You don't close stuff just be clicking the X. To really close it, go up to the top bar and close it there. Confusing at first, but handy once you get used to it.
There's my wealth of wisdom, since I've had mine for all of 2 months.
Apple wants people to switch and to make it easy, so they've got tons of video tutorials to help you learn your way around. Here's a good place to start.
Hey Matt, this is Jared. I was wondering if you still had the lyrics to "Goel" from Ruth? The song you'd crafted from the christmas tune, "Noel"? I was fondly remembering our Hebrew experiences and thought about that.
I had five wisdom teeth pulled this morning. Naturally, I wasn't just dying to talk for most of the day, so I communicated quite a bit through text messages. Here are some conversational highlights from yesterday and today:
- "Man, tomorrow is going to be like pulling teeth, isn't it?" (my dad)
- "No kidding. Wake me when it's over!" (me)
- "Are you dead?" (co-worker, today)
- "Yes, I was actually just talking to some of your ancestors." (me)
- "Oh...were any of them black? That would explain a lot."
- "As of today, I am officially less talionis." (me)
- "Sounds like you just experienced molar eclipse." (Jady)
- "Are you still a little loopy?" (my dad)
- "Of course not. The zebras just left half an hour ago. Thanks."
When I had mine removed, Chad (my ride back to the apartment) and I were sitting in the office waiting for them to give me the okay to leave. They gave me a little dish/pan (much like the one in this picutre) that I think was in case I got sick. Of course, if I had to puke, that little thing wouldn't have helped much at all. Instead, we did some prop comedy with it. The nitrous made it really stinkin' funny.
Ha, ha, although I'm sure it was really no fun. I still have all my wisdom teeth---my dentist told me my mouth was big enough; I'm sure he didn't mean anything else by that ;>)
If you don't already know about it, check out DeWard publishing's new book on the Lord's Supper, Beneath the Cross. It has a lot of really helpful essays (and reflections, mind you) by lots of really helpful people, and it's edited by Jady and Nathan.
Countdown to Pittsburgh move: 22 days.
I can't stress this enough: if you're in Tampa and love cute cats, I am your man. Our only condition is that you be a non-denominational Christian and have at least a Master's degree in your field (wait, that's for something else...never mind).
I'm assuming that last bit is because you have some cats to give away, and not because you're trying to advertise your new business involving taking customers' photographs with you in a cat suit.
do you know if we're allowed to steal people's stuff from the book for LS talks? i feel weird doing that, but also feel weird offering attribution at the lord's table. to be safe, today i stole from my own essay, which is still technically immoral.
In about 2.5 months, Lord willing, Katie and I will be moving to Pittsburgh, PA, along with Kyle Fisher and his soon-to-be wife, Katie Clark. Our primary purpose in making this rather drastic change is to help support a budding work in the East Pittsburgh area, where conservative congregations are sparse. We've been encouraged by the eagerness of the believers in that area, and we're grateful to have been shown an opportunity to shine our lights in a new area. Please mention these Christians in your prayers when you have an opportunity; I'm sure it would be appreciated.
I will also begin working on a Master's degree in Economics at Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio (just over the border). It's a 1.5-hour commute from where we'll be living, but I'll only be attending classes two nights a week, so hopefully that won't seem too overwhelming. The biggest variable in the Pittsburgh equation is our job situation. With my teller experience and Katie's administrative experience, I'm confident that the Lord will provide and we'll find jobs quickly. In the meantime, I'm trying to sniff out jobs online as best I can.
As the brethren here in Brandon have (constantly) reminded us, Pittsburgh does occasionally experience long-sleeve weather. We'll see how long I survive winter in the Northeast after five years of Tampa sunshine (I think Katie has money on two weeks; I'm going to try to hold out for three).
As Katie has already noted on her blog, we'll probably have to leave our "child" behind: our cat Camilla. If you live in the Tampa area and are just beside yourself for a well-trained, well-behaved *cough* companion, please let us know.
In other news, my baby sister just graduated from high school, which makes me feel old. She'll be at FC this fall, meaning my parents will finally have all their kids living in one place again...for a week or two, anyway (sorry, Mom!).
The Temple Terrace area seems barren right now, with so many people that we've known the last few years moving away or moving on to bigger and better things (including us, I guess). As we emerge from the cocoon of our comfortable surroundings, we're hoping that the struggle will develop our wings of independence and allow us to fly through the rainforest of new experiences and across the rivers of change, and that the flutter of our wings will ripple through the winds of the unknown and cause a hurricane of change to decimate the sleepy trailer park of the status quo.
I just read on Wikipedia that cocoons often are dormant through the winter season, so your analogy is flawed. I'll put money on you lasting through the whole winter, since you'll stay in your cocoon. :-) Thanks for the laugh! I love you!
My first thought was: Wow, he's alive! My second thought was: Wow, Pittsburgh!
I've heard about the difficulties of the church in that area - Peni Jean spent part of her growing up time there, or near there. Blessings on y'all's heads for taking on that good work. We'll be praying for the work, and for y'all's abilities to find paying work in the area! :)
Wow. Good luck and God bless with the work there. We have a good friend in the "area". He's in WV, but he's in Pittsburg fairly often for work. Let me know if you'd like his contact information.
When Zo and I moved to CO we didn't have jobs. We applied at a bunch of Temp agencies. The morning after we moved into our apartment Lorenzo got called by the agency to come in for an interview for a temp to hire position. You are considered temporary for 3 months and then they hire you. This is the job that he currently has. I started out doing temp jobs (a 2 days job here, or a 3 day job there) and I got offered a full time position at the second job that I went to. I wasn't even looking for a full time job. This is the job that I currently have. This was a VERY successful way for us to get to where we wanted to be. And worse case senario, at least you are doing temp worj and have SOME income while you look for your full time job.
Did you know, I was born in Pittburgh and spent 9 years on the Eastside? But that's a long story. Anyway, I'm sure I'll be seeing you around up there. God bless you and the Fishers and Eatons and the others to His service.
Thanks SO much for starting my day with such a good laugh... It has been so good to see you both recently. I am confident you will be a blessing to the congregation there as you have been to the folks at Brandon. Love to you both!
What does it mean when one discovers that one's nephew has yet to put one on one's friends list? Hmmmmm..... Is there some underlying message there?????
Wow, that's a huge move! I know the Christians out there will be greatly encouraged by you all. It can get pretty lonely living in areas where there are very few Christians.
that sounds like an awesome experience. and pennsylvania is amazing in the fall. im sure you and Katie will be enormous help to the christians up there. Good luck buddy
