I had the privilege, with tears of joy in my eyes, to baptize my son this morning.
He actually went forward during the invitation at the end of the sermon, before the invitation song. Tim Mahler, his girlfriend's father, preached an excellent lesson about making a new beginning in 2008, and at the end of his lesson, Scott went forward, before he was finished with his invitation. Tim added, "Now that's eagerness!" After Scott made his confession of faith, Tim invited me to come to the back to change. I put on the wading pantboots, while Scott changed. I rolled up my sleeves and tucked my tie in. I said a few words to the congregation, and baptized him. While making sure that he got completely underwater, I got my shirt and tie wet. Getting wet didn't bother me, because this was a very special event. I'm sure that neither Scott or myself will forget this day. It is a wonderful thing when your child becomes a Child of God!
Dr. O'Bryan said that Heather's surgery went well. She will not have the monthly pain, so she will be happier and I will be happier. He also removed her appendix which was covered with endometriosis. The abdominal incision should heal fairly quickly, and she should leave the hospital on Friday. Her surgery was from about 10:30 to 11:30 this morning. She will probably be in recovery for one or two hours and then she will be moved upstairs to a room.
We had to be here at the hospital at 6:00 this morning for surgery prep. We were sent to a room where Heather answered a lot of questions to make sure that she followed the directions given to her on Friday at her pre-op visit. We waited while I reviewed some drawings from the office and she enjoyed her ipod, watching some videos. Then we were separated and she went to surgery and I went to a waiting room. Along with 50 others, we watched a screen with all of the patient codes. At first her code was on a yellow background (prep), then green (surgery), then blue (moving from surgery to recovery), this phase was short, then purple (recovery) and her favorite color. Purple also made me feel good to know that her surgery was complete. It was sort of cool watching the screen and knowing where she was at that time. I'm probably talking too much. Please post any questions.
Regarding gifts, she is enjoying her Chrismas gift: an 80 GB ipod classic. She has downloaded some movies, tv shows, music, books, etc. There is still room for lots of other things, if you want to send her a link to something (The hospital has free wireless internet). She may post something soon. She is taking a nap now.
Thanks for all your prayers. We can see the results. Her cathader has been removed, oxygen removed, IV removed, pain pump removed, and leg messagers removed. She has been getting up to use the restroom and will be walking the halls soon. The doctor was amazed at lunchtime today. Again, thank you for your prayers.
