New week 08-18-08 09:17pm CST
Rachel and the kids made it back safely on Saturday. So how did I do with my list of projects for the end of the week/weekend?

  • Paint office = Done. Even did the trim, which I wasn't originally planning on doing.

  • Fix ramp to shed (with his help) = Done. The riding mower is out of the garage and in the shed where it now belongs.

  • Buy small storage shed for kids' outdoor toys = Done. Not put together yet, but that was going to be a project for this week anyway.

  • Friend's website = Done with all I can do until she gets me some more of the content.

  • Write 3 articles = Got 2 out of 3. The third is outlined, just not written yet.

  • Write 2 sermons = Done. Preached them yesterday.

  • Mow grass = Done.

  • Spray weeds = Not done. This got pushed back for this week.

  • Play my guitar = Well, I played for about 5 minutes one day.

So, I got most of the things done that I planned. I guess the original list was a little ambitious, considering I still had to be at my 8-5 job during the day.

-- -------------------- --

I updated my garage remodel gallery to reflect the recent progress. So you can check that out if you're interested.

rachelwFirst of all, I am impressed with your list that you were so successful in accomplishing most of!! That's great! Your garage project looks AWESOME! I'm really really impressed with that. It doesn't look like a former garage, from what I can see in the pictures. You know, sometimes people turn their garage into a room and it never really looks like a non-garage. Yours looks excellent!
pollymhImpressive! Sound's like you deserve a few more minutes of guitar play!
mjintexasWow, that's some serious work on the garage room! Looks fantastic!
ewalkerYour garage looks great!
mrs_poochiesounds like you got a lot done, now you can relax and play with the kids
kiss_the_rainVery nice. I like how you linked back to your blog at the end. Very helpful :-)
lefantstafwhat are your flooring plans for the garage conversion?

Home Alone 08-14-08 01:01am CST
Rachel and the kids headed to Arkansas with her parents today to visit family. They'll be coming back Saturday.

So what am I doing while they're gone? No, not partying. Something even better -- trying to get work done on some of the projects I've had going on.

One is the garage remodel. We've been busy and haven't gotten much done on it lately. We finally got a ceiling fan with a light put in the office side so I could see better. So tonight after church services I came back and started painting. I got the first coat of paint done in the office. I'm going to try and finish painiting this part tomorrow.

The other part of the garage will probably get painted next week. There is too much stuff piled in there to get to the walls. That should be remedied, hopefully, by Saturday. My brother agreed to help me fix the ramp we built for the shed so I can get the mower in there. We built it a little too steep the first time so the mower gets stuck at the top, as I found out today (don't worry, I managed to get it unstuck). So we'll fix that. And since he's got a truck, we're going to pick up another small outdoor storage shed for the kids' toys. Then I can get all the kids' stuff and all the "garage" stuff out. That will give me a lot more room.

I'll take some pictures to update my garage remodel gallery so you all can see how it's coming. That will have to wait though until Rachel gets back since she has the camera.

Another project I'd like to make some good progress on is a website I'm working on for a friend. I got a good start on it at the beginning of the week, but I'd like to try and finish it, or at least come close. Then I've got 2 more to work on that are currently on hold.

I also have a goal to write 3 articles this week. I did one last night that is nearly finished. The other two are outlined.

Oh, and I've got 2 sermons to write for Sunday.

And the grass will probably need to be mowed again by the weekend. I've been meaning to spray for weeds again too. And the thought crossed my mind to wash the cars, but I doubt that will happen this week.

I'd also like to play my guitar.
split_rockSo much to do; so little time.
split_rockDon't forget to sleep!
pollymhgood luck on the garage. Isn't it amazing how toys take over?
mjintexasLooking forward to more pics of the remodel! I love before/after pics. :)
rachelwToys mulitply at night, when no one is around, I'm convinced.

I hope your time alone is productive!
alp1926Don't work too hard.
rachelwYeah, it was like either way we'd be okay, so I felt fortunate for us to have 2 possible great outcomes. What a predicament to be in, right?!
lefantstafi've been project burdened like this for so long now, that the last two days, i had to take a brake from my house. i got some stuff done, but nothing house oriented. its silly, but i am totally ready to start up my projects again, and now i have to work. boo.
mrs_poochieglad you took a break to join us for dinner last night, it was good chatting with you.
raifhausThanks for your note!
nana_hMaybe dad can mow for you while he is here...don't want him to be bored!

Busy... 08-08-08 12:31am CST
Too many projects, too little time.

I did finally get the grass mowed after work today. It desperately needed it. It had grown up real bad in the past few days. Caden's been asking me at least once a day since the beginning of the week - "When are you going to mow, daddy?" So I got that out of the way. Caden will be happy.

Speaking of Caden, he got sick during Bible class last night. Weird because he was fine when we left the house. I ended up taking him home right after class instead of waiting until services were over. Rachel and Jenna rode home with her parents. I stayed home with Caden this morning and took him to the doctor. Doctor said it was just a virus. He's been feeling and acting much better today. And his fever's gone so hopefully he's over it.

Speaking of staying home with Caden this morning, because we've been busy at work I went back in tonight after getting the kids to bed so I could get some work done. I didn't have much time left before Friday deadlines. I just got home about a half hour ago. I got a good amount of work done, so tomorrow should be manageable. It's amazing how much more work you can get done when you're not interrupted with phone calls or customers coming in.

I updated Plain Bible Teaching last week. I've been busy and haven't felt like posting anything here so this is the first I've mentioned it here. Anyway, there's a few new articles if you want to check them out.
split_rockGlad you got the mower fixed so you could mow. How many years before Caden can make himself happy by taking over that chore for you?

It IS amazing how much work you can get done in a short time when you don't have to deal with people!
rachelwNice to hear from you again!
emilygrahamGlad Caden is feeling better
mjintexasDoug did the same thing. And man, did it need it. But our lawnmower had bene off in the shop for a while.
rachelwI think that's awesome!!!!! Glad you liked the pic! How cool!
lefantstafi mowed the grass yesterday too!
pollymhthanks for the welcome. I'm afraid this could become an addiction.

alp1926Exciting!! Congrats, Uncle Andy!
cbonkCongratulations!! BTW - on your kidspeak note below, one of my brothers had imaginary friends named Bug, Bird, and... George Bush. And Bug was an Iraqi that was constantly getting squished by George Bush! He would have been 3-4 yrs old! They sure listen!

Another one... 07-28-08 08:30pm CST
When we got home today, Caden pointed out of the van window toward the sky at the big spider. He said it was a man spider and it was mean and it had 3 legs. But if we break its 3 legs, then it can't crawl.
