keep you face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow.” ~Helen Keller
“Cheerfulness is contagious, but don’t wait to catch it from others. Be a carrier.” ~Anonymous
“Today is a new day. You will get out of it just what you put into it….If you have made mistakes, even serious mistakes, there is always another chance for you…for this thing that we call “failure” is not the falling down, but the staying down.” ~Mary Pickford
What was your favorite memory from 2007? What do you hope to accomplish in 2008?
Thanks for coming last night. I really appreciate all of your support. I'm not going to record this Sunday. Too many people can't come because of the late notice.
hey pippi - thanks for letting me know you're here. Just taking a short break from my preparation for tonight's class. We're going through the NT as a group this year. I'm pretty excited about it.
After weeks of being broken, my home computer is up and running again, thanks to my wonderful brother. I was so excited to have it back, that got a little carried away and felt the need to do a few week's worth of email writing and surfing in one night. Needless to say, I overslept a little today, making me a few minutes late to work. Thankfully, though, all I had to face were a few well-timed jokes at my expense from my coworkers. :-)
Girl, you are AWESOME!!! Dad got your check in the mail the other day and gave me a call asking, "Do you know some girl named Emily?" What a pleasant surprise! Thanks so much!!!
